Me too.....but I still enjoy, must admit tho' i'm a massive 'Blues' fan and like yourself find myself jamming round a twelve bar with different styles....be it Shuffle, Funky....lol.

Thanks Guyz probably this is an individuals issue.....Jamerson was great but his lines were to me tastefull and melodic not just a blear of notes, bends and trickery.....each to there own on this one........but thanks for the comments.....I agree that sometimes 'Boundaries need to be pushed' but not playing it like a Lead Guitar......just a no, no for me....Cheers.

Hello, Forgive my Rant just a personal view......but what's your opinion on the roll of the Bass Player.....to me it was always and still is to keep it all together??? So why is it the need with so many Bassists today to 'Be so Flash' Just an example watched a clip of Rhonda Smith don't get me wrong she's amazing....but the clip shows her with the band.....another Bass Player doing the Roll of Bass Player....while she's out front playing Bass like a 'Lead Guitarist' loads of effects and so on.....not just her but so many out there....why this need to 'Push the Boundaries' eh Rant over.......Just 'Keep the Groove'.....Cheers.

See Chas n Dave first time back in '79 when they were first on the bill at Knebworth they was great....seen them a few times since, top geezers entertainers and musicians to boot....and not forgetting Mickey Burke on Drums......geertcha.

Brilliant Bass Player one of my all time Fave's along with Jamerson and Willy Weeks and a few others to boot.

Nice Read mate i'm just venturing out into the world of Bass again after a few years off...in no real hurry...got a lot of catching up to do....but feels good to pick the Bass up again....cheers for the read....Bob.

Welcome Aboard it's a fantastic site.....very helpful....I've just got back into playing after a few years off.

Believe it or not first gigging Rig/Set up was a 90w Carlsbro Viper Amp and a Battered up 70s Encore P Bass which I stripped down to the wood because it was a horrible bright red....but it served me well in a 50s/60s covers band.....at a total cost of £90.
Had several budget set ups since.....always Squier Jazz basses and a few different Combo's (a Trace Elliot Commando and a Hartke Combo.
Not gigging at mo' just started up again with a Jap Fender Jazz and a Marshall Bass State Combo (£399)....still budget but doesn't beat some of the above.

Some great points raised....personally I think a natural ability will always win thro'....there are some naturally gifted musicians which is what makes them great....then there's those like myself who have to work hard to achieve something....but it's all about enjoyment and we can all live in hope that one day we'll achieve our goal.
