  1. Will has been an absolute pleasure to deal with.  Clear communication, knows his gear and did a great packaging job on the amp.  I’m always nervous about couriers handling amps (or anything!) but no worries at all this time.  Thanks again 😎

  2. Any updates on this?

I’ve never met Phil, but have had some contact with him on the interweb.  Always been impressed with the PJB line and his concept for how audio can be.  Hope all goes well for him.

  3. I wouldn’t want to run lower than 4ohms, which is probably the internal load of the combo’s own speakers.  For expansion options I would find another SWR head (Bass 350, or any of the Workingmans series) and drive that from the preamp of the combo (patched into effects return).

  4. SWR used to say their amps would run down to 2 ohms, but (having used a lot of them over the years) I wouldn't recommend it.  They run fairly hot anyway and going that low will only get them hotter quicker.  The extra output will be marginal, but put more stress on the amp.

Maybe look out for a cheap Workingman's head and use that as a power amp for an additional cab?

  5. I’d suggest black plastic tapewounds as a good alternative for acoustics.  GHS, Galli and a few others sell them.  Check the scale length for fit on your bass.  Thomastik flats are great but the B string is huge, and might not be a good idea on an acoustic style bridge.

  6. The lack of high pass on SWR’s is something to be aware of.  My Redhead will make the speakers jump around at fairly low volume, especially with a lot of low end eq boost.  The Stereo 800 in bridge mode would easily do the same with a Goliath 4x10.  Just don’t overdo the low end, keep the volume sensible.  Great amps.

I really wish I’d remembered this one when I accidentally drove past Newbury yesterday 😳

I'm not knowledgable enough to give an answer, but my guess is, in the finish. How deep would the stain sink in?

Yes, most likely…but not always.  If any chipped areas (on the back?) don’t show stain, then it’s probably in the finish, between clear coats.

    I’m obviously thinking about a less coloured re-finish 😜🤔

    Seriously tempted….and in Bristol 😎
