1. I hear ya! I just picked up a USA S.U.B. 5 string for £250 (used of course) and it's awesome.... :-)
2. Just bagged a Stingray 5 S.U.B. USA in black for £350..... If I could justify the £1000+ for a regular Stingray I would, but the SUB is practically the same and good enough for me. See how it goes, anyway... :-)
3. The Yammies are nice basses, but not really any simpler than what I've got now. One pickup is an absolute must. Three knobs is an absolute max (vol/treb/bass)
4. Hey all, I'm on the lookout for a new 5 string. I like my guitars to be super simple - I'm happy to sacrifice flexibility for this, no probs. Gimme one pickup and a volume knob and I'm happy, but they just don't seem to make quality basses this way. I like 17mm string spacing, but apart from that I'm open to suggestions. I like Stingrays. I like Warwicks Not a Fender fan. Any ideas? :-) Jim
5. Yeah, I just stuck to the subject of volume/bass power. Tone is another can of worms entirely and I wouldn't consider myself the right person to talk about that!
6. Dooooooo it! it's either that, or I post a link to THIS thread on there! ;-)
7. Incidentally, would the community here on BC mind if I occasionally mentioned a new blog post that I'd done? I wouldn't mention gigs or owt like that, perhaps just the stuff pertaining to bass gear? I guess I could put band stuff in another section on the forum? I'm working on a guide to covers band promotion and wondered whether anyone might find it useful. Contributions welcome!
8. Oh, for sure - I'm not saying 2x12's are the be all and end all, but I think they do the job in a lot of circumstances, plus seem to fit just nicely in the average car.
9. Hey all, I just wrote a little article about a few popular misconceptions about bass cabs. You can find it HERE As you can see, I've come under a little bit of criticism - apparently, everybody apart from beginners knows this stuff? In my experience, many many people certainly do not. Comments welcome, both here and on the blog! Jim
10. Hiya Pete! Yep - it's kinda a mixed blessing - no cab for this weekend but it's going to be brilliant when it's fixed! Wire had defo come off the PCB. I took the crossover off the back of the cab and another short red jumper lead literally just fell off as i did so - about three inch long. No idea where from! Anyhoo, it's off to the repairman and I can't wait to get it back!!! ;-)
11. Hiya all, I've just checked my Genz cab and it seems that the bottom driver is not working. This is fab, because it explains my lack of power. However, I need to get it fixed for tonight! I'm just nipping out to get a soldering iron, but it would be marvelous if I knew what to do! The bottom driver (not working) has a black and red lead going to the crossover. The red wire looks to have become detached from the crossover. It has a bare wire end (no spade connector). The top driver has a black and red lead, both attached. There is a green wire coming from the crossover that's not attached to anything. Should this go to the tweeter Along with the white one? Cheers, Jim
12. I totally know what you're saying, but I find that reducing the bass just reduces the bass. I have the bass boost on the guitar up between 50 and 100%. I have the bass knob on the amp about 3 oclock. Mids (set to low mid) nearly full. Treble to taste. I read threads about people playing with everything on 12 oclock and I try it occasionally. I'd quit playing if I had to use that sound......
13.
A streamliner and Genz neox 2x12 flat out on the bass control and volume control sounds like a gig i don't want to be at
A lot of people on here have said that and it makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong. If only one of you knowledgeable dudes could swing by a gig and have a listen!
14. I've already got so much bass wound up - I daren't tell you! :-(
15.
Is it possible the in built bass shelving will already be holding the bass back further than the cab?
And the what now? :-)
16.
If a 2x12 isn't enough, then I wouldn't suggest just another singular 2x12 (+ whatever). I would suggest more speakers. Genz currently have a sale on at GAK. I would get another GB 2x12 if your amp will run to 2 ohms.
I can't transport two cabs.
17. I should add - the Markbass cab is the STANDARD 152HR
18. Hi all, I'm still on the search for the ultimate one-cab solution. I have a GB 212 already, but for some gigs it doesn't *quite* have the low end power that I need. I have seen a used Markbass 2x15" cab, and although it is a bit bigger it will still fit in my car. I had thought about another GB212, but i couldn't get two of them in. Has anyone got any experience of this cab? How would it compare to the Genz? Music at the moment is 60's/70's stuff, but could end up being virtually anything down the line. Cheers, Jim
19. I wish one of you could come to a gig in the Huddersfield area and have a listen! I guess I need to do a bit of a/bing between different basses, cabs and amps to try and see where the weak link is, if indeed there is one. It might just be me.....
20. I think I'm going to try a few different basses through the rig too. I've only really used the one bass, and it's quite probably that the sound it makes is not doing me any favours at all....
