  1. Hi Bigredx

    Thanks for the reply.

I used both the standard drummer instrument and also tried using the keyboard as a drum, neither of which did much for me. It could be my lack of skills on Garageband.

I will take a look at Logic later today.

    Cheers.

    Update 10 mins after posting:

    - Yikes. Logic is £200!

  2. Hi there

I am considering picking up a drum machine for songwriting. Currently, I play guitar and bass but lack any drums.

Ideally something I can use to create simple drums to play along with and add into garage band to create demo tracks. I have tried using the drums on Garageband but am not getting much joy from it.

I don't want to spend a lot of cash - no more than £150.

    Features I want:

    1. ability to create own drum loops
    2. ability to upload into laptop
    3. preset drum loops included

Has anyone got any first hand experience of drum machines as I am a complete novice.

    Thanks

  3. A Ricky is still on my list of basses to play. Personally I think they look awesome, but I am a bit of a Cliff Burton fan boy. I particularly love the colour of this one.

Sadly Sneaky Pete the one eyed mad cat is the star of this particular show......

  4. Hi I have the squire deluxe jazz bass v. Just measured it. The nut measures 5cm with 1cm between the strings, 1.9cm at the bridge.

As for the bass itself, i find the neck supremely comfortable for such a wide neck (i have small hands) the tones I can get from it are pretty damn good. I can drop tune this to F# comfortably with no tweaking.

Build quality is top notch and in black it's a striking looking bass. I get a lot of compliments on the tone and playability. For the money, its probably one of the best value basses I've ever bought.

Nobody ever seems to mention them in this sort of discussion, but I always think a Danelectro Longhorn would be good for youngsters. Short scale, very lightweight, cool funky looks and generally lovely to play.

I was going to chip in with this....you beat me to it.

  6. I picked up my Ibanez there at Xmas. There was a pretty good selection of gear already. Found the staff very helpful and friendly. The guy helping me knew his stuff, didn't get in the way and start showing off his slap skills for me (which is a real bug bear of mine). Walked away a happy chap. Parking is a bit tight, but was easy enough in Mrs K's little car.

Popped into Wunjos Bass on Denmark St to check out the Ibbys today, as I had a meeting in town.

I did really like the sound of the Nordstrand PUPs and the playability of the instrument.

Some very minor shop dings on the back of the SR1800 – so Tom, the manager, agreed to knock £159 off the display price which, together with a hard case and two year unlimited free servicing, I think we both left happy with!

Delighted to have finally bought something from these guys, having been in an out of the store empty handed for the past 4 years!

    Beautiful - congratulations.

Justin's simply not trying hard enough with his custom Warwick.

Where's the ridiculous shape? The graphics that look as though they were done by a 5 year old?

    Amateur...

    this.

  9. I use a line 6 backtrack which captures all the nonsense I sit and noodle. Every now and again, I just sit down, listen to all the stuff on there and find a few gems that I can work with. For example, I picked up an odd guitar noodle that I messed about with using far too many effects back in early 2016 (i think i had drunk a few jagers) and it sparked a really nifty chorus for a song I have been working on for a while.

My inspiration tends to come when I am out running early in the morning, it's shame its too much to carry a bass while I run!

I had a Thunderbird Pro for a while before the neck dive singled it out for sale.

Lovely tone, really sang out...just couldn't get on with the Eergonomics

Pretty much this. Really wanted one, tried one, loved the tone and the look, neck was nice and fast. Body too unwieldy for home noodling.

I had a Ditto X2 no issues with any of my basses, passive or active. Nice bit of kit. Only sold it as my amp has a built in looper and it was surplus to requirements

Aha - I think the headstock is a give away now I look at it. Just a dodgy logo nothing else. An absolute bargain.

  12. Had some bore turn up to quote for some windows once. He caught sight of my bass and started on about playing guitar in his local church band and waxed lyrical about Les Paul's to me, my face must have glazed over as eventually he asked me if I played in a band.

I explained that I was the bass player of a Black Metal band called Church of the Rotting Christ. His face was a picture. When I asked him if he would like tickets to our next gig, my wife had to leave the room.

He measured up super fast after that and left without any further musical discussions.

PS. Still trying to get that band up and running......
