1. Chuffed to bits with how my hearing test went this morning with only a slightly low reading on the highest pitch at the lowest volume but nothing to worry too much about.

Top marks for Specsavers in Brighouse and the lady who tested me as the whole service was superb ( also used them very recently to get my first pair of specs at 49 years old and the service was excellent )

Still getting a little noise but seems to be diminishing since I started a few weeks ago using plugs and being careful etc

She recommended getting my ears syringed ( 3/4's full of wax ) before she does the impressions for the custom fits I am going to purchase ( apparently prices from them start at around £80 and go up to about £200 ish )

PS The test was FREE !!!!

This is one of the songs I heard the first time I went to the ALC and prompted the initial posting....sure you will agree it is not your typical church song !!

Hi CK, any chance you could embed the youtube link to show it ??

    Many thanks

  3. Saturday night, Queen Vic at Northowram near Halifax

Great pub with a very friendly crowd in with plenty of dancing so for an encore we rolled out Wig Wam Bam that we had practised for functions and as predicted by me and our singer it went down an absolute storm with some very suggestive dancing being done in our direction !!

Great gig and two next weekend......can't wait :)

  5. It's one of the songs in our set that I started off playing a bit of a busking version at practice a few years ago and then worked it round a little so it sits ok with the other instruments.

After playing it for two years I listened again to the original and my version is quite different to the recorded version ( happens quite a bit :) )

  6. I probably play it wrong but for the main riff I start with a long open E then on the A string play D to E then on the E string A to B then on the A D to E again

When it moves up I start the same sequence on G on the E string

Like I say it is probably technically wrong but it works well as we have a keyboard player playing some of the other bits

Great song for getting the dance floor full !!

  7. Just thought I would add a few comments to this thread that has far exceeded anything else I have commented about.

I sincerely apologise to anyone who may have got the impression that I was trying to promote the ALC or the views that the organisers or congregation believe in.

I simply went along one Sunday evening, enjoyed it and returned the following few weeks.

  8. Wow, I didn't expect to log on tonight and find three pages of comments !!

I can only speak it as I see and experience it.

I was VERY sceptical on my first visit but just really enjoyed the whole evening of music, singing and message ( and when I say sceptical I really mean it as I would never have envisaged myself in church for anything more than the traditional weddings, funerals etc )

My children ( 7, 8 and 11 ) loved the children's classes and are delighted every Sunday when I ask them if they want to go again.

Everyone I have met has been very nice and friendly.

The band, singers and music are superb.

I grew up as a teenager in the seventies when life was pretty different to how it is now and as my children grow that bit older I will have to try to guide them in the right direction to ensure that they have the best start in life. From what I saw of the huge numbers of teenagers at the ALC all having a brilliant time singing etc and from what I have researched since then this is certainly a place that I would feel safe if they wanted to attend.

  9. A few weeks ago my partner dragged me along to the Abundant Life Centre in Bradford as she said I would enjoy it and despite my initial reservations I had a brilliant evening listening ( and singing along ) to some very well crafted and brilliantly played christian rock music.

Quite honestly I was staggered at the whole set up and how professional it was with huge stage and video screens, lighting, line array pa, 7 piece band plus about another 7 singers etc

Yes, the message was about God and Christianity but put across in such a way as to be very accesible ( everyone including the Pastor etc in jeans and tee shirts etc ) with a wide range of ages in the audience with probably more people under thirty than over !!

I have returned every week since and really enjoyed the music, message and all round experience and just wonder if anyone else has been.

By the way this is not meant to start a religious thread of who or what is the best religion nor is it a marketing exercise to get people to attend. I am just curious as to who out there on the forum may be involved with this place or others as once again music seems to be the one area that brings people together to share nice times and experiences together.

  10. Not quite made it to 50 ( four months to go ) and was in specsavers last week for reading glasses that I pick up this week ( brilliant service by the way ) and I am going to get my ears tested at the same time as I am now getting a little noise.

Although I am skint I think am going to get some of the custom moulded ones as the thought of having to give up playing live is terrible so I want to keep things protected as best I can. I will keep posting at each stage.

  11.
We're going out with Limehouse Lizzy for a few dates in and around North Yorks next year. Looking forward to that one. Can't recall the venues but I know the town hall in Masham is one of them.
Good Evening Dr Dave

That sounds like a mighty fine evening of good music so please post the dates when you have them

    Thanks

    Tony

  12. Sorry guys but this just has to stop !!

I can't afford a Shuker, in fact at the moment I probably couldn't afford a second hand encore going cheap on ebay but as I type I am looking around the house thinking what can I sell because I JUST HAVE TO HAVE ONE :)

  13.
You want cheese, my band does Disco inferno, Oh What a night (Late December back in '63) etc AND That's the Way I like it! They all keep the dance floor filled...

All great songs for bass players, although I sometimes have a mental block about the starting run down on Disco Inferno.

We also do "That's The Way I Like It " I'm beginning to wonder if we are contenders for England's Cheesiest Band !!
