I've been wondering about the harley benton t bird, does it have that typical growl associated with t birds?

I don't know to be honest, this is my first t-bird and only ever played one Gibson Thunderbird for about 10 minutes. However from what I have heard from mine is that the sound isn't as big as the gibsons but there are a few factors that could explain that:

I can only play through headphones at home and they were on the way out so it probably wasn't handling the HB very well.

When I tried the Gibson I was plugged into the new fender rumble head and 115 cab in a sound proof room so could really ramp the volume.

So I haven't really been able to give it a fair comparison. But the HB does sound good even with busted headphones!

In terms of playability, I would say they are the same

    Hope that answers your question!

  2. I've recently got the HB T-bird. It is great, plays nicely, looks good and sounds good too. The only thing I would say is that the pickups perhaps are a little weak but then my headphones died so it could just be that the headphones weren't showing the true sound.

I also got the HB E335 guitar, that's great too and I would say there's nothing that I don't like about it. For just over £100 it plays and sounds just as good as a Hofner version I played recently which was about £500!

    BttF set in 1955.
Gibson ES 335 released in 1958!

Looks like a nice instrument, and that was a really cool thing to buy it for a friend.

Didn't know that it doesn't match up with dates etc but still it looks good :) just missing the bigsby I think....?

Definitely a cool thing to buy for a friend!

Not played there but a band I was depping for rehearsed in the studios round the corner and after prac would go for a drink there - I never did as don`t drink. None of them were particularly rough people and they never seemed to have any issues with the place. I`d say if going for the gig research the other bands on the bill as seems like Mark got a bad deal with the other band rather than the pub itself.

The other band were more troublesome, but despite numerous messages about BOTB before and after the gig we never had a response after the first one promoting it. The organiser wasn't even there to 'judge' the bands and seemingly the staff there didn't have a clue about it either!

  5. I gigged there 3-4 years ago, I wouldn't call it rough there was barely anyone there. They said they couldn't let us plug into anything as it would cause a power shortage to the strip club upstairs. So we had to source a generator if we wanted to play. Luckily we found one. It was supposedly meant to be a battle of the bands but that was just made up, there was 2 bands us and some cocky teenagers who turned up with 1 guitar, no bass , no bass or guitar amps and assumed we would let them use it. We said no so they had to play with just their acoustic guitar they brought along. They were lucky that we actually let them use the generator we had to source. They tried starting a fight with me and my brother who was our guitarist and singer. They didn't get very far as we kindly told them where to go and they soiled their pants. Oh I almost forgot the fact we needed a generator was that the sound man did have a generator but he got pissed and drunk drove away with his generator.....

I would be wary of playing there if I were you, but I'm sure others may have had a better experience!

Quite glad I stumbled across this thread! I've been thinking about a jazz, and that surf green is absolutely lovely!

Might have to think more seriously after Christmas ;)

Glad you've got yourselves some lovely examples!

Or you could think more seriously before Christmas ;)

  8. I like quite a few of Weezer songs, mostly from the Blue album. Keep Fishing(radio version) off Maladroit has a really good bassline, the reason I've said (rv) is seemingly the other version doesn't have as detailed bassline.

I don't know what happened with Beverley Hills not my thing really.

You Gave Your Love To Me Softly off Pinkerton is a favourite of mine, alongside Buddy Holly and Say It Ain't So both off the Blue Album

Forgot to add that my brother saw Weezer sometime last year, it was in the car park of his local shopping centre/mall and he said they were pretty loose and didn't sound particularly great so he said he was a bit disappointed with them. I've not seen them live so I can't comment but from watching them play on various tv programmes in the US they seem good, maybe they were just having an off day when my brother saw them

  9. ;) I mean the nut, but feel free to order some butter!

Ok so I have now fitted:

    Black graphtech nut
    Black string tree
    Black bridge

Black control plate still to arrive then I'll try and get some black tuners and that's it!
