I used to live in Nuneaton, which isn't far from Tamworth. I have to say, though, that I avoided the place like the plague. I hate the place and I've never met a polite person while there, ever. And there was a band from Tamworth that wanted to poach me from another band. At some point, while they were at my place, begging and pleading and then getting nasty, the singer stole my old Shure Microphone, because he didn't have one of his own!

Have to agree, I dont live there, Just not far away. they seem to hate anyone with a Birmingham accent as well which dont help much.

Nuneaton aint much better though, but at least there were a few good venues there...

Well back in the 80's when I worked in the industry the only dominant store in the area had a bit of a reputation for being erm... 'less than helpful', partly because there had been no real competition for 30 years.
Putting it bluntly, we wanted as many of their customers as we could get and went out of our way to make sure we were as different from them as we could possibly be.

We nicked ideas from loads of different places and tweaked them to give us any advantage we could get.

I'm sure our 'setup when quiet' policy happens in a lot of stores, but it's only going to be an 'improvement' as what constitutes a 'good setup' is so subjective. .

Was this in Leicester ? I always found the Carlsboro centre helpful , Mind you, I did buy a Precision off them that they 'hadnt had time to set up'.

Green Lanes Music was OK as well back in the day.

    You as well?!?

Is there anyone here that doesn't live in the Tamworth area?

Probably the reason I've not noticed music shops over in Tamworth is that I don't stay long enough to wander about, I just go to specific places.

Nor me, just run into the bank, then out again usually.

Laney and Carlsbro do trannies at one end too. All of them are a ballpain to carry. Lots of people consider amps other than Marshall and Fender to be a myth though.
Yeah they do ,but there is a sound reason behind it (sorry). Sound City probably would have, but with so many valves the amp would have to be about 3 feet long... :D :D

The handle is just cosmetic, cant understand why they didnt fit one at each end to make life easier. Of course, Vox did, but then they put a tranny each end anyway.

    Where abouts is that?
I'm over in Tamworth quite often and haven't spotted it either! :)

I'm lucky enough to have a good relationship with a shop in Ibstock (I live in the next village), not a huge range of bass product but they'll always get stuff in and do their best to match internet prices.

Opposite Wilkinsons ?? theres another one round the corner as well, as you walk towards the Pizza place. Never been in them though.

Another thing that might work for removing tolex is a hot iron. Just sit it on each part for a minute or so & it should peel fine.
I'd then look outside the box & cover the cab with fur fabric. :D
Worked for me, put brown paper betwen the iron and the tolex though. Cord carpet is cheap and would look good, lots of colours as well.

Look at an amp thats not a marshall or a fender, they're pretty much all laid out like how i've got it. Chassis was ebay and i drilled it all out myself and transformers were from a chap i know
Wasnt having a pop . What I meant was most self build amp projects go for the logical in one end and out the other approach, which kinda makes sense.

Like I said, whatever works for you.

Nah keeping it SS The extra bases are there if i fancy turning it into a 200W. 12.6v heaters use half the current and thus produce less noise, although it doesn't make to much difference with dc.

in regards to transformers, theres enough seperation for it not to cause an issue, only really matters if you have them right next to each other. Having one facing the other direction would mean more noise due to the magnetic field messing with the valves.
Bit unconventional having trannies at opposite ends, used to seeing them close and the signal path going from one end of the chassis to the other. Still, whatever works for you.

Looks a nice job . Were the transformers and chassis easy to come across ? I've never seen any advertised anywhere.

Aren't the laminations in the transformers traditionally mounted at 90 degrees to each other? I'm sure I've seen it/read it somewhere.
I think it's meant to cut down mutually induced hum. Or something. I may have just dreamt it though...
No your right. I was taught that as well. Dunno how much difference it makes in practice, but of the top of my head I cant think olf any commercial amps that didnt do it. Usually with the Choke at 90 degrees to the trannies as well.

    Looks nice though.

Fantastic! :D Very generous indeed, thank you!

How about a set for everyone who posted in this topic before your post and the rest first come first served?
Is that fair? You can post them all to me and I'll make sure everyone gets them, if you like.
Or whatever is best for you. What does anyone else think? :)

    Thanks again, Jason.

Sounds fair, what an excellent idea. And what a generous gesture from jason at Roto.

" The Rolling Stones are the best band in the World. I think so, so does my wife and our daughter and all her friends".

That's from our booted lead singer/guitarist and band creator who refused to play a Snow Patrol track because nobody's ever heard of them :(
Is Snow Patrol a band then ??

  12. Probably just a noisy semiconductor, try heating the PCB with a hairdrier while you listen to the hiss, see if it gets louder. Google the numbers on the chips, and if theyre plug in ones or if your solering skills up to it, replace em, probably only cost pennies if theyre generic types.

  13. Think I'll try the Peavey. If only cos I havent been crazy about any of the modern Laney stuff I've seen in rehearsal rooms.

Line 6 is out, hated everything of theirs Ive seen. Thanks anyway, just not for me.
