1. I had one for a while, but didn't use it enough to justify keeping it. Sounds good with a bass though - perfect for that Julee Cruze/Twin Peaks sound (I'm showing my age now...) No loss of low end that I could hear anyway.

  2. Great day out - meeting new people and putting faces to names.

I'll post a few more when I've got them fit to look at!

Highlights of the day for me were: Ari's MTD 5 string, Nik's Fender Roscoe Beck (only spotted as he was putting it away - Sorry Nik!), Luke's Epi 3x10 (I so have to stay away from things like this).

Thanks to Ped and the guys for organising the Bash, and to everyone who came and made it a great day out.

  3. Car batteries don't last long in this sort of application, as they're designed for high current drain and long charge cycles. What you need are deep cycle batteries, as used in wheelchairs, golf buggies etc. They're designed to be run right down over a period of time, then recharged. A good deep cycle battery will discharge/recharge over 1000 times if cared for properly, whereas the best car batteries only survive a couple of hundred cycles when used like this.

  4. I've just bought myself a new amp (thanks Alan!) so I'm selling my Peavey Firebass Head.

This is one of the original white face models from when they were made in the USA.
The carpet's a bit scruffy in places and the corner protectors are a bit bashed up, but that's what they're for, right?

700 Watts @ 2 Ohms (and yes, it's quite happy to run down that low!), 475 Watts @ 4 Ohms, 275 Watts @ 8 Ohms. 3 band EQ with swept mid, plus Contour control. Built in crossover for biamping (external amp/powered cab needed).

I've fitted a Speakon socket to this amp, as originally it only had a pair of jacks, and I'll chuck in a 1m Speakon Cable to go with it.

This will pretty much be collection only as this amp is HEAVY! If anyone's interested, I can bring it along to the BC Bash in Northampton on the 30th.

I'm after £175 or your best offer.

  5.
I'm interested in one or more of these. Have you tried them?
Blimey, this might turn into a full time job ! :)

I've never dealt with CADAudio before, but they're quite well known in HiFi/HT circles. I don't reckon there will be any problems with their gear.

PM me if you're interested, and we can discuss specs and prices.

  6. How about one of these wrapped up in a metal box. Maybe something like this one in black anodised finish.

Add a fused mains inlet and a speakon and you're there. Should be do-able for around £300. 500Watts in a 9x5x2 inch box with an all-up weight of not much more than 2 pounds.

  7.
"The amplifier automatically senses and adjusts itself to local voltage.”

    nice :)
It's a rare switch-mode supply that doesn't these days - they're making a feature of something I'd expect to be there

  8.
Err, to be honest, the reason I sold it was because I actually wanted an EBS Bass Chorus.

I was hungover when I bought the Octabass, and when it came through, I realised it wasn't what I needed! Stupid as it might sound, I didn't realise until then.

So, I had the pedal and didn't need it (I've got a Boss octave) or want it, so I had to get rid of it!

    Madness I tells ya!
LMFAO! :) That'll learn ya!

  9.
As a complete electronics moron (no false modesty intended - I mean what I say), I thought the attraction of gold-plated connectors was that they never tarnish, so you always get a perfect connection?
The point is that in an installation, where plugs are connected once and then left alone for years, gold plating makes sense. In an application where plugs are in and out all the time, like on a bass or amp, then the action of plugging and unplugging can help keep the connectors tarnish-free.

Edit: Doh! Beaten to the punch!

  10. Behringer MX802 mixer. 4 mono mic /line channels, 2 stereo channels, 2 auxes. This is boxed and in excellent condition (although the box is looking a bit scruffy now)
I'm looking for offers around £30, not including postage.

Alesis Nanoverb. 1/3 rack size reverb unit. 16 effects, adjust control, footswitchable, true stereo in/out. Boxed and in excellent condition, £40 will see it delivered to your door.

  11. OK, I have for sale:

Peavey Microbass practice amp. You all know these, 20 Watts, 8" speaker. This is the older model with the grille cloth.
Near perfect condition, sounds great. £40 ono, plus postage/collection.

Boss CE-20 Chorus Ensemble. This is a great pedal, 6 chorus modes, 4 user memory positions, pad control to run on instrument or line level. Way more chorus than I need, this is boxed and virtually brand new, with only a few hours use.
    £90 ono including delivery.

  12. I recently bought one off dub_junkie on here. Not had a chance to really use it in anger yet.

It sounds pretty crap if you throw the bass switch, it cuts a lot of bottom. A bit of a one trick pony, but it's cool if you're into that funky autowah kind of sound. More extreme settings can sound a bit 'quacky'. It'd probably do a reasonable Bootsy imitation with a bit of work, but as I said I've not really pushed it yet.

    Just my £0.02 - YMMV

  13. Dropped into my local pound shop to pick up some batteries this afternoon, and as I walked past the DVDs I spotted a right bargain. George Clinton Parliament/Funkadelic 'Mothership Connection'. Not my usual cuppa tea, but I do like to get a bit funky once in a while, and for a quid I'm not complaining.

I've watched a couple of tracks, and I can tell you that the camera work is a bit iffy, but the music is KICKING! 15 songs, 83 minutes runtime, loads of genuine 70's funk lunacy. Well worth looking out for if you have a pound shop near you.
