What could have happened with the finish on this 🤔

It's like something that's way past moist 😁
I'd be a lot happier if AntwanTheSwan did less singing and they stuck with a Big Groove!
I concur. The past 10 years of his vocals have killed the peppers for me.

Prince and the Revolution in Purple Rain. Acting not too bad but a cracking film nonetheless.

From what I can tell this is 510xxx. I've got a '74 Jazz #410xx and an early '75 Precision #590xx so I'd have thought this was more likely to be a late '74 / early '75 bass. Intrigued by the "tortious guard"...
Although having said that, I don't know if you could still get black block inlays after they started doing mother of pearl on maple boards in '73 - '74.
My Jazz is #410xxx which puts it at ‘73/‘74 on the serial number date checker with the pots dated early ‘74.
I wish there was a way of checking what finish it left the factory with as my, rosewood necked, Jazz is white which I reckon is a refin which looked old when I got it in 1993.

I’m often surprised with the lack of regard for Uplift Mofo Party Plan. Flea was absolutely on fire on it, indeed the whole band was peaking. And what’s not to love about the bass break in Fight Like a Brave?! Love that album.

That was the party I blagged into... IIRC we met GBOA there and went on to support them 5 or 6 times, last time was at Edward's no. 8.
Not jealous. At all. Nope. 🤣
I loved Gaye Bykers, still got a very worn yellow PFX T-shirt somewhere.

@Leonard Smalls I first saw them in 1990 and knew even then that I was late on the scene. I missed them by a day playing in Sheffield on the PMO tour and good lord I missed, at what would have been at the time my ultimate gig, them at the Astoria with Gaye Bykers on Acid supporting. Damnations!

By The Way is a great album too - I don't understand why it gets all the hate. Bar 'Carbron', I think every song is at least good.
Yup, it’s a favourite of mine too alongside Uplift Mofo and Bloodsugar. I prefer it to Stadium Arcadium.

There are many of Prince’s song I’d love to hear his bass isolated. If I had to pick one though it’d be Alphabet St.

That bass track for 'Knowing Me Knowing You' is mindblowing..... Love Rutger (RIP) even more now!
See also The Name of the Game, on which Mr Gunnarsson also did the string arrangements (it says here).
