3. All the advice above is spot on. I would add, though, that Ashdown sound great but can be unreliable! I recently got a seccond hand Hartke HA3500 and it's superb. Go for the Hartke LH500...That's the one that was highly praised and recommended to me as well. Thomann have them for £236!! ...But Trace Elliot and Peavey are also good reliable 'trouser vibrators' too!
4. The BEST way to avoid rip offs is to avoid Ebay and, especially Paypal!
5. Just discovered the Fender Modern Player Jaguar...WOW! Has anyone got one or can give me the link to when these were discussed here please!? They certainly have got the look!
6. Yeah, I do love Fender basses, Jazz's particularly! CV or VM would be good, but I'll have a look for the MIMs too.
7. Just picked up a Hartke HA3500 + tuner + case from a very nice and helpful guy on this very forum! Then picked up a Marshall 7041 400 watt 4X10 cab today....Luverrrrly! Very happy. Just need a bass now, having been p*ssed about by somebody else on this very forum! Recommend something second hand around £250
8. Thanks Lozz. Just got back here with it and tried it. Awesome!! That was one good deal at £80 and in good nick!
9. Are these good cabs? I understand Marshall's reputation for 6 string gear, but are their bass cabs good too? This is the 7041 400 watt bass cab going for a silly price near me. Thanks Al
10. So, there's a Laney 4x10..... Are Laney bass cabs any good?? It's available for a good price, near me and there's a Peavey 2x10 also available for a good price. .......or just go 1x15?
11. Yeah, I have heard that too Billy. That's another good reason why I'm asking around. There's said to be a lot of bullshit surrounding wattage these days. Best going for an older amp.
12.
Like most above have said, good solid workhorses that weigh the same. From your other thread, you're looking for amp/cab or combo for @ £400. There's a lot of things out there that fits in your budget from Ashdown & Hartke to Peavey & so on. I'd recommend a 2nd hand Markbass LMII head (usually @ £250 - £300 now) & get yourself a decent 2x10 with what's left & then add another 2x10 or upgrade the cab when funds allow. Go & try some stuff & see what you get on best with.
Well, it looks as though, all being well, I'll be going for a Hartke HA3500 and a Peavey TX 210 cab all for £275. Bargain I reckon.
13. Right. Thanks for all your comments and based on them I shall be getting the Peavey TX10 2x10 cab then! Thanks a lot folks. These forums really are soooperb! Cheers Al
14. Ashdown ABM-C110-200 Klystron Bass Magnifier for sale for £130! Could it handle gigs in pubs/clubs without going through the PA?
15. Cheers Bigwan. I really do like a slightly distorted tone, so anything that produces a nice smooth distortion would be good .....Assuming the same thing applies with bass set ups? (we 6 string guitarists love our smooth valvey distortion).
16. Here's something for sale @£450. I know Ampeg valve amps are good, but is this set up (solid state, I think) any good? Bass Amp Amplifier Ampeg B2re B2-re Head, B115e Cab, Dbx 166xl Compressor And Gator Case
17. I've decided to get off the guitar and go onto bass duties, whilst there seems to be a frustrating lack of bassists here in the Southampton area! I have a CV Jazz bass on the way, and now need an amp! Now, I'm not too bothered about how much an amp/cab arrangement weighs (I could do with losing a bit of weight anyway heehee) but I'm happy to go with a combo too. I've had the Harkte LH500 or HA 3500 recommended over Ashdown, although, as I understand it, the EVO series is good. Trace Elliot earlier amps are another option. Basically, I'd like a load of opinions on what is a good used set up, for up to £400-500 please. Just bang on about what you'd recommend please. I'd be very grateful for some more options, as every time I see a Hartke/Ashdown/Trace Elliot worth going for, it's bloody miles away and, understandably, pick up only! Thanks Al
18. I need to get a bass amp for around £300-400 and, looking at second hand gear there are one or two Peavey amps around. Any good?
