Dial in any extra EQ on the desk.[/quote] Funnily enough, I tried both my punch factory and bass exciter on the last session, but found the (digitally) recorded signal to be highly coloured by the aphex DI in a way which the engineer really disliked. As I'll be working with the same producer/engineer team this time, I thought I'd have a look around for something different.

Howdy folks, I recently completed my first recording assignment (nothing flash, honest). For that job I just plugged my Overwater direct into the desk and whilst it sounded ok, I think I need a bit more beef next time around. I've another session coming up in January and have decided I [u]MUST[/u] have a preamp before then. I have been thinking about sticking a preamp/di box in my gig bag for a while and am thinking of (in no particular order); 1) Aguilar Tone Pump 2) Sansamp BDDI 3) EBS Microbass 4) SWR Marcus Miller Whilst my first choice is the SWR, the price is a little out of range given that Christmas is just over etc. Anybody using the other options regularly for recording? Also any other options I'm not thinking of?

That V1005 looks tasty. Might have to try to track one down for a look see.

I get nervous everytime, but not pukey nervous, just healthy "I'm human" nervous. I have a little routine for pub gigs. I make sure when I strap my bass on that I'm facing away from the audience. I play a couple of notes with the volume off just to clear the forearms and then tell myself "right, when you turn around, your the bass player that these unlucky folks have come to see, now get a grip and get on with it" (or words to that effect, expletives deleted etc). Works for me everytime. Funnily enough, on bigger gigs with intro tapes and a proper walk on from the wings type setup, I'm never nervous. I guess that I feel these gigs are less personal hence no anxiety?

About a year or so ago, I picked up an empty Schroeder 21012 cabinet for peanuts on good'ol eBay. The previous owner had removed the speakers for his own purposes so I replaced them with some Eminence Delta's from Blue Aran. For those of you who don't know, the 21012 is a 2x10 + 1x12 cab with the 12" on a slanted baffle. The cab was originally a 4 ohm model but I wanted 8 ohm as I planned on building a second similar cabinet for a small light but powerful stack. I put two 8 ohm Delta 10's in series to give 16 ohms in parallel with a Delta 12 16 ohm to bring the whole lot down to 8 ohms again and its been working fine. The only thing is, I couldn't work out how to wire in the horn or the crossover so I didn't bother. Now, however, I would like to wire these in hence the cry for help as the previous owner had disconnected all the wires. The crossover is marked SL-MB-2206, has +/- inputs and outputs and looks like this; The variable resistor controlling the amount of tweeter is marked AT-60H L-8 ohm, has three solder connections and looks like this; The tweeter unit has two wires coming out of it, one brown and one white. I can work out where the red lead from the crossover goes because of the red tail still attached to the variable resistor thingy, but as for the rest I'm in the dark. Can anyone help?

Hi Mate, Welcome into the daylight! I've got a 21012 which has a monstrous bottom end. Handles my low 'B' no problem and never gets flabby the way some 1x15's can. For comparison, I also have an SWR Goliath 4x10 + Son of Bertha 1x15 rig that I use with the same amp head (SWR750X) for bigger rock gigs. I am really considering getting a schroeder 4x10 to match up with the 21012 for a monster but relatively light weight rig. Back to your question though, and be careful with the idea of the 12+15. Remember that one speaker (the 15) is mounted on an angled baffle which means its sort of in a bin type arrangement. There are far more knowledgeable people on here who can explain the physics but the net effect is an apparent increase in bass response. WaterOfTyne on here used to use a 21012 as well and he likes a real old school thumping tone, but he's just moved to a Schro 410 because he found the 21012 to bass heavy (Correct me if I'm wrong mate). I can only imagine what a 1215 would sound like, but I would recommend trying both this and the 1212 before you part with any folding stuff.
