1. Another recommendation for wizard pickups here. I got a P/J set for my Aerodyne a few weeks ago and I'm well pleased. Andy suggested the standard 'Thumper' for the P pickup and an overwound pickup for the J. To quote ShergoldSnickers, my bass now only uses woody words. And the Thumper does exactly what it says.

  2. I'd rather be playing than not. I've just started gigging in a pub covers band as a side project and we have decided to do the 1st gig for 1/2 price offer.
It's working so far, we've played 2 gigs at 1/2 price and got 3 full price bookings from them.

  3.
so how did u get this over from Japan, did you get in touch with a shop over there, or get in touch with Fender over there, or is there a shop over here that deals with importing from over there???

would be interested to know as some Jap basses look the bees n ees!!

I actually bought it on Ebay. Theres an American seller on there called thomasldh who seems to specialise in Aerodynes. The bass came direct from Ishibashi in Japan, for more details about them see the sticky about importing guitars in the bass guitars section of this site. Another place worth looking at is www.guitaremporium.co.uk

Still experimenting but so far I'm liking it. I was looking for a precision sound but I don't get on with the necks on P basses so I went for this, having the neck pickup almost full on on its own gives me the thump I'm after and then gradually rolling on the bridge pickup gets it back to sounding like a Jazz but with a fuller bottom end.

  5. Just got this on Friday, had to wait 6 weeks for it to arrive from Japan......

....and it was well worth the wait. i gigged with it last night and it plays pretty much like my MIA Jazz but with alot more thump, which is what I was looking for.

Here she is with her American cousin

  6.
I buy my strings and change them every year, whether they need it or not.
+1 to that. Takes about a month for new strings to feel properly broken in to me

  7. Me and my drummer are both big Soul fans so we started a Soul band together to play the music we like to listen to.
In the past I've played music that I wouldn't normally listen to and still thoroughly enjoyed it, the fact that I'm playing is the important thing for me, playing music I really like is a bonus.

    I choose cake over death

  8. The Temptations Greatest Hits
    Genre:Motown
    Bassists:James Jamerson, Bob Babbitt

Some great Jamerson basslines to play along with, Ain't Too Proud To Beg is possibly my favourite bassline ever, Papa Was A Rolling Stone has one of the most minimal basslines ever but also one of the funkiest

  9. For weddings and functions my 9 piece bands starts negotiations at £1000, less if it's local or for friends. We charge more if the gig is a distance away or we have to be there particularly early or leave particularly late. We always specify that we need to be fed. Next month we are doing a function where we have to be set up, soundchecked and out of the way by 8pm, first set is 10-11pm, second set is 1-2am. Including travel thats's going to be a 12 hour day and we are charging accordingly

  10.
Yeah, I have been noticing how now a days bassist play a lot of slap. I dont really like slap(I dont like playing it.) Are there any people dominating the scene with there fingers. My favorite thing about a player is when they can groove. Are there any players that play with there fingers and can groove? Im having a hard time explaining this. I know people play with there fingers but I mean, Is there a bassist that fingers like Victor slaps?
I had the same problem when I started learning back in the 80s. Slap was really fashionable then and I just couldn't do it no matter how hard I tried (still can't). I decided fingerstyle was going to be my style and I wasn't going to feel bad about it.
Not being able to slap has never been a problem for me.

+1 on CKs and The Pauls lists of bassists, all as funky as they come.

  11.
most tabs are one persons interpretation of a song, more often than not nothing like the original.
Thats what I've found, which is why I've stopped using internet tab sites.
