  1. Now, theres a question.

I use the Valeton mainly at the moment. Its tiny and sound identical to a Boss OC-2. However, I'm a bit of a hoarder of Octave pedals and have a selection of them from classic to modern. For me the highlights include the 80's Pearl Octaver, and original Boss 'Octaver' OC-2, Foxrox Octron 2, EBS Octabass, MXR BOD. These are all great in their own way and cover the analog octave down nicely.

  2. Stumbled across this brilliant lesson the other day on the topic of walking bass line construction.

I've been playing walking basslines for years but this explored some new ideas. It has a deceptively difficult exercise at the end which I've been trying to employ. Should keep you all busy for a while.

    The latest one is up

That B string doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of use, especially as this tune seems to be mostly played within the first 5 frets (“conventional” wisdom says play this mid neck, incorporating the B). Still, another marvellous vid from Lee, it’s his style of playing and his style sounds good to my ears.

Side note: is Lee’s beard the longest standing in music? I understand he hasn’t shaved since college.

Thanks for posting, you beat me to it.

That's interesting... in what way is the XT different to the HD500x.... ???

I can hear digital artefacts, a sort of buzzy, fizzy quality on the XT compared to the HD amp models. For me the HD was a giant leap forward for both the effects and the amp models. I still really rate the HD500x and use it all the time.

I compared my old Pod XT Live with the HD500X, no contest at all.

I'd imagine that comparing an XT against a Helix would be like chalk & cheese.

Yeah, you can definitely hear the difference between the POD XT pro and the HD500X. Less so between Helix and HD500X for my money. Helix still wins though.

I scrolled through to page 4 and there’s quite a mixture, I don’t know most  of them but  there’s a few I’m going to try like,    Another brick in the wall , and Rhythm stick looks like a good break down ,that’s me sorted for the day 😁  thanks for sharing this Noirbass ☝️

My pleasure, there are loads I don’t know on here but there are also many cool YouTube clips I’ve watched written out for you to learn.

If you download the ireal book, you can change the key on the charts.. Only issue is that ireal charts are chords only and no dots.

I use IReal book too, but I’m partly using my physical real book to force me to transpose on the fly. All too often on a gig (remember those?) I had or was given a chart in the wrong key and had to grit my teeth and focus.

I love the CS Bass Fuzz, it’s the most synth like fuzz I’ve ever used.
The Sinelabs Basstard is supposed to be an exact clone.

  9. In order to keep my chops up whilst on lockdown I've been going through the real book. I thought I'd share the Spotify playlist for anyone who fancies a bash. I'm taking the song order from EU Edition of the Real book 6th Edition.

I'd greatly welcome comments on versions and I'll change the list up accordingly. Also many of the tunes are in different keys, which is also keeping me on my toes.

    Enjoy.
