They were a similar sort of thing to Cock sparrer/ Cockney Rejects? One of my favourite bass playing bands, as you can really hear the bass on those great early recods, like Screwed up / Last years youth. Charlie Casey is the excellant bassist. Menace77 website Here is a youtube link to Last years youth, for those who dont know the band.
I know Menace.. My band Argy Bargy have gigged with them quite a few times..

8. Ibanez PD7 Phat-Hed Bass Overdrive - 2 And I thought I was the only one using this fine '£20 from cash converters' pedal??? Maybe I was lucky to find this beauty dumped in a later day pawn shop!!
9. I play along to any old crap that's on the TV.. That way I can leer at the goggle box & practice!!
10. JUST to confuse myself further, I'm back to what I was before I lost my memory and password.. What a palaver...
11. Well.. It's still on my P-bass and I'm still enjoying the hell out of it.. It was great in the studio last weekend and impressed the guy running the place and producing our album.. As for do they sound like an active pickup? I don't like the sound of active pickups personally and chose not to go that route, but get passive pickups that where better than the stock pickups and not the generic seymour duncan's that everyone puts on their Precision.. The tone is brighter, louder and clearer than the stock pickups providing me with a mud-free sound.. In fact I have to use my trusty Marshall Guvnor 2 pedal to give me some dirt live and in the studio.. If you play Punk/Hardcore/Rock I'd recommend this pickup.. With the blades I'm always getting asked about them and other Bass players ask about my sound and admire my modifications to the old MIM Precision.. I'm still very happy with a great purchase!! Oh.. Just checked and they're still selling them here!! 12. Just managed to find me way back here, remember my password and login again!! Just recorded my first album with Argy Bargy and got the Bass sound I wanted by using 4 bass sounds blended into one.. Hope I don't get lost in the final mix now!!
13. 542 today... Incredible.. Must be my vast Army of internet stalkers..
14.
I remember the previous thread, just can't think who started the topic. IIRC I think Maplins didn't have it. Is it a DPDT switch? - try here Farnell Hamster
Thankyou Mr. Hamster... I however have a non-technical brain and the Farnell website proved way too complicated for my limited intelligence.. I have so far drawn a blank at Maplins..
15. Bugger!! was hoping some kindly soul had put a reply in.. Maplins it is!!
16. I'm still enjoying their roundwounds...
17.
The 'Larger' room is fantastic to play in also. I believe its a Midas Verona desk up there, and the PA sounds pretty great. Full monitor rig, 8 stage wedges and sidefills (if i remember correctly).
Just wondered how many it holds? The downstairs room must hold about 2-300 and was pretty packed saturday..
18. Just wanna say that the pick-up kicked ass live.. Funnily enough it was hard to get used to such a clear sound to start with, so I had to dial in some more gain on the amp. Only the combo and no extension cab, but everyone was impressed by the sound and our guitarist seemed pleased!! I will be trying to add a bit more grit with the old Marshall Guv'nor II pedal in future I think.. Having tried it out at home, it seemed to be very compatable which was not the case with the stock pick-up I replaced.. Overall a 9/10 for this pickup from me so far..
19. We had this on the previous forum.. I was warned about the switch on these being a bit 'dodgy'.. Well, it is!! I need a replacement.. Just wondered where the guy that put a replacement in got it from.. I'll have a look on Maplins website to start, but would appreciate a bit of info from someone who's done this already.. (Again!!) Cheers, BB
20. For all you Punk players out there... Sheffield Corporation. Our mate Sheffield Dave was the Promoter for this one and did a great job. The 'in-house' PA people were spot on, friendly and did us proud. I gather we played in the downstairs room and a larger room upstairs was where 'bigger' bands played. Still the venue was happy to welcome our crowd of Punks, Skinheads and general hooligans, who came along and had fun. I must point out however that later on after an altercation between a friend of ours and an odd member of staff, 3 of the 'security' did a dance on his ribs but stopped sharpish when confronted.. Might be one to watch in future.. Played with 2 excellent bands.. FC Dog UK and Scum..
21. Really, he should have applied another coat in the autumn.. The frost has got at it terrible and I'm sure the sun will do further damage.
22.
Still, why not review the promoters and bookers you've worked with so that any forum members on your scene will be able to benefit from your experience.
You know, after I posted it I thought I should do that.. If there are any Punk bands bass players on here, I will endeavour to be of assistance!! I will draw up a list of promoters who are great to work with!!
23. Would love to help... But being in a seperate 'scene' from most of you on here, the promoters and bookers are different and for the most part venues are hired by them.. we never really get asked to play 'normal' venues by run of the mill promoters and bookers as they seem to have a problem with all the Punks, Skinheads and assorted Hooligans that turn up to watch us.. Funnily enough theres no real trouble and a crowd that usually drinks the bar dry and has a great time which is more than I can say for a 'general' crowd.. Still, Viva La difference!!
24. Bumpity bump bump.. Anyone going from here? Gonna be a good crowd coming from all over the north!!
