3.
It's all very personal. I don't like basses with scratchplates so I went for a standard NYC 5. I also prefer the slightly smaller body of the standard, being an NYC it's also chambered so much lighter than a Metro, mine weighs less than 8 1/2lbs. My bass # 4841 (Apologies for the crap photo) is transparent black over quilted maple. I chose an ebony fingerboard as, for this jazz style bass it has the tonal characteristics I was looking for*. I went with no face dots and chrome hardware. I later ordered a set of black hardware, but having seen it in the metal, feel the chrome finish looks classier. So it's all very subjective, both in looks and in the case of fingerboards, tone. My wife recently bought me a Dingwall Z2 as a wedding present, it has the dual density ash body with an ash top and a maple neck/fingerboard. Combine that with the position and series/parallel wiring of the pickups and it sounds totally different to my Sadowsky, far more "modern" and punchy compared to the still punchy, but smoother, Sadowsky. What type of music are you playing? Jazz? Rock? So, I'd say the looks are entirely subjective, look through the "previously sold" section of the Sadowsky website for ideas. However the models are physically different, the Vintage models are "full size" so are heavier than the standard models and have a scratchplates. The Ultra Vintage models have a smaller 9" radius fingerboard, closer to a Fender, whereas the standard has a flatter 12" radius. The fingerboard wood will have an influence on the instrument's tone, it's NOT just an aesthetic choice. So, which do you prefer? flatter or more radiused fingerboards, scratchplates or no scratchplates, full size or slightly undersize, what tone are you looking for, brighter or smoother? They are expensive instruments, worth every penny in my opinion, but have a clear idea of what you want the bass to sound and feel like as well as look like. Good luck! Kev
Cheers buddy some good points. Personally I love scratch plates, but all subjective and personal taste. I'm wanting a traditional looking jazz with the full side body so you're saying go for the vintage, what is the difference between Vintage and UV?
4. Had this kicking about a while. TC padded cover for RS410 no rips, tears, great condition. £25 shipped.
5.
What was Fred's favourite colour? As you're naming the bass after your dad, why not go a little further with the tribute?
That's a good thought, but I really have no idea, it's really not what a son talks to his father about or vica versa!
6. Not sure they do binding now. Blocks would be nice but more expensive again! Any pics?
7. Sherwood green is catching my eye atm I used to have a Lakland DPLE1 in Sherwood metallic. Obviously it would be 5 string, would a matching head stock on RW board make it look too dark? 8. I wonder if they would do a build pics/video? Loving some of the colour suggestions.
9. Yup a bit like that perhaps lighter with more grain showing! how do i spec' that to Sadowsky?
10. Can someone mock me up a natural (sadowsky vintage tint) 5 string with RW board and a tort guard i have no idea how to do that and cant find one on their site. pretty please.
11. As an aside the wife said, "of course, order it, you've had enough grief in your life lately, get it ordered if that's what you want" Love her to bits
12. Agreed has to be RW board on a Jazz, so that's one decision made cheers OHM
13. As you may know I have been wanting a NYC 5 Sadowsky for some time (see wanted postings) to no avail, had some offers but nothing that really ticked my boxes in full. The purchase was in memory of my late Father who left me some money, and I wanted to buy something that I could remember him buy rather than just fritter the money away. I have a Metro 4 that I have had for many years and love it to bits, but wanted a 5 string to complement it. The 5'er will be known as Five string Fred (my dads name). I have spoken at length with Kevin at Sadowsky HQ and mentioned the Will Lee 5 string neck being narrower and to my preference, he stated the WL neck dimensions could be specified to any NYC bass, but obviously missing the mid boost switch, which Im not too fussed about. So I intend to order: Now the big question, what colour? My Metro is Olympic white, but I have a hankering for a natural vintage tint, not sure on maple or RW board though, but would like other suggestions before I push the button! So please, suggestions and pic samples, feed my eyes and entertain my need to get it right. Over to you:

16. In reply: All BC410 cabs are all 4 ohms to my knowledge. And it weighs just 27kgs, a nice one cab solution for peanuts.
