My double bass looks great in the corner of the room, but it's not getting used. So, I'm thinking, maybe there's someone out there who fancies learning to play one and always thought about taking the plunge? I bought this used for £400 and had it literally2a minutes when I knocked it over and snapped the head off it outside the bloke's house where I bought it! Aaagh! I took it straight to Jimmy Moon in Glasgow, and he put my mind af ease straight away. "Kev, it's a clean break, and to be honest, nearly all double basses get head repairs at some stage". The repair cost me £170 and the bass plays better as Jimmy (himself a double bassist) set it up. I've included pics of the break repair. It has absolutely no impact on the playability or sound. The bass has Non-steel core strings, do you can actually fret the notes and get a lovely deep "woomp" from the strings. For any electric bassist who's tried to play steel strung double basses will know what I'm talking about!! Steel strings = ouch!!!! Hahaha Anyhow, I'm based in Motherwell, and the price of £350 includes the padded gig bag. Great! Incidentally, if you do decide to change the pickguard, you'll need a '62 reissue one - NOT the '75 reissue I mentioned!! The outer edge screwholes are in different places on the '62 and '75 versions you see.

Just drove to Edinburgh and the Shell Pink Jazz Bass has a new home! The bass was bought by John and he seems really pleased with it. John, it was really nice meeting you, and I hope you have loads of fun with the bass (hope your wife likes it also!)

Well, I guess some of you may have seen the thread I posted regarding the Shell Pink refinish? It's literally like a thin skin Fender factory finish, and the bass sounds more "open and woody" than it did with the original thick nitro Fender finish on there. SOLD TO LOZBASS!!! XOkay, some of you may have seen the build thread for this fabulous bass, made by this Forum's own Wes Steed. If youve not seen the build thread (or if you want to have another look), here's a link: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/90374-steed-basses-build-thread/ The bass has a fabulously, chocolatey brown Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. This piece of timber is over 60 years old, and is the highly sought after Dalbergia Negra variety (the variety that Jimmy Coppolo charges a $1,000 upgrade for on his basses - yikes!!!!!) Anyhow, the bass is a cracker, with all the punch and grunt you'd expect from a classic P-Bass. The Instrument is lightly relic-ed and comes with a hard case also (as shown in the pics below). The specs are: Body - 2 piece lightweight alder (the instrument is light soothers no problem if you planned on using it on long gigs) Neck - lightly flamed maple with Dalbergia Negra Brazilian Risewood fingerboard Celluloid pickguard (custom made by Pickguardian in the USA) aluminium full shielding plate under the pickguard. Lollar P-Bass pickup Full nitrocellulose lacquer finish on body and neck. Thr body's Olympic White finish has no clear cost (like the very early 60's Fender finishes, do it's really vibrant. Vintage style CTS pots Switch rage vintage style output jack Bridge and pickup chrome cover plate "ashtrays" included also. I received this bass 4 weeks ago on Friday and, as I mentioned earlier, I'd much prefer that it was being used rather than simply sitting here a mty place looking, playing and sounding fantastic.
