2.
Or buy one for cheaper from Coda!

If they don't charge for shipping I guess I could've saved £50 .. no matter, done now & am really pleased with it !

3. Just thought I'd post this thread cos I received mine today & I'm well impressed ! Was on the lookout for Hohner & had the chance to try a 'spirit' out earlier this week which I guess is similar if not a little inferior but was not convinced (apart from the price £199 ex p&p) ..

anyway, I found a real Steinberger, new 4 string synapse model & couldn't resist !

'spirit' = conference league
'synapse' = premier

I'm no expert but think it's real quality .. have a rad of this email response from 'absolutemusicsolutions'

"Hi Simon Robin is away playing until Monday ..you might be interested to know we had the only 2 of those basses the distributor had and they will not ever see any more and advised me to retail them at £699 each so I think you got a bargain and I am pleased to hear you love it ..enjoy..Terry

Hi Robin,

Received the Steinberger today .. really pleased, lovely bass .. real quality ! .. unless it explodes or implodes in next few days you shall not be getting it back ! lol

Regards

Simon"

Just checked and they still have the other .. here's the link (btw £495 incl p&p)

http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/shop/view_p...RGER&page=1

If someone on here buys this & likes it ... they can buy us a pint sometime !

good luck

Si

4. Well I just tried a Spirit out .. not bad at all (for £200) but found myself playing everything 2-3 frets higher than normal ! .. I might actually sound good (or at least experimental) if I ever have to use one as a backup ... so looks like I might have to 'sort of' make my own 'frankenstein' .. with a shorter neck ...

so can anyone advise where I can get a 'locking nut' from and more importantly .. a 'steinberger bridge' (4 string) .. will add post on 'items wanted' .. any spare necks lying around with broken headstocks ? .. spare wood for 'body' etc

It's a bit of a long shot but might make a nice project .. only for backup & messing around with at home etc

5. Have bought loads of stuff from Thomann ...

- are by far the cheapest on almost everything (just do usual internet research/comparision)
- the price you see is what you pay .. no tax (vat or import)
- 30 dat money back guarantee (was gonna return on a cab but didn't keep original packaging, they will charge if you don't !)
- 3 year warranty (sent faulty amp back, they pay for collection/return & don't need original packaging ! but I'd still wait 30 days before you bin it !)

negative side .. probably putting UK retailers out of business !

I guess most of us on here are 'amateur' as in non-signed .. we all want the best (cheapest) price before we part with our hard earned cash !
Signed / endorsed artists probably get most of it for free ! Bass player I know (signed band) got given a £1600 Warwick .. never used it .. sold it for £900 but is mentioned on Warwick's website under 'artists' .. bet he hasn't bought any strings for 20 years either !

6. Thanks a lot for all the replies guys .. sounds like either would suffice .. I have bid on ebay on both Hohner and H & S but stuck to my limit & got out bid ..
soundcontrol do 'steinberger spirit' for £199 ... I'm in no rush, so I might just wait it out till one comes up on here.

cheers

Si

ps. I play jazz bass so I guess I'll like the neck (used to play 'mediocre' guitar afterall) ..

pps. this looks a bit dodgy .. member since 04-Dec-03 but '0' feedback ???

7. 1stly - good luck with the build !

2ndly - I was gonna buy that body but I guess you beat me to it ! I was gonna strip it then stain it (got some black stain - used b4 looks pretty good) then metal pickguard. Got 1 on Geddy Lee jazz - looks ace .. (tho maybe not everyones taste) .. gonna put 1 on Warmoth jazz too ! Already had tuners & noiseless pups ready .. guess I'll have to sell em now. Unless another jazz body & neck come along (cheap ! lol)

Si

ps. will watch this space to follow your progress

8. Yeah, heard of them after some US fan slagged us off for stealing their name ! No matter, they're no longer active & if we ever have to change our name it will probably something like ' r - kid' .. that's what my bro usually says when he introduces me to someone !

Si

9. ORCHID .. not the usual sort of name for a rock/metal band .. my bro (guitar) has loads of them tattooed on his arm .. thankfully he didn't do for daffodils or pansies !

btw .. we're looking for a drummer if any of you know of anyone ? .. and possibly keyboards ?

cheers

Si

ps. thanks for 'hello's'

10. Thanks guys ... thought no one was gonna say 'hello' .....

Si

ps. Geddy Lee jazz is ace (having Warmoth neck sanded down to simillar spec) .. don't know about other jazz basses (MIA etc) but can't see myself ever buying another.

Will post spme pics when I've sussed it out (& taken some)

11. Hi all, name's Simon .. live in Bradford (W.Yorks) though not all my life (thank god ! .. just kidding its ok) .. anyway, I stumbled across this forum when I was reviewing pups etc, read some really useful posts .. no doubt many more on here. Usually check harmony central for product reviews but this is a great way of interacting with like minded people .. can pick loads of brains for juicy (tech) stuff etc ..... can probably find (sell) great gear too !

Still pretty new to bass playing .. about 5 years (forgive the pick playing .. used to play (mediocre) guitar) .. got into by chance when bass player quit my brother's band .. haven't look back since .. love it ! Still play bit of guitar cos it's sometimes easier writing riffs etc ... will tell you a bit about some gear I have/had .. still on going I guess ...

- Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass
- Warmouth Jazz (replacing Fender Noiseless pups with SD QP's .. had already ordered them before I read about Wizard pups on here .. will give em a try)
- Ibanez DWB3 (sanded & stained - looks much better but don't really use it anymore .. will probably post in 'for sale' forum soon)

- Phil Jones Sixpack & 9B
- Ashdown Superfly (backup)

- EBS Unichorus (on its way !) .. Boss BF3 (on it's way out !)
- Boss TU-2

- maybe EBS Microbass II .. gonna check it out on Monday .. so any recommendations (esp. for home recording)

The following has gone (slight regret but only gear I've sold & actually made a profit from !)

- Trace Elliot GP12 SMX
- Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 Stereo

I play bass in a band called ORCHID (myspace.com/orchidrockband) .. check it out if you like, got some demos & pics on there.
We're always looking for gigs, though have a 'temp' drummer at the moment .. not sure what he's doing as he's in 3 other bands (so if you know anyone in Leeds/Bradford are)

Anyway, after reading/surfing the forums I think I've found a great site & you all seem really helpful & friendly ..

cheers

Si
