The sticker dot inlays can be removed simply and safely with Goo Gone. I detailed that in my for sale posting. 👍 if you wanted to install a very reasonably priced onboard (or use their pedal preamp) , https://lusithanddevices.com/ in the UK makes incredible preamps starting 75 pounds sterling which can take you into Wal bass sonic flexibility. 👍

Major Brain fart! I looked closely at that one performance (see my last pic with me onstage) back in and around 2015 and took notice that my Barcus did NOT have the dark fret markers on the neck. I ordered the bass sans fret markers and later had my friend (who works on guitars) add those fret dots for me since he if good at lining them up appropriately. I have had so many basses over the years, but this Barcus was kept in my closet and only rarely played it at home. I had 12 string, 8 string, 5 string basses, and sold them all eventually and just stayed with a few 4 string basses. Sorry for the confusion on those fret dots. I completely forgot my bass originally came without fretboard markers. I will update my for sale post wording. Thx much for taking note off that and bringing it up, brother. 👍

I ran my fingernail gently on my fretboard and the fretboard dots feel ever so slightly raised and not actual inlays routed into the fretboard. I rarely played this 5 string. I am assuming he added the dots after finishing my bass with a slight finish coat over them to keep them from coming off or wearing down. I am still awaiting Barcus’ reply on Facebook. I think the bass actually looked better without those dots as seen in his pics. If they are surface mounted fret dots, then they can be carefully removed if the new owner chooses to do so. Stay tuned for Barcus’ reply……..

Hi all, I had previous purchased 2 Wal Basses (Mk I & Mk II) on Basschat. My two reference members are WalbassUK (Paul) purchased his brilliant MK II, and Anthony Lewis (Tony) buying his passive MK I. I am selling my custom made Barcus single cut, 5 string (passive) with custom made Wal inspired humbuckers . Gregory Barcus is the brilliant Luthier from Minnesota, USA that handmade this custom beauty in 2013. He uses my bass as his profile pic on Facebook (scroll down to find pics of my bass before and after completion). https://www.facebook.com/BarcusBasses/photos ***Take note that my bass was made without fretboard dot markers . The dark fret markers are high quality dot stickers which my guitar tech applied for me some years ago. They can be carefully removed with Goo Gone if desired. The fretboard is lacquered so don’t worry about removing the dots. I had Greg install laser light activated ,glow in the dark top fingerboard markers. Use a small laser flashlight or small regular flashlight and aim it at the top dot markers to charge them so you can see your top fingerboard position on a dark or dimly lighted stage. Greg Barcus’ craftsmanship is out of this world! I am parting with this beauty since I am playing my 4 strings all the time, and the Barcus stays safely in its original, well padded gig bag. The woods used on this bass are gorgeous and give tons of resonance. It has a reinforced , dual truss rod with one Musicman style adjustment “wheel“(see pic below), not neck heavy at all and balances superbly. and I never seem to have to adjust the neck, even during climate changes. Built like a tank, but without a hefty weight. All USA made components, except for the high quality, Gotoh tuners, made in Japan. Super clean condition since I rarely played or required a 5 string. The sweet price includes FREE shipping across the pond which I am sure you know how PRICEY shipping is, especially for a bass from the USA to the UK. It will be fully insured and very well packed. The FREE shipping is only honored by paying the original asking price, otherwise the buyer would pay the ship cost. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for this info, ikay. Neither link stated the d.c. resistance (output) of Wal pups though. Cheers!

Hello Wal heads, Can anyone here tell me what the D.C. resistance (output) is on a Wal pickup? Is the output any different between the 4 and 5 string Wal pickup? Your help is much appreciated, mates! Cheers!

I thank you much, Dingus, for trying your best to help me with the Wal pots issue. I will try and somehow find Roger Giffin thur searching the internet, and if you have any leads how to possibly find him, please do send that my way as well, mate. You're a gentleman, and fellow Wal appreciator. Cheers!

Thru my experience with contacting Paul Herman via email, the only time I have ever gotten a reply from him was a few yrs back when I considered ordering a new Wal bass. Otherwise, he has not replied to emails, and yes, I know he's a one man operation, and is very busy. Perhaps he should employ a part time person to handle a good deal of his emails to lesson the load on himself. He should also consider taking a younger luthier under his wing to train and help him /Wal further the business, as did Pete with Paul back in the '90s. I honour Paul for taking on the task of furthering the great legacy of Ian Waller & Pete Stevens of Wal basses. Paul is Wal's saviour! I thank you lads for you kind input! Still searching though......

Hi Wal heads, Can anyone tell me what pot "K" value Wal uses for their passive basses? Fender uses 250K, and Gibson uses 500K. I have a '92 Wal MK I Custom that is passive, and when I looked at the pots, no "K" value was shown. I did see "UK" on the pots which tells me they were made in the UK. I need to find 4 UK made pots (2 regular, and two push/pull pots) that have the appropriate "K" value for a Wal passive pups. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated! Cheers!

Thanks, Discreet, Bass Tractor, and the luvly British "Bird" bassist, Ellie! Good to see a bass lass here! Here's my Wal MK I Custom passive 4 that Pete Stevens made in '92. I am the 3rd owner, and procured it from the 2nd owner right here on basschat! Thanks to a new good mate, (Tony), I now have a dream Wal that ROCKS! http://www.flickr.com/photos/55351180@N08/8504301600/in/photostream/

Hi lads, can any of your Wal owners tell me what size allen tool I'd need to buy for my new/used Wal Mk I bass? I think it must be in metric size since all my US allen tools do not fit the truss rod on my Wal. The neck is bowed, and the action is high, and I MUST have s straight neck with very low action and soon. I do appreciate your help with this, lads! Cheers!

Hey lads, Well, thanks for that welcome vid you both made. Nice touch. By "birds", I meant lassies, women, girls, ...the smooth kind sans the feathers. Cheers!

Thank all your lads from my side of the pond and from across the pond for your kind welcome/greetings to this newbie basschat lad! I honour you all, and wish we all could meet in some cool, old concert hall, and plug in our basses for a night a bass mania! Well, perhaps that may sound a wee far fetched, but we can dream, can't we?! I have been wanting so very much to return to the UK to travel across the country a make new friends, and truth be told, my ultimate dream is to live between my two fave cities.......New York (were I live), and London! I am a bit of an anglophile, and luv British ales, famous British rock bands, British wit & humour, Wal basses (of course), luvly British birds, ....and so much more! And of course, I LUV New York! Thanks again for your warm welcome, lads! All the very best to all of YOU!

No, I am not on commission with Barcus Basses. Just enthusiastic about them is all, mate. Just sharing, and not paid to advertise either. I am just as enthusiastic about Wal basses, and have been for a long time now. I luv basses in general though. I did not mean to come across as some of you insinuated. I am awaiting the arrival of a most desired bass,......a '92 Wal MK I Custom and it's a rare passive model, with a custom ordered , slightly thinner body, and weighs only 8 lbs 12 ounces which is very light for a Wal. I am excited to finally get her in my hands soon! I would enjoy seeing your "babies" & hearing about them, gents (and ladies, if any are here in basschat). Sorry for how I seemed to have come across on my first post, lads. Wishing you all the very best here on basschat! Cheers!

Ok lads! I really have been enjoying your exchanges here on basschat.uk very much! Luv the bass pics and info you lads all share with one another! As much as I dig talkbass.com, methinks basschat.uk, and all here. has taken my no. 1 spot for bass chat ups forums! I'd luv seeing more of your bass gear, and info about it all. Here is a collage pic of a brilliant bass from a brilliant & a yet undiscovered luthier in the USA. It is my personal signature model that Greg Barcus and I collaborated together on designing. It's my "Robes London Signature Barcus SC 5 bass". I own and have owned, and played various high end, custom basses (Alembic, Wal, Warwick, Fodera, Fender Custom Shop, Musicman, etc), and I must say that Greg Barcus has the potential to rival those iconic bass makers, and he's already on that road to bass making greatness as we speak, and I am spreading the word for my new luthier (Barcus) whom I believe will one day be heralded along with the above mentioned bass making giants! I also LUV Wal basses, and both Wal & Barcus basses are my two fave bass makers to date! I do luv my other basses as well though. Greg Barcus is SO easy, and enjoyable to deal with when working with him to make your custom dream bass a reality! He aims to please, and guarantees his work to your complete satisfaction or your money back! I have not asked for my money back from Barcus. I just want MORE Barcus basses in my stable! His prices are SO very reasonable here in the USA, and even MORE so for you bassists in the UK and Europe! He'll build ANY design you so desire, and come up with! I have an Alembic, Series I, Fodera Monarch (I am selling my Fodera Monarch, a now discontinued Standard model ! ), Ric '64 reissue 4001, Fender '60 P-bass, Fender Geddy Lee Jazz, Waterstone TP-12, Hofner '61 reissue Cavern bass, and of course, my luvly Barcus SC5 bass. A '92 Wal Mk I will be in route to me from the UK shortly. So lads, and lassies, SHOW me your basses, and let's chat basses, for I LUV basschat! All the very best to all here on basschat.uk ! You all rock! Cheers to all !
There is a bit of history of ebay scams with high end instruments, Wal's being favoured in bass world. It may seem odd but if this does ever go, I want it to go to a good home where it would be appreciated. Paul B
Hi Paul, Is your Mk II still available, mate? I once had 'ol Pete "The Fish" build me a sweet Mk II 5 string which was completed in 2002. Pete, bless his heart, and soul, came thru for me and kept the bass under 9 lbs,....8.5 lb Mk II 5 string!!! Brilliant man, and will be sorely missed. He was a pleasure to deal with even across the pond as I am. Right then, I am very interested in your Mk II 4 string and since it's between 8 to 9 lbs, the weight is just right. I have a verified paypal account, and 100 % feedback on ebay ( my ebay user name is mymuse369). I live in NYC, USA. My band (which is a Brit-style, power pop rock) is London Egg ( myspace.com./londonegg or facebook.com/londonegg) , and you can check us out at the links mentioned. May I make an offer privately thru my email addy? Methinks you may have a quick sale in the making, Paul. I will even give you my home phone # when you email me, or you can give me yours and I'll call you if you prefer. I want a Wal MkII again, but a 4 string this time. Thanks for your time and consideration, mate! Cheers! Robes London London Egg NYC
