Hey Si, I've just done something similar; for the paint I popped into the local car-bits-and-pieces shop and bought some car painty stuff (http://www.hycote.co.uk/ -double acrylic as it turns out) which looks very nice on the pedal, and now I'm trying some waterslide decal paper for the details - http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/.-Inkjet-Water-Slide-Decal-Paper_151.htm - which so far it looks pretty good, and reminds me of making Airfix Aeroplanes. Don't know if that helps!

On the other hand, why not? You have a theory, its got to be worth a try, maybe you've struck on something that will have a subtle variation on your mix that you like, maybe you'll change the world of mixing as we know it. It might even make no difference whatsoever. Stranger things have happened; mixing is a creative art too. Re-rendering your files doesn't have to be distructive either, render to new files and keep the old ones safe. Nothing Ventured!!
