The neck is basically unplayed. Frets have zero wear and truss rod is perfect.

The neck had 70s style tuners on it and whoever fitted them must have been a bit ham fisted as they snapped a couple of screws in the holes. I was going to rout them out and plug the holes but decided to fit lighter weight tuners instead and the bass it is attached to balances much better on the strap so I've just left things as they are.

Gear 4 Music has them at £249 without tuners and with mine you get the benefit of having had the nut filed as well.

    Price includes UK postage.

Obvs this is neck only, body not included.

  2. The parts are as follows:

Mexican P neck (Player series I think).

Squier body with a bit of perhaps not strictly honest wear.

    Vintage style bridge.

    Stew Mac own brand pickups.

Stew Mac control package (I think they're CTS pots).

    Fender stamped neck plate.

    Generic pickguard.

The neck is basically unplayed. Frets have zero wear and truss rod is perfect.

    Strung with Pyramid flats.

The neck had 70s style tuners on it and whoever fitted them must have been a bit ham fisted as they snapped a couple of screws in the holes. I was going to rout them out and plug the holes but decided to fit lighter weight tuners instead and the bass balances much better on the strap so I've just left things as they are.

The weight is just under 8lb 12oz and balances well for a bass this light.

The pickups are embarrassingly nice - the bass sounds as good if not better than my late 70s P. They have a bit more warmth to them.

Price includes UK delivery or you can come to Brighton.

    Bits listed separately here:

  3. Tom bought a jazz bass from me. Super easy guy to deal with. He sorted a courier to pick the bass up and there were good comms throughout. Would deal with Tom against without hesitation. Top BC'er.

Nice bass, what makes it hybrid?

Apparently it's the mix of modern and vintage features. This is from Fender's own blurb:

    LIMITED QUANTITY

The Made in Japan Hybrid II is a series worthy of being called a "hybrid", as it retains its vintage looks and incorporates almighty modern specs for any player or music genre. Regardless of rhythm or lead, we have created a product that combines playability and instrumental tone that fits any guitarist or bassist.

I think in the case of this bass the vintage is the passive electronics and the 20 fret neck. The modern is the through body stringing option, the tuners and the bridge. I bought it as I wanted a totally no frills instrument with decent playability and build quality and I also wanted a heel adjust truss rod as I'm old school in that regard - rightly or wrongly I think they are more reliable than bullets or other headstock adjust truss rods.

  5. I got this to use as a headphone practice amp and to use as an input to my audio interface. It has an aux input so you can play along to backing tracks and drum loops. It has eq and clean/fuzz settings. You can DI it or plug phones in. I'm not using this anymore as my new amp has its own aux input. These are £129 at Thomann. Price includes UK postage.

  6. I managed to strip the truss rod on this neck so got a luthier to take off the skunk stripe, fit a new truss rod and put a new skunk stripe in. After putting the neck back on, the a crack appeared between the top inlay and the nut with the truss rod at full adjustment. I've played this for a while with either light (39-96) labella flats or thomasik jazz rounds/jazz flats and there's minimal relief and the action is good. With higher tension strings, e.g. DR Legend the relief is creeping out beyond the 1mm mark which results in action too high for my tastes. If you're looking to put together a 70s build on a budget an you're not wanting high tension string or you're too fussed about a super low action, this should be fine. This is the original model with rosewood rather than pau ferro board.

  7. I got this a few years back with the idea that my other half might take up the bass - she didn't. Anyway, I fell in love with the beautiful rubbery sound of a short scale with flats. I've done plenty of jazz jam sessions and the odd jazz gig with this and it's perfect for that. With the tone open, you get McCartney type tones and rolled off sounds almost upright like. The pickup is fantastic. I'm selling as I have too many basses and I'm decluttering my life right now. Condition wise, it's used not abused. It's nearly 20 years old and it's been played so it's on the good side of what you might expect. There's a small crack in the lacquer at the back of the headstock and a tiny crack in the paint at the neck joint. A couple of dings in the top of the headstock and some blemishes in the finish. It's got Thomastik flats on it which I put on about 6-7 years ago and they have remained since.

I'd prefer local pickup in Brighton but I'll post at buyers expense.

    Thanks for looking.

I already have a Lake Placid blue MIJ 97 Fender Jazz but this is gorgeous and actually looks better then mine. Thankfully you are about as far away me as you can be and still be in England.

Why somebody hasn't come along and taken this off you, I have no idea. I'd be checking what the kids are worth these days to raise some cash. I suppose you don't want to swap it for a stroppy 14 year old? Sadly we aren't allowed to apprentice them to chimney sweeps otherwise I'd have done that.

I'd hate to sell this guitar.

    Rob

This might explain why I have a couple of Fenders for sale. The two for sale aren't in the pic 🙂

  9. I'm 95% sure this is a Squire Classic Vibe body. The pickups are Fender 60s custom shop and the pots are CTS. The bridge looks like it's Squire. This is something that I've gigged loads of times but now selling as I've got too many basses! Some minor cracks in finish around neck pocket. UK postage included in price.

  10. Thinning the herd and this isn't getting much use. I bought this as I have a Mustang which I really like playing but I find the 19 fret neck a bit limiting. This has 22 frets and a super slim neck so a bit more versatile and even though 2" longer in scale than the Mustang, still very easy to play. You can see from the pictures it has a paint chip but other than that no issues on the finish. Truss rod is like an MM Stingray which is a nice touch. Currently strung with LaBella flats. It has Fender USA 75 RI pickups in it (I'll supply the originals). If you want it returned to stock, I'll drop the price by £50. No hardcase with this. Local pickup in Brighton preferred but will box it up for anyone who wants to arrange a courier.

    Thanks for looking.

  11. Thinning the herd so this is up for sale. I bought this to replace a 78 jazz that I'd sold due to being a bit too heavy. It's so pretty that I'm scared to take it anywhere. I got a small ding in it (shown in pic) and wanted to cry. I don't want to keep something that I'm so precious about! Plays and sounds great. Nice combo of skinny fret wire but more modern flatter radius. No hardcase with this. Local pickup in Brighton preferred but I'll box it up for anyone who wants to arrange a courier. It will come with the white pickguard that it was sold with.
