Geddy's Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass
kevin_lindsay replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
The list price is £40, but the sale price will go down and up between now and the release date. The £18.59 price was a mega deal that the price reduced to shortly after it'srelease date was announced (hence why I ordered two copies!!). If the price drops below that amount between now and the release date, I'll simply be charged the lowest price. -

Yeah, my pre-order price was £18.59 too, with free delivery (I also ordered another copy as a present for my friend Paul Turner). If you pre-order the book on Amazon, then they will honour the lowest price it is advertised for between the time you order it and when it is actually released. -

I've already pre-ordered the book. Really looking forward to seeing the collection in print. -
I saw that clip last week and was really impressed. The bass player gets a great Geddy sound from his G&L bass. Another fun Rush cover band are "Fred Barchetta" who feature Uriah Duffy (ex Whitesnake) on bass. The girl singer really nails the early Rush vocal on this track, I've included a YouTube link below: (Incidentally, how do you embed YouTube clips in replied on this forum?) http://youtu.be/HodK8zn7xz4

An Evening of Duran Duran BBC 4, Fri 29th June.

It was also cool to see John using one of his two Sei Basses in the studio clips too (for all the bass spotter nerds). As for the David Lynch film comments above - yup, I have to agree, it was absolutely dire!!! -
I've got it - good watch, but it should have been called "The Will Lee and Richard Bona" film as they'e got the most screen time - WAY more than anyone else.

As much as the show seems to get slated, it' the bestbliveusic show on TV these days, and still provides the occasional gem. Peter Gabriel - performing "In Your Eyes" (incidentally, how do you embed YouTube videos on this site?) https://youtu.be/fQeeJaemrMY -
The old Presentation model has a truss rod- but as you correctly stated earlier, there are no stiffening rods or materials in the neck construction (a truss rod doesn't act as a "stiffening agent", rather it is there to counteract the tension exerted by the strings on the neck). I've played Dave Swift's presentation model, and yup, there is definitely a truss rod in there. Crazily expensive basses!!!
-
While the Fodera Anthony Jackson has no graphite stiffening bars in the neck, it does use a truss rod - a titanium one.

Loved the film!! Richard Bona is an absolute delight to watch, he just has so much fun when he plays.

Nick, I've now got the downloaded film. Thanks for testing the email link for me. I've dropped you an email letting you know about my adventures in getting it completed.

I was really looking forward to watching the film yesterday, but as I mentioned earlier, the paused download with no ability to resume the download, really was irksome for me. And as I had retried to download via the link, it' now no longer possible to obtain the download I had paid for. Seemingly if I now want it, I'm being redirected to the site to pay an additional £8.99 to activate another link. Erm, no thanks. Hopefully the DVD will arrive soon as part of my pre-ordered bundle package.

I got a second email with the download link. I clicked and it began the job. However, in my case of paused at around the 1.5Gb mark, and the download couldn't be continued. So, I tried the link again- the same thing happened. So, I tried the link yet again, only to be informed that I had reached the maximum number of download requests. Pretty whizzed off. I wonder when the DVD will arrive so that I can get to see what I've paid for?

Has anyone heard anything yet in regards to their orders for the film? I ordeed the bundle package (DVD, CD, digital download, t-shirt, and Elixir strings). I was looking forward to watching the digital download today (The release date was supposed to be today- 27th April '18). As yet, I haven't heard anything. Any news from any other pre-order customers on here?

Here's an old gig pic. Anyone got any idea who's playing? The guy on double neck guitar? That's Pino Palladino!!!

Applying wood grain filler, here' what I do: Apply a sealer coat of nitro lacquer. This stops the wood from simply swallowing the filler. Then, apply the grain filler. The filler will then be able to provide a suitable "build" without sinking into the grain. After sanding the filler smooth, apply more sanding sealer lacquer. This will allow you to achieve a flat finish before applying the colour or top coats. Incidentally, I was with Chris McIntyre last week and he's found the most amazing grain filler I've ever experienced. Water soluble, and sands super smooth - giving a sanded residue like flour - no clogging of your sandpaper. The finish is incredible. And, it takes colour stain too if you're applying that. And, it's not expensive either - result!!! (If you want details, drop Chris an email - [email protected] )

I'll be picking up the bass next week, it will be good to get it in an assembled and properly set up format. I'l be sure to post pics. Not long to go now.

Everyone has their own preferences, and also their own dislikes (e.g. I personally have never been a fan of Lake Placid Blue finishes). However, I think tobacco sunburst is one of the all time greatest finishes. So much so, that I'm currently making this at home (believe it or not, I sprayed the nitrocellulose lacquer finish out of my kitchen window).

I popped through to Edinburgh yesterday to see Chris McIntyre. We ended up just chatting, then grabbed a bite to eat. End results that we got nothing done on my bass! I've left the bits and pieces with him, and I'll now collect the finished instrument in the first week of April.
