Must admit 500w or so means very little to me beyond is it loud enough for MY purposes I equate it to cars and BHP and top speed etc ... you need to know what this really means in context with the car. A BMW and Mondeo will both do 150mph..for example, but there is a world of difference in how they do it. 500 watts from one amp, IME.. may not be like 500 in another in terms of how it handles it. Some amps will be puffing away to get to 500watts...others will do it easily and sound nowhere near as 'strained' Of course, these are subjective observations and not scientific, on my part.
i see what u mean here.used a hartke HA5500 and a Ashdowb ABM 1 both are around 500 watt amps but the hartke pisses over the ashdown in terms or volume and head room. Theres so much more volume on the hartke Although what mondeos u been drinving that do 150.lol maybe the ST

personally i always look for somthing with a good continous power output of RMS as its known somtimes.
-
i would guess dynamic is like peak power output and continous is like the constant output that can be achived. i may be wrong though.

i got a squier bass its the special lefty model with the p/j setup. its a nice bass to be fair i did take the jazz pickup out and wire in some syemour duncan P bass pickups and they really made it come alive. only thing i would say is it is abit heavy compare to a mexican jazz bass. going to get a squier jazz bass next as i cant really afford fender and squier has impressed me.
Well in that case you're invited to the Lefty Bass Bash too. Check the thread in the 'Events' forum.
Thank you. i will check it out soon
This is brilliant, discreet! I don't remember too much of mine. I was oh so nervous; full of nerves and excitement. The whole thing flew by. Afterwards I wished we'd played more, and recognised the nerves were overdone. All that fuss! We had about 30 people, most of whom were mates. You'll do great. You'll know the stuff, and it 'll be just like a big rehearsal in front of people who want you to do well. Let us know how you get on
thats a good way of looking at things to be fair, yea i'll let everyone know how it went, thing we are doing 8 songs

How easily replaceable are you for your band?
paulypbass replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
i think everyone at one time or another things about being replaced or if there good enough for the band. The band i'm in is with my mates so if i got replaced or another member did then it be like loosing a mate. Personally i think the drummer and guitarist are good at what they do and i would be the easyest to replace. -
[sup]Only used the HA5500 but its an amazing sounding amp and has bucket loads of power.[/sup]
-
i used to use a laney rb3 65watt. it wasnt the best sounding thing in the work but it got the job done at practice with the volume knob on 8.lol its not to heavy either.

what bass player is is inspiring you right now?
paulypbass replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
Mark hoppus- love his tone even if his playing is simple Roger from less than jake.- just like some of the funky basslines he comes up with which are fun to play Billy sheedan- odd one out the three but just seems such a nice guy and his playing is nuts -
So what sort music do you play? what do you play when your on your own and if your in a band what sort of music do you play with them. At the moment i play in a ska/pop/punk band, i guess thats the best way to describe it.

Thanks for everyones comments and advice by the way.

yea sticking with the ashdown cabs for now and see how it all sounds. wouldnt mind hartke cabs though i like the way the ally speakers look behind a black grill. although i am unsure as to what they sound like.
The rehearsal room we use (new facility in Cumbernauld, check it out http://www.amrehears...co.uk/index.htm) has Ashdown stacks in all 3 rooms. They're, mmmm, ok is all I would say. I think I've said this previously, but I've tried to like Ashdown stuff on so many occasions. Compared to my old Trace head and Peavey 410 cab, the sound just isn't there. Enough volume, but really no clarity. Regardign EQ, I could easily be convinced that the tone controls aren't actually connected to anything. Through any three of them, my Squier Jazz sounds pretty dull. Through the trace, there shed loads of snappy top end. As I said, I've tried to like Ashdown many times, to the point of having owned 3 or 4, but for me it just hasn't worked.
same here. this is my third Ashdown amp My first was a mag 300 then an ABM evo 2 500. i then sold it and stoped playing for a year or 2 and then got the evo 1. bit gutted about it really but i guess the ABM isnt for me. love the sound of the hartke HA5500 though.
Hartke are great value for money, but I've got an Ashdown ABM500 and an ABM300 and at 4ohms they're both easily loud enough with tonnes to spare. And this is in a loud rock/punk band with a very enthusiastic drummer . The VU rarely enters the red. Any ABM lacking volume into two correct cabs would certainly suggest to me there's a fault.
wells its at least 12 years old now and iv only had it for 4 months so i dont no how it was treated in the past.

just put a deposit down on the HA5500 i played at the music shop the other day couldnt stop thinking about how nice it sounded. picking it up tomrrow cant wait!!!!
-
well i'm playing alot of ska punk/ pop punk atm. but i think i may go with the HA series
-
tryed a Hartke HA5500 At my local music store today and it sounded amazing with a fender jazz bass. so much nicer sounding than the ashdown.
-
yea i will sudjest turning down at practce to the rest of me band. we only practice loud becuase we practice at my mates house and its in the middle of no where.lol i will try what u said with the EQs though.
-
i dont think u can really set up an amp wrong. i think i am gunna go with at least a hartke head and see what it sounds like with the mag 410T. mite even go the whole hog and buy hartke cabs aswell but i'll see. very disapointed though always liked the look of ashdown and always liked the fact that i was standing in front of an english amp.lol
-
Unless there's something wrong with it, or you haven't set it up right, that head through those cabs should bring down small buildings!
yea thats what i thought. i emailed ashdown about it and they told me theres nothing wrong with the amp. when i am playing i have the input gain on 1/2 way and the output at 3/4. the valve drive is half way up and the sub harmonic is at 9 o clock. plus what ever my eq settings are. i was just a little disapointed on its volume to be fair. i just thought i wouldnt have to turn it up more than half way to keep up with a 120 watt laney guitar amp. iv i turn it up much more then the VU meter just sits in the red.
-
well atm the ABM is running through a mag 410 and a 115. my guitarist is using a 120 watt laney combo which is loud but has it on 6 when we practice. i normally have the output volume on 3/4 and the input 1/2 way and it keeps up fine but just sounds shocking really i personally though with an ABM head i wouldnt have to turn it up more than half way. We do practice loud though.lol I think i will b going for a hartke head though. not sure about what cabs to go with though
