2.
Having owned both, I am astonished by that remark.... are you sure your Wals have been real ones? Also, mine is not and never has been a 'neck diver' and I am again intrigued at the experiences being discussed. Maybe mine is the forgery I also don't find it excessively heavy - but then again, it has been around my neck for 23 years so I guess I am used to it now.
A Wal round your neck for 23 years? Maybe that explains your facial expression on your profile. Mind you it's hard to tell but you look like a fairly well built bloke compared to me!
 3.
That is of course, unless you like Wals and then it's a very practical design for a gigging bass.. Having said that, I love the Jazz bass design and have two five string models which I gig with and they're great.
Yes but liking a bass isn't reason enough to damage my shoulder and neck. Each to his own but playing any bass to the detriment of your physique is just foolish. Playing comfort is every bit as important to me as tone, hardware, action etc. But then again if you're not a ten stone weakling like me it shouldn't be a problem. As for the issue of prices I think it's a mystery why some basses or any objects for that matter become more desirable and expensive than others. I recently bought a 1980 Aria S.B 1000 for £400 and it is every bit the equal of a Wal in quality and without doubt the best quality instrument I have owned yet they just don't command the kind of prices of many other makes. The Aria is even heavier than the Wal by the way so that's gone too
 4. I had a Wal for seven years and sold it as it was very heavy and a bad neck diver. I think I only used it for so long because I had always wanted one from first playing bass and Mick Karn was and is my favourite bassist. I tried lots of basses over a twenty plus years pro' career and steadfastly avoided such "common" basses as Fenders. Of course now I only own Fender Jazz basses and agree they sound great. I think the Wal was primarily designed as a studio bass and to this end versatility was all important. I found my Wal to be over complicated for live work. The sound wasn't to my taste and as for construction I remember the neck pocket wasn't very tight and it was the only bass I have owned that had a dead spot. Also I found the neck to be very wide and chunky in profile, altogether a very impractical design for a gigging bass. Leo Fender was a design genius who got it right with the Jazz and Precision designs and these designs remain to this day as the basic template of all other bass designs.
 5.
Looks good to me - though not for a Stingray. It's an old Musicman Sabre. Edit: Mind you, I'm wondering how genuine the sale is - the picture looks as if it's in a guitar shop and has been lifted from the web.
I contacted the seller of this bass and he told me he is selling an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray!!! I pointed out that the photo' he has up is a pre Ernie Sabre but no response. He hasn't amended the ad'. As to whether it is dodgy or not I couldn't say but he was ok about me coming to take a look at it?
 6. Looking to get a fret dress on my G and L L2000. Can anyone recommend a luthier in the West Yorkshire area as I have had some hit and miss results in the past with luthiers?
 7.
is this the white one one that sold on ebay a few weeks back?
Sorry I'm a bit of a ludite and don't have the technology to post pic's I'm afraid! Yes I bought this recently on e bay for £500. I got it on the "Second Chance" option on the auction. I have wanted a G and L since trying one in the early eighties but have just not come across any U.S.A ones. Try finding one on the net in the U.K , I couldn't! I have decided that nothing beats a Fender Jazz so will be making that my main bass so I am just looking to get my money back on the G and L. The bass itself is trouble free as stated in the ad' but it just doesn't suit me as much as my Jazz bass, each to his own I suppose. No problem to come and put the bass through its paces

 9.
I'd agree that a dead straight neck is ok, however if the frets aren't completely level then you'll end up getting fret buzz. What concerns me is the lack of an effective truss rod. If the neck is dead straight, that would suggest its resisting the string tension quite effectively. So the question in my mind is whether the truss rod has been over-tightened? The neck shim is a good idea too, the neck angle could be adjusted to bring the strings closer to the neck at the heel end. I personally love the microtilt feature on my stingray but once set its no problem to forget.
I recently purchased a G and L 2000 with the neck tilt feature but have never used one before. Can anyone explain how it works. What effect do certain adjustments have. I have no problem with adjusting truss rods and understand how certain adjustments affect the action but not sure how the neck tilt works in the truss, bridge height equation.

 11. SOLD 1981 Wal Custom. Mahogany and Schedua. Has the same shape headstock as the Pro' if anyone knows what that looks like. They changed the headstock shape later and moved the machine heads. Pretty well worn especially on the body but everything works fine. Comes with original (grey) Wal case. £700. No problem to come and have a play.
 12. Trace Elliot BLX 80. Vinyl covered. About 12 years old. Vinyl is quite scuffed. Everything works trouble free, electrics, pots scratch free etc no issues other than cosmetic. £100. pickup only from Leeds.
 13. Pair of Schaller straplocks in black. £5.00 plus postage. Perfect working order, only used for two years. Plese be aware these are only the straplocks NOT the buttons that attach to the instrument.
 14. SOLD. SOLD Ampeg B100R Made in U.S.A. Bought new in November 1998. Excellent condition apart from some stitching on handle coming apart. I originally bought this as a rig just for doing theatre/pit gigs etc as I had a 400w 4 by 10 Marshall head and cab but ended up selling the Marshall as the Ampeg was more than adequate even for the loudest bands I have played with including a VERY loud Bowie tribute band I occasionally dep'd for! This rig sounds much louder than 100w as a visit to Harmony Central will confirm. £300 PICKUP ONLY. I am in Leeds. Call 07833 174174.SOLD. SOLD
 15. Boss OC 2 bought new in 1991. Used it on one gig and a handful of times at home so mint condition with original box. Never r eally found a practical use for it on the gigs I do but was always a fan of Pino so that's why I bought it at the time I think! Will take £35. SOLD!
 16. Yes I contacted him but it had gone. Thanks for the info' though.

 23.
31/1/08 Had this up for offers in November, I think the highest was about 79 pence... Looking for more in the region of £500, any interest give a shout in the next week or so. I imported this direct from Ishibashi some time ago for an ex work colleague (together with a couple of precision's for myself). He wanted me to fit it with oval tuners and a John East preamp, so I bought a set of Hipshot Ovals and a used JE Retro. At the end of the day I never got payment for this, so was left with the bass. I'm not really a Fender Jazz fan, but it's such a looker (there's great 'stripey' figuring on the maple neck) that I kept hold of it. But it's an expensive ornament so it's time to let it go. It's completely unmarked. Weight is 9lb 3oz. It's still in the original shipping box (and gigbag). I'm open to any and all offers on the bass. If anyone is interested them I'm hoping they will also buy the oval tuners. I'd like to get back what I paid for the Hipshot oval key HB2's - £75 I'd like to get back what I paid for the JE Retro - which I think was - £115 If any one wants to buy the bass with any or both of the above I will fit them for you (I'd have to try the JE in any case to check that it works). I'll put on the tuners tonight and upload a picture.
