1. Many thanks for putting these patches online.

I was looking for an Octaver and ended up getting my B3 down from the loft and realising how useful it is.

I'm at work playing with the Edit and Save software and can't figure out how to import the patches onto my Macbook. I want to download them but can't seem to drag or import the files. My B3 isn't connected and I'm working with the computer patch set.

The files have downloaded as .xml files.

    Can anyone help?

    Peter

The files should be xml format, but with an extension of *.b3p for an individual patch or *.b3a for an entire patch group.

Other than that, the process is pretty straightforward -

If you've not already connected your B3 to the computer you may need to add it to the displayed devices list - Display menu at the top, then Show Devices, then B3 if it's not already ticked.

Make sure the B3 tab (immediately above the Editor) is highlighted if you have more than one device type showing

Create yourself a new blank patch group - right click on PC in the Library and then click New Patch Group.

Give it a name, and then make sure that patch group is selected.

Right click on one of the empty patches in the big A0-J9 list and click Import.

Things might be slightly different on the Mac version of Edit & Share, but hopefully similar enough that you'll be able to work it out from that....
  2. Looks like the electric blue is discontinued, but not all that old - they're still selling some stuff with similar retro styling... not sure how they'd compare sound wise though

Stop quoting posts I made two years ago! I don't even have a Jazz Bass now!

Ah well spotted - I hadn't noticed it was an old thread that had been bumped

You say that, but my Hayman 4040 (though sounding lovely and with a very playable neck) is a lot more uncomfortable to play than my contoured Jazz Bass. Could have something to do with the old beer gut... but having said that, the lack of a forearm contour is the worst thing about it.
I find the same with my EBMM SUBs and Stingray... the slabby SUBs are fine, but the contoured Stingray is noticeably more comfortable to wear on a strap. The SUB reclaims some points when seated - but I think that's probably more due to extra grip on the leg from the textured matte paint than anything shape related...

  5. I don't know about the Philips one, but I got a Sonos Play:1 for similar money (£150ish) and get plenty of use out of it.

DAB signal is patchy at ours so station choice is very limited. With the Sonos I can have my alarm clock set to play ABC Disco/Funk :sun_bespectacled:

All my music media library is stored on a network attached hard drive so I can listen to whatever I like wherever, without having to leave the PC on.

Surprisingly decent sound & volume for such a dinky box.

It's all controlled from PC/phone/tablet so it doesn't need to be placed anywhere particularly easy to get to - which given how cluttered my place is, is a big benefit!

  6. What about getting a stingray shaped body made up to take the Bongo neck and electrics?

Should be relatively inexpensive as you've already got the expensive and/or time consuming bits already - and then if it doesn't work out you could put it back to standard to sell?

A Gig-Rig Timelord adapter will do the trick I think. This means you'll be able to power the Whammy from whatever power supply you eventually choose (assuming it provides enough MA). Even if you're daisy chaining your pedal power, the TimeLord will then isolate what's being sent to the Whammy (which often helps with digital pedals). Perfec'

I think that will only work with the newer Whammy pedals which take DC power.... the older ones needed AC

If you're on mobile you can bookmark the following link. Voila! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=viewNewContent&search_app=forums&setAsMobile=1
On mine, I click on the 4 white squares icon in the top right, which brings up a menu including a "New content" button...

  9. Just stumbled across this audio interview from 2009 - http://www.maximumfun.org/blog/2007/06/podcast-tsoya-betty-davis.html

I guess it's been a few years since the 70s, but it's quite a surprising contrast from her persona on her records!

yes, but I'm talking about general:

    - oh, I'm not loud enough, I'll get a more powerful amp.

we hear that a lot. And adding more of the same speakers has a much larger effect than most realise. That was the point.

Those 4 S112 speakers are *tiny*, look at them. Four of them don't take more room than 2x BB2.

Look, I've done the Barefaced Compact + BB2 already. It certainly works and it is not big or heavy. But these are much more easy to carry and store, for me (YMMV). More importantly, I actually prefer their sound too.

Anyway, my point was not finding out which speakers are most efficient... just that you get more volume by adding another of your existing speakers than by getting an amp with twice the power (at best).
Fair shout - what works for me is 2 cabs I can carry in one load with bass + amp in the gig bag on my back, but to each their own and all that :)

  11.
This. It's a major pain to carry multiple cabs around just so you can be too loud. ;) I'd rather invest in a portable combo or one-cab solution that is going to be loud enough and have enough headroom for any situation... though I can't imagine why anyone would need more than one BB2! Apart from the look of the thing, of course...
Partly for height - the place we normally play at has a fairly cramped stage and I usually end up stood very close to my amp. Partly so I could use them as a stereo pair of PA cabs if need be (I've top hats for pole mounts in mine)

But mostly - yeah, it's so I've got the right ratio of screen to speakers for my telly. :D

    Just add more speakers!

    End of story. :)
Or, presumably, just use speakers with more displacement?

TKS quote 237cc compared to 550cc for a Barefaced 12XN550 - so assuming amp power isn't the limiting factor, you could get more volume out of 2 barefaced 12s than 4 TKS 12s.

I guess the 4x TKS 12 would have a big advantage in terms of sensitivity though, so could be better suited if a bigger amp wasn't an option.

That said - in the unlikely event I ever needed more volume out of my rig (GK MB500 + 2x Big Baby 2) I'd much prefer to upgrade the amp to an MB800 than to have to carry 4 cabs around instead!

  13. This one?

They mention using a 6" rule graduated in 64ths... Don't think I've ever seen imperial feeler gauges in anything other than thousandths though

dood is right - it is the same processor, with more careful attention to processor resource allocation. I suspect that's part of why Edit & Share support was dropped - to eliminate another overhead. In spite of that, some - in fact, most - of the E & S stuff is still buried in the firmware for the MS-60B and B1on. I've used this to develop the controller described in another thread - http://basschat.co.u...on-usb-control/ . I'll also be releasing a patch sharing/backup program - Really Soon Now - which will talk to the newer pedals.
Wow - that's some impressive work there!

  15.
That's true. As the bass signal is way more dynamic, Zoom felt that they wouldn't want the processor to ever want to run out of steam trying to run two more effects at once, and the looper, and the drum machine.
The B1Xon can use 5 effects simultaneously and also has a looper and drum machine... I think it had an upgraded processor over the B3. you'd think they could do a B3.1 or even a B3.1X with the processor from the B1Xon .

I never understood why they didn't enable Edit'n'Share on the MS60B or the B1Xon.... it would have been really useful on the smaller format units.
