In my opinion there is no such thing as a 'one fits all bass'.
And since you asked; yes, I think this is a bad idea! :D

I've never found a J pickup to blend well with a P
Aye don't get your bass butchered!
Instead why not go for a 2nd hand Squier PJ Special if you really want to experiment?
I had one which I upgraded the pup's in and to be honest it still sounded crap, ended up playing it with the J pup turned off.
and yeah I'm older than 30. :)

I think I might have scared him off, I sent him this about an hour ago.
Dear peds858,

Hey mate,
Do yourself a favour and change the description of this bass, as I can guarantee you that it is NOT a Fender! Here's a few things that are glaringly wrong! 1. Fender's have the truss rod adjuster at the heel of the neck, not at the headstock. 2. The headstock is the wrong shape, 3. The bridge is wrong, yours has 7 screws whereas a Fender has 5, 4. The Machine heads are not stamped with the Fender logo. 5. There is no serial number on the neck plate.

Just this. You could say that for a bass player, Im slightly obsessed with Robbo...

Check the solo out from 2:45 - and look at the way he struts forward - sheer arrogance, but it works for me!
Great song, He plays this solo better on the Live & Dangerous album. But then again, apart from the drums, Live & Dangerous is a studio recording.

4. Two more gems.

Rory.

These are great bass guitars
I agree totally!

'Tis a lovely golour but looks like it's had a fair old bash down by the jack socket, big chip out of it & I'm wondering how far that 'possible crack' or join in the wood separating, might run under the scratch guard  Wouldn't risk it without close inspection personally.
Aye too right! The chip wouldn't bother me too much, especially where that one is, as it's in general damage territory. The cracks though are a different story, they could run deeper or could be just in the lacquer, at least he had the decency to highlight all the damage, (a lot don't!) after all it was obscured by the stand in his other pics. On the other hand, it went via a private bidder for it's starting price, could've easily been a mate or a family member winning.

I had an 8-string one of them back in the 80s, I loved it at the time, but it had the most vicious neck-dive of anything I've ever picked up. Keep thinking I'd like another, but I'm suspecting that's nostagia talking...
Aye I know where you're coming from there. I felt the same about my old Hondo II Precision.
it's like that "The sun was always shining when we were kids" analogy ....in reality we all know it wasn't!

White, black, maple. Doesn't get much better than that.

Apart from Black,Black,maple.
Aye I agree with both views, and they have to be Precisions too, non of that ugly off-set body Jazz malarky. :)

9. Thought I'd show off me £50 Squier VM Precision with it's new Mighty Mite neck.
First song I played on it was Accidents Will Happen. After the broken screws debacle,
http://basschat.co.u...ade-good-again/ it just seemed right! :)
