I love the sound of passive precisions when played by others but I can never get a good sound out of them myself
For me the P sound is best in a band rather practicing. Not really sure why.

That's a relief. I hadn't noticed the picture of the back of the body so that's saved me some cash.
I take it you're an active fan? Flats and foam mute is more my thing so it's passive all the way for me.

I always use UPS to ship basses through Interparcel
I also had one of these and was unlucky enough for it to develop a faulty preamp so I changed it all over to EMGs with the 3 band EQ that barely all fit inside the cavity. 2 9v batteries could be made to fit in the battery compartment by fitting them sideways
Mine's the passive version so there's no need to worry about that on this bass. I actually prefer passive basses which is why I went for this model (that and the block/bound neck and super cool colour 😀).

For those who have enquired about shipping, I have a box that some of my own GAS arrived in a little while back (see last pic) so nobody needs to worry about it being damaged in transit (unless there's some sort of complete disaster for which insurance should cover). PM me to discuss courier etc. It's been a while since I sent anything this sort of size so I'm not really sure the best company to use.

As soon as I saw one of these the first time, I instantly liked the look of it.
Had a play of one briefly, at a local BC meet, and it was a nice player too.
Wish I could justify owning one, but sadly I can't. Having reduced my collection - I've sold a few, and still bought one or two more.... will I ever learn? lol
Anyhow, if I was looking for a P bass right now, I'd be sorely tempted

I've thought about this a lot and I've decided to let go of this fantastic bass.
Excellent build quality, this will change your mind about anything bad you've heard about Mexican Fender basses.
Best neck ever - super slim, action low and buzz free.
Really nice sounding pickups. Not at all harsh even when wide open.
Nice and light (8.5-9lbs by bathroom scales - ok, not super accurate but this def feels sub 9lb).
Short run bass so quite unusual and a really nice colour.
I'm a bit of a tort fanatic so I had a tort plate on it which I'll supply.
Prefer local pickup in Brighton but I could box it up and send within UK.
The only issue is a minor nick in the binding/lacquer between 2 and 3rd fret which I've tried to show in the pics.
I'm selling because I don't like to take it on a gig for fear of putting another nick in it somewhere!

Is the neck straight? Truss rod function as it should? Did you have it on a fender body?
Cheers.

I've had this for four or five years now and initially it was my main gigging bass but lately I've been playing a Mexican bitsa bass as it's lighter and cheaper or one of my 5 string basses.
I wouldn't say it has any bad points as it plays and sounds brilliant and it's only lacquer checking and some fairly minor scuffing and a bit of tarnish of the chrome that show its age. The neck is straight and it has plenty of life in the original frets.
I can't speak for the originality of every single nut bolt and screw as I'm not the original owner however when I bought it, I had a luthier friend of mine check it over and he said it was all legit.
Two reasons I'm thinking of selling i) I'm wanting to get an older jazz and so having some extra funds would be nice ii) I'm getting too old and skinny for a 10 pounder.
I'd much prefer local pickup in Brighton UK but would consider shipping within the UK at a push but this has to be arranged and paid for by buyer.
Not desperate to sell as it's probably earning more interest than money in the bank!
Message me if you want more pics.
Also, I'd trade for an older original jazz (nothing else), money your way.
Here are some clips to hear what it sounds like. Same line, different volume/tone settings.
Both pickups and tone on 10:
Back pickup only, tone on 2:
Front pickup, tone on 6:

Lovely bass. Are you visiting the south of England anytime soon?

That price is obscene. Someone buy this before I find a reason to buy it!

I know nothing about grass roots basses, other than they're Japanese I think?
Yeah, I bought it from ishibashi in Japan although I'm not certain it's Japanese made. I fell in love with the blocks and binding and liked the idea of a 22 fret neck as the 19 frets on the Mustang can be a bit limiting.

Sorry, forgot to say it's a Grass Roots medium scale.

I have done this in the past. Well, I planned to return it but never did... Its too tempting to keep instruments once they're at home.
I hesitate to ask this as its covered in a number of threads, but what's everyone's favourite short scale?
I've been poking around some reviews. I haven't heard a Mustang sound that I like, although I love the look.
The acinonyx sounds good, but is a bit pricey for me at the moment.
The sire u5 looks worth a try. If it's as good as my v7 ill be happy.
I'm erring towards the sterling short scale as I've fancied a stingray type for a while.
I'm also curious about the Reverend Sentinel but there's not many sound examples online. I can get to merchant City music for a try in the next month or so hopefully.
Anything else worth a try?
I've got a mustang which I like and this as well which is a 32" scale, slim neck and compact body so it doesn't feel too different to the mustang. I need to thin the herd though so I'll have to toss a coin pretty soon.

Do you play one finger per fret at the low end of the neck? If so, try Simandle technique and shift a bit more. Way easier on the wrists and tension generally.
-
I play jazz flats and jazz rounds. Every now and then I try something else but I always go back to them. I have to set the action a bit higher due to the low tension but it's a small price to pay. Thomastiks are the bomb in tone and feel. Possibly not a slap string but I'm fine with that as I'm pretty much a pure fingerstyle player.

I've been studying jazz with a great teacher for over 3 years and I'm just scratching the surface despite practicing 2-3 hours a day. The most important things with jazz are patience and consistency. Slowly but surely you'll get there but people need to understand that the work finishes on the day you die 😁
