3. In my rig i have a Mesa powerhouse 4X12, which weighs in at 136lb/62kg i personally couldnt use anything else as i love the low end rumble and the sheer power that this cab outputs. alongside that i have a QSC 1400 watt poweramp so id say go with the 4x10, either way ur gunna have to be luggin a cab about, but for rehearsing and gigging, isnt it better that u are happier with your sound?

    Compresser

i used to use a DBX 266XL Compressor/Limiter/Gate and i picked it up for around 50 pound, and that was a few years ago, i found that it did the job, i now actually use the compressor built into my navigator preamp which im rather happy with and it only has ratio and threshold setting In my opinion a compressor is a great piece of gear to have, a nice way to balance out your sound and also helps with headroom which is always a good thing hope this helps in some way
  5.
Just noticed your band is 96/4. I know the guy who used to play bass for them - you ever spoken to him? He's a Conklin man too, and a cool guy
yeah ck, never met the guy as he moved to china, and now lives in canada and is married ive been in the band for 3 years now, were recording our album hence me upgrading the conklin, and i couldnt be happier with how it sounds now where are you from and how do u know ck?
  6.
Your B string situation looks familiar from my days of owning Conklins
lol was a quick replacement B, which wasnt tapered so doesnt exactly fit need to order myself a nice new fullset cant wait to hear how the pups and preamp react with new strings either
  7. Main post edited, more pics added

  9.
It would help to know what preamp you're using and what it expects as an input.
audere 3zb is the preamp, and its expecting one wire from the neck pu, one from the bridge pu , a common from both the pu wired together and to the preamp and a ground if there is one
  10.
From looking at the KA website: http://www.kentarmstrong.com/pages/schematics.html It looks like your black is hot, the red & green should be twisted together to be your common, and the white & bare wires should be twisted together to be your ground. But have a look at the PDF on that page as it may have the exact circuit you need.
see i got the wiring diagram with the pickups but its all about wiring them to pots, and im wiring it to a preamp heres a pic of the actual pickup let me know what u think
  11. Just got some mew pickups and I need help Wires are as follows: Red, green, White, black and bare And all I know is I need a hot, a common and a ground Any one know what I should Also these are motherbuckers made by Armstrong
  12.
Hi Do you have a model number? Are they 4 string pickups? Thanks
They are a custom set but I'll check for a number And with Bartolini they pickups are bar magnets not poles so they aren't only compatible with one amount of strings, these work with any string width between 74mm-95mm Measure from your first to last string in width where the pickups go and if it's in between the 74mm-95mm I said then these will work Thanks
  13.
Hi all Have a quick question for you. I have 2 basses that I am thinking of upgrading the pick-ups on but the query is this - is it essential to have 2 pick-ups of the same make (ie. am getting 2 Quarter Pounder Seymour Duncans for my CV Jazz) but as my second bass is a cheap Ibanez, would I be better off with a jazz quarter pounder at the bridge & a split quarter pounder at the neck or two entirely different makes? Any help/input greatly received Pat
cant say i know much in this department but id say u can mix and match all you want, you see guitarist changing out only one pickup out of the 2 for something entirely different Id say it depends on what sound ur wanting but im sure someone who knows about this can give u proper advice best of luck
  14. Does no-one use the neck as a rest? i use the pickup, the neck, the strings and i float. all just depends what im doing but ive never really had to think about where my thumb goes :S
  15.
I was just wondering if its possible to convert my passive jazz into an active and would it really be worth the effort and cost?
im actually doing the opposite in my bass, im conveting it from active to passive as i plugged a jazz bass into my bass rig and it was the best sound ive heard in my life
  16.
Well i'm glad you like the sound of them. I think they're quite good (on the guitar) but of course they're not the most expensive of pickups so if i was rich they probably wouldn't be my first choice if you see what i mean.
expensive doesnt always mean the best, most expensive things are that price due to having a name for themself and if people only bought the expensive stuff then smaller named companies wouldnt take off and ive heard the armstrong pickups wired to a jack with no preamp and that sold it to me, plus the fact that they are uk based and can actually manufacture a custom pickup in my sizes. only one other company could do it and that was nordstrand, but they are american based and id have to wait for shipping and pay for shipping and import tax. but like i said i heard the ka pickups wired straight to a jack and the sound made me decide to not go for the nordstrand ones
  17. Just a small update for anyone interested my pickups will be shipped on monday so i should receive them sometime next week ive ordere shrink tube and copperfoil for shielding the cavity im getting a bit excited as it will be my first attempt at anything like this
