1. I've got fond memories of British Lion and Steve from years back.

Some of BL came from round my way and Steve knew a landlord of a pub in Thorpe Le Soken (Vic Hiles), anyway me and some mates went to see BL in this sleepy little village pub (which became quite a rocker hang out for a while) and met Steve and a few other Maiden types in the bar.

As a result our drummer ended up fitting phones into Steve's studio at his home and several of us from the pub ended up doing 'yob backing vocals' on Fear of The Dark (From Here to Eternity and Chains of Misery) then having a pint in Steve's own pub at his house. Complete with stage props from the World Slavery Tour.

Our drummer even ended up gigging in a pair of Steve's old spandex trousers from the World Slavery tour for a while! It wasn't a pretty sight.

Also saw the BL guys a lot and I even still have an old 'European' tour t-shirt somehwere, one date on the back - Great Bentley Village Hall!

Nice that Steve has got this material out (though he originally didn't play bass with BL, just managed them.)

  2. Hi, I had a TC BH500 (which I believe is similar to the classic but with a more traditional, and heavier power amp) and this was paired with a BC 210 and 212. It was monster loud and had quite a few useful features.

However, I knew after a few run outs that I was never going to love it, just seemed a bit 'normal.' After I had moved it on one of my guitarists descibed it as 'characterless.'

I got a good deal on a second hand EBS rig and the HD350 is a stonking head, with lots of tonal variation, compression and drive. I like it very much, and so does my guitairist friend!

  3. I've got an old SVT140TC combo, it's a 410 and 'only' 140 watts. But, it's a sealed stereo configuration and has great 'traditional Ampeg' tone. Nice eq, and plenty loud enough for average pub gigs but with balanced DI output for PA if needed. Gigged it constantly back in the day, lent it to mates (who all wanted to buy it), left it in the garage and it's never missed a beat, not even blown a fuse.

A real workhorse, and weighs about the same as one too!

The combos are rare but the heads come up occasionaly on the bay and are usually pretty cheap.

  4. Hi

I've got one of these that is sick at the moment too, the fuse in the kettle lead socket (accessed via the little drawer the other guys mentioned above) pulls straight out and there should be a spare fuse actually tucked inside the little drawer. If not they are 3.15A. Can get these pretty easy appropriate electrical stores.

If you take the top off (you'll need a little allen key for one connector) then there are two more glass fuses inside, I think these are 10amp. Worth checking these too.

Unfortunately, this isn't the issue with mine, it's in with Essex Amp Repairs at the moment in Witham, they say something about a 'power - capacitor' , (I may be wrong about the capacitor bit) but there is six of them and one isn't working on mine, which causes the fuse to blow every time.

Hope we are both up and running again soon!

Update: seems you solved this while I was typing, nice one.

  5. Far too many to choose from! For me, a heavy riff has to have a groove and impact, rather than maintain a constant level of ferocity. But I appreciate that tastes differ and that's one of the things I like best about 'Heavy Metal' , that so many variations of styles come along, take something and add something and it develops.

Liking Rammstein at the moment, and also partial to a bit of Mastodon.

No idea how you get the video's in. Old git, with addled headbanger brain cells....

(Update, old dog has been taught new tricks!!)

  6. Hi all

Just got myself a nice little Zoom H2n, which seems to be ideal for what I need (just recording practices really.) Never had any sort of recording device before (well since my WH Smith cassette recorder when I was 10, I'm 44 now you know..)

Now, I'm not thick, but neither do I pick up fancy computer interfaces 'intuitively'. The Zoom came with some Wavelab software and I'd hoped that this would enable me to easily chop down the files into song sized chunks, maybe convert it to MP3 (the Zoom can do this too) and then just let me bung out files to the band. That's about it really, not bothered with processing it at all.

Well, I can't even work out how to fast forward through tracks with this Wavelab software. I'm the sort of guy who needs the 'quick start' manual and nothing more, can't even find anything like that.

Sorry as I'm sure this has been asked loads of times, but any suggestions welcome.

Cheers all, feeling a bit useless!

    Jason

  7. Guten Tag!

Not just the land of Warwicks, but Sandbergs too! (I've got both, nothing like a nicely turned out German beneath your fingers...)

Oh and Rammstein!! Thankyou very much for them too, stunning live band.

  8. Having shamelessly tried (unsuccesfully) to flog you my Behringer Bass Overdrive, I must now add my support to the Lomenzo Hyperdrive.

I used mine at practice for the first time last night and previously usually only kicked an overdrive on every now and then. I found myself leaving the Lomenzo on a lot longer. I also forgot to turn off the 10db boost (that it has for 'solos'), so I was quite loud....

Nice unit, think you might find you'd use it more than you think if you can get one at the right price for you.

  9. Thanks mate, that's interesting. As my main bass is active this would suggest little/no benefit.

He does mention George L's as potentially having some advantage of the cheapy moulded ones (like mine) for when people have lots of pedals connected. I have six pedals in my loop currently.

At the moment I'm not inclined to spend the cash (on something as dull as patch cables) just to experiment, and the research on the link does suggest that they are a placebo if you use an active instrument.

I might stick a simple true bypass looper in front of all of them though so I can take the lot out when not needed.
