But i must say you have the best avatar ever- all the best- lee

I was watching that French guy on youtube play one last night. Very impressive, but I can't understand the appeal over an ordinary cello, myself.

Sorry for being no help whatsoever.

There was one in promenade music in morcambe,(LANCS) i saw it when i bought my WAV electric upright from there, that was about 8 months ago though, i didnt try it though was too busy fiddling(no pun intended) with my new purchase, cant find no at mo but google it, ask for gary great guy to deal with and gets stuff from the bass centres suppliers, but he has the NS line.
If you get one let me know what its like coz i fancy one in the future.
    All the best- LEE

    Hi!

Was wondering if there are any UK based players using an NS BassCello? I'd really love to try one...alternatively anyone know of a NS dealer who would be able to get one for me to try? I travel all over the UK so anywhere here would be fine.

Any comments on these appreciated, cheers

  3. Hi nick
Thanks very much for the link, ive been paying that for one set of sunbeam from strings direct, ill def be using these guys from now on, i take it theres no extra import tax or anything, also how long do they take to get here.
    Cheers- LEE :)
Thanks for that . Just ordered up some of my regular strings (Sadowskys) , but might have a change around next time.
I know you're e-commerce wary but I thought I'd just give you the heads up on this. The guys I get my strings from in the States are doing 2 sets of Fatbeams for just over £28 shipped. I've been using them for 4 years and I've only ever had excellent service from them .

  4. Hi mate
EBS & Warwick fantastic combination, rig looks fantastic, congratulations i really fancy the 2x12 myself, but i only play in small dark pits with evil metal pipe blowers who complain when you bring anything bigger than cereal box, thats why i got rid of my beloved proline 4x10. How do you like the fafner? i was going to get one but played the td650 and looved it, id love to try the fafner, enjoy the rig bet it sounds amazing. :)
    All the best-LEE

Looking good Jake - how's it all sounding ?

  5. HA HA cheers mate!!
I think he;d had too much catnip or something, i was trying to photograph the cab to put on ebay and he would not leave it alone, didnt notice his stupid look till i checked the pics PRICELESS!!.
I tried the electric shaver and it works a treat, really chuffed!! dont know what my back will look like next time i use it though.
Definatly will be interested in buying some covers for the accu 110's, anyone know of any decent covers that will fit, the proper ones are £60 each, and im a bit skint do roqsolid do the accu sizes.
Cheers everyone -LEE (PS thinking of getting a dog!! ha ha)

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about using a hair trimmer. I've got a mains one kicking about that I use from time to time - I'll give it a go later. Maybe I should shave the cat at the same time as punishment.

    Lee,
Those pics are ace. The second one had me chuckling away. :)

  6. AAhhh the Mayfair!!!
Fantastic place lots of very happy memories, "The gate" isnt half as good, a MASSIVE journey fan, a great guitarist i played with back home got me into them I particularly loved Randy Jacksons playing ,"After the fall" is a favourite, I think your right Ross valory is playing an ovation magnum, very punchy modern sound, worlds apart from Yah wobbles.
    Keep rockin everyone- LEE

Ah the memories... takes me back to my yoot, headbanging at Newcastle Mayfair (sigh) Happy Days.

Is that an Ovation bass that he's playing?

  7. Hi mate
Bought a new accugroove tri110 today, and put on top of my other one only then did i notice the cat rash!!!! :)
So as you say the most expensive cat posts ever and i have three cats sheesh!!!! so any tips would be great, perhaps a blunt razor(gillette) just to trim the sticky out bits of carpets (it works with suits when your guitar strap starts to bobble it.)
Not sure if its worth recovering, cats adore bass cabs

Does any body know of anywhere in the North West that'll re cover my Markbass 121H in carpet? My cat has been using it as an expensive scratching post and it's starting to look a bit of a mess.

  8. Hi
+1 on the unichorus, fantastic sweet sound, still leaves you with plenty of bottom end(theres a trim pot inside which balances your dry and effected sound, it also doubles as a flanger and pitch modulator?????, sad to say i bought it for its flanging as im an anthony jackson freak(and yes i know he used a phaser) but i wasnt keen, but the chorus totally diffrent animal.
I played for a local production of "we will rock you" the queen show last year and used it on "those were the days of our lives" for those beautiful ninth slides, and it almost made me cry(or was it the red onions in my sarnie ha ha)
Anyway two thumbs up for the unichorus buy with confidence.
    All the best-LEE

I'm on an EBS mission myself, so I'm obviously going to say an EBS UniChorus.....but it does sound great.

  9. Hi
If you want to find out what year the warwick is just look at the serial no on the back of the headstock, the last two digits and a letter indicate the year and month it was made the letters are alphabetical and relate to the months i.e A=jan B=feb etc so you should be able to work it out, it does make a big diffrence as the pre 98/99 models were fantastic, they then changed the neck design and started to cut a few corners(with no price diffrence whatsoever), yours is gorgeous though and id be tempted if i didnt already own own a 5 string streamer jazzman( its like a musicman flavoured warwick, doesnt sound exactly like a musicman but def has that vibe) check one out if can.
Hope this helps mate, good luck with the sale.
    All the best -LEE :)

Title says it all, looking for a musicman stingray, 5 or 4 string.

Bass is for sale aswel for £650

It will come with a leather strap with schaller strap locks and a gator hard case.

I will post more pics up tomorrow!

The bass is in good condition. I'm not totally sure what year this bass is but i will find out and post more details.

    -Jak

  10. Hi
I think Rocktron and digitech( bass synth wah) do em with an octave up as well( DONT QUOTE ME THOUGH ON THE DIGITECH)
    Cheers-LEE

hi there, does anyone know of an octiver that does an octive up as well as an octive down. I think the electro-harmonix one is called the pod, but do not quote me on that!

    please give any sugestions!

and do say whether i'm being a complete idiot and making something up!

  12. HI there
The LX in question do you know what year it is, My first ever warwick was a streamer lx i bought new in 1998 and they had much slimmer necks made from wenge and it sounded fantastici used it for years and finally sold it 4 years ago for £450 to buy a lovely red 1990 streamer NT, back to the point they did change the necks to ovankol and changed the neck profile to a really chunky one (which i hate, my 5 string has it) which has a warmer sound but i dont think they are as well made as the earlier ones, Being a fender man a bolt on(warwick) may be more to your taste but its a much more modern sound very punchy!!.
Also remember a fender USA precision has a much better resale value than warwicks at the mo, which is fantastic if you love warwicks mr warwickhunt hit the nail on the head a lot of people are selling LX streamers for not much less than the NT models which is a bit weird but try em see what you prefer( i personally preffered the sound of my old LX which came up for sale on ebay not too long ago i nearly bought it back but i couldnt justify having two 4 string streamers)
good luck with your search, i use fender and warwicks they cover pretty much everything between em.
    take care-LEE :)

A bit of advice would be much appreciated here.

As a dyed in the wool Fender/Musicman fan, I know very little about Warwicks at all.

As some of you may have seen, I currently have a Fender US Precision for trade/sale and was offered a Warwick Streamer LX as part of a deal.

I declined this offer basically because I know nothing about Warwicks and have probably only played 1 in my life.

I'd be grateful if any of you Warwick experts could let me know any more about the Streamer LX, where does it fit in to the Warwick production line (IE in Fender terms is it made in America or is it made in Korea), any idea of value of these basses and also what I'm missing out on.

    Thanks

  13. Hi Andy
Welcome to the site im fairly new myself, but love it, get your gear from the basschat family, theres an awful lot of gear changing hands and we are all saving each other money, guitar guitar did have a nice sadowsky in last time i was there though.
Although my thread says Bolton i am a geordie too, lived there the first 22 years of my life, i moved coz i got married are you studying at newcastle college, thats were i went (quite a few years ago mind).
Take care mate keep rockin- LEE
Nah, we're much cheaper than those guys :)

  14. Hello again
Been doin a bit off googling, The framus bass was called the "soulbass" and had an ovankol/ rosewood neck , Ash body (but does look like bubinga and a badass bridge( a la marcus miller) and i think the pickups were MEC's apparently its discontinued by im am seriously on the lookout for one now it looks th dogs.
I agree with brave sir robin if your budget is massive im sure overwater will make a bubinga, wenge, jazz bass for you and itwill rock! or dare i say a Fodera emperer 2  (very jazz like in the body i think) a personal dream bass of mine.
    Keep funckin- LEE

    Hi there
I seem to remember warwick bringing out a jazz bass ages ago (well it wasnt warwick per se) it was a framus bass which is the same company, have a look on the framus website, it had the MEC jazz pickups/wenge neck and a bubinga body i think, ive not actually seen one in the flesh so cant give any detailed analysis, i play a jazz bass and a couple of warwicks and love them all so would love to try one the idea is cool but never seen one about, have a look :)
    Good hunting- LEE

    Hi

I play a Warwick 5 Thru neck- love the sound but Im having so much fun playing my Marcus Miller 4 string that I would love a Jazz that has as good a sound as my warwick- is there any?

The Warwick can sound low, thick and mean- growl to excess!!

The Jazz is a little limiting- even with the pre-amp and vintage fender p-ups.

Marcus`s sounds great- his fingerstyle sound is the best- listen to the "bass player tv" clinic- unbelievable. I play mostly soul and funk- some gospel so his sound would work- any ideas? I sound miles better on the Warwick so my humble finger skills on giving me a sound do work- I dont want to sound like Marcus ( though I would like to ) I just want a jazz to give me that sustain/ growl/ warmth of a good Warwick.

My budget is massive by the way!! What should I buy- money no object.

    Help really appreciated.

    Cheers

    Bo

  18. Hi guys
When i started playing wayyy back in 1990, i had a japanese bass called a vantage, looked a bit like a westone thunder, it sounded absolutely fantastic i later found out it was a dimarzio p pickup, i loved it. +1 for the EMG too great tone highly recommended especially in the PJ arrangement.
    LEE

    There's a lot of them, so here's my experiences/thoughts:

SDQP - nope, doesn't sound like a Pbass to me. Too aggressive and bright.

SD vintage (not antiq) bang on as a replacement, sounds right looks right.

DiMarzio Model P sounds a a bit more aggressive, but still very true as a P replacement. Also a four conductor humbucker so very good on background noise. Looks wrong, but who cares?

Wizard trad - didn't overly impress me ( :) ). Also found it hard to fit, as the case seems a bit oversized? I know these things vary, but this was the worst I've found. Let me know if you want it?

Kent Armstrong Sky (WD) - very good for the money, pretty traditional P sound but again I found the cover was a bit oversized?

EMG - I love. Can sound pretty P like if you turn the tone down, but a lot cleaner and also brighter if you want. Sounds great with flats. Battery can be a squeeze in a P bass, depands on the routing. And battery changing is a chore, but you don't have to do that very often.

    I currently use the DiMarzio.

    Hope that helps a bit

    BB

    Hi,

I'm selling my Aguilar DB 750, couple of small cosmetic scratches on the top and bottom from inserting into flight case but otherwise excellent condition. 20. AAWWW MAN!!!
I forgot how cool , the pointy headed basses were, when i was 13 i had pictures of Kramers and jacksons all over my wall, time for a comeback i think, ( id love to turn up for a jazz gig with one ha ha) Kip wingers jackson is lovely by the way i was a big fan back in the day- LEE

    :)
Firstly, Michael Manring is just a fantastic player. Amazing how all the changes in tuning do not detract from the music of the piece.

Can I have the bass version of Phil Collen's original archtop Jackson PC1 ??

They did make one for Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, but I can't find a pic anywhere..

  21. For me!!
I t would have to be Mark Kings cocobolo Alembic series 2 ( the matching quilt maple one was gorgeous as well) i had a picture of him with it ripped out of a guitarist magazine from years ago on my wall when i was a student, the thing is an absolute work of art, and in my humble opinion the best sounding instrument he ever used. Iwas lucky enough to play fellow bass chatters Funky hobbits Alembic mark king sig (which i think may have belonged to the man himself) at Howards bass place a few years ago and it was lovely, but not my thing at all ( WHATTTT!!) I guess tastes change , but i do like a bass to sound like a bass these days ( ive even bought my first set of flatwounds, thanks BB) so i reckon spending the best part of £6000 on a bass, is crazy, id be terrified to take it out, but one can dream , itll look great on my wall when i win the lottery (only joking), but for my custom warwick infinity when i can afford it Cocobolo it is.
Oh yeah and marcus 77 jazz is the best bass sound in the world (even though its him) heres to our dream basses lads n lasses -LEE :)

  22. Hi there
Been to both those shops i used to work in a band on the QE2 so we docked there every 2weeks, they are fantastic shops with great gear that is cheaper than home, but do beware the US sales tax which is added on top of any purchase
when you actually buy it, it can be anything up to about 10% of the purchase value, so if a bass is $1000 itll add another$100 it has been a while since i was there though, as for customs at airports i always came off ships with loads of gear as crew so have no experience im afraid. But itll still probably be cheaper than buying things in the UK and youll find lots of tasty stuff we cant get so happy shopping.
    All the best-LEE

Right, first week in America, Im in NYC and I thought "I'll check out some of the guitar shops see whats knocking about" so I head on down to Sam Ash and then on to a shop called Mannys which is directly opposite. Well, Sam Ash and Mannys both had a nice decent stock of basses.

Sam Ash had a selection of tune basses, spector, esp, ibanez, warwick, fender etc and had a particularly nice high end Ibanez SR bass with a wenge neck and a Burl top, a ltd edition for about $759 or something thats about four hundred quid at the exchange rate at the moment, and a special edition quilted maple stingray for about $1995 agan just over a grand at todays exchange rate. I really liked the look of some of the tune basses, they almost look quite boutique and custom made.

My trip ends up with me passing through NY again to get home so Im going to try and budget a bit tighter so I can nab one of these bargains possibly just before I fly home, just out of interest has anybody flown a bass back from the states and did you get stung by customs?

If I get a chance I might run down to the place where they make Sadowskys, If I find any more music shops that are decent I'll flag them up on here.
    [/quote]

  23. Hi there
I used D,adarrio XL'S for a long time, nice warm tone and a great slap sound, but most importantly for you they are fairly inexpensive so if you dont like them its not the end of the world, Rotosound are good quality and well priced although they can tear your fingers to shreds fantastic raw sound for rock. I also tried picato when i started and they are great for the money.
I currently use DR sunbeams which are gorgeous sounding but a bit pricey, but they do last, and dont forget the boiling trick on your old strings itll brighten them up but only for a day or two.
    Enjoy your new band, regards-LEE

EDIT - Sorry I think i put this in wrong section of forum

I'm on the verge of joining a band in Uni, that play Blues and Funk - Hendrix, BB King, Howlin Wolf etc, and I've realised that I have yet to change the strings on my bass even though I've had it for 18 months and have been playing with stock strings since.

Basically, I've been playing a lot for the past 18 months but in bedroom, and a few half arsed jams so I've never really cared about the tone of my guitar, but I think its time to buy some decent strings. I simply do not really understand a lot of the technical side of the bass guitar, I basically read tabs and play. so I need advice badly cos I know fook all.

What strings would you more experienced lot recommend? I play a basic Washburn T14 so its hardly packs a nice tone, but because I plan to play slap and 12 bar blues type stuff, I want to treat myself to some new strings that may improve the sound. You have to forgive my stupidity as words like Roundwood or flatwood, or 105 super slinky gauge blah blah have literally zero meaning to me as I havent experimented with other basses, so please treat me like an idiot
