I'm sure the OP said smallest! 'course, the smallest may not be the loudest. So I read that as a maximum of a 10" speaker or something two 5" aka PJB. There's scope in there for someone, but I'm no expert.
EA Micro head into a Wizzy 10 cab - a 550 watt rig weighing just 19lbs for the two
EA even make a backpack to put them both in!

How much?

I tried a 6 speaker PJB combo thing. It was pretty damn loud!
And also Very very very expensive, way outa my leaugue! -
Can't you do a flat-pack light weight cab? Like a neo 12" or 15" mounted to a "baffle" (or whatever the front peice is) then 4 peices of light wood (or plastic?) that all clip together. Then it'd fit in a ruck sack.
Ive already tried to think that one out, but it fell down for me because the clips that would be strong enough to make it airtight and robust enough would also prevent it from flat packing. I dont know if there would be any saving of space.
Err, a 15 inch speaker in a rucksac? not good for aerodynamics on a bike eh! -
Welcome!
Cheers

Something also came to mind. I had a look inside my Line 6, and it made me think. The amp itself, is quite small, and would more than likely fit into a re-engineered box. Or event just a small wooden 'shoe' as the amp comes out with the face plate intact, so you would still have all buttons and printed plate in place.
The box, then, since is blanked off inside could be made smaller? I'm not sure about this, but I'm sure Alex from Bare Faced might be able to help you. If it did work, you should get two very small component parts with a goodly amount of oomph! PLus if the amp is in a back pack then it would be less likely to get weather damage, whereas the box, if needed could be replaced at a much smaller cost.
This is strictly theoretical as I have no idea about building cabs. But if the box is the same size, then why not.....no?
I know im going to start a debate about cab design now!
what about Gk like this?
link
That's the GK I was thinking of. My bass tutor uses one. Its a pretty nice sound. I haven't heard it at full chat yet though!
Line 6 moves an amazing amount of air for it's size. -
GK do a small 100-150 watt combo bass thing. other wise, the line 6 lowdown 110 is ideal. It's not too heavy and would be fine on a sports rack. I've just got one! Line 6 puts out about 75W. GK is slightly bigger in size tho
Beleive it or not harley davidson did a large rifle carryier that can be fitted to a motorbike. There was a place in North London that you could get one from. I'm just thinking that a hard case with something a like a pannier mount might be best for a small travelling headless bass. -
why not a Steinberger? Synapse
Thats sort of nearly where i was thinking off. but probably a bit more low tech.
cheers for the heads up.
i was thinkin about building something like this out of a half-finished GCSE D&T project...
mosly for the purposes of slinging it on my back and hopping on the motorbike. the more i think about it, the more I think I may aswell just buy one of those fancy things without an actual body. hmmm.
how is the sound?
This was my plan. get a small enough and good enough sound to be able to put it all on a bike. Small hard case for small bass, small but loudish amp etc. I was definitely thinking about a headless type thing for strength etc. -
Blimey, I must have beensearching incorrectly. loads of stuff to now look at.
Am liking the prosebass stuff tho.!
Of course, a lot of this is price dependant!
cheers everyone

Does anyone know if a simple travel/practice bass is currently available. Im thinking of something like one of those stick guitar type things if that make sense.
Maybe a short scale, single pick up (?), compact sized bass etc
Cheers

Bob has extremely kindly let me have the Line 6 Lowdown 110 which he listed in the recycling section. he has been very upfront about the problems with the unit, but Im still very pleased.
cheers
Bob and thanks very much.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Ha! I have very much been looking into doing the course!
-
Ok, thanks very much for that. Is this the only book on the subject?

Hi
Many thanks for that. Does if cover basses as well as guitars? It wasnt very clear in the write up if it does both.
cheers

A little advice needed :)
in Theory and Technique
thanks. only concern is bass teachers are like anything else they cost alot to have the lesson
Agreed, i have a lesson once a fortnight. It would help even to have one a month. Its getting another perspectice that counts as I find this really helpfull. From knowing absolutely nothing a year ago about technique and now my beginnings in improv, I found lessons really helpfull.
I started from about a year of teaching myself and pretty much nothing else.
