1. I have had my old Precision bass lying idle for the past few years after a 'accident' in Ripon North yorkshire (i'm sure one day it'll be one of those rock n roll hall of fame moments). Anyhoo to cut a long story short after not being able to put Artissans lovely lovely basses down at YBB i've decided i need to play one again. So over a long time im going to slowly build up my project.

BUT this may be a no go when i get a pro to check out the damage and see how bad/how much its going to be to repair if neede. (Crack from the neck plate area into to the body just below the top horn area).

So if it is clear for take off i am going to get it sprayed black - 3 ply BWB scratch plate - maple neck- chrome hardware.

Think i may put a cheeky bridge gaurd on it for pure asthetic reasons if i can play with it on. It has a J PUP and that is where i play.
So advise/tips/rule/bass fas paux i should look out for? Would the purists be outraged if i stuck a 70's neck plate and a 60's (just guessing) bridge on the same guitar?

and can you advise me on good/bad choices for -
    Neck
    Neck plate
    Machine heads
    Scratchplate
    Bridge
    P PUP
    J PUP
    Bridge cover
    Pots
    Knobs
    Nut

and anything else i've not thought about.

sorry if it all sounds a bit amatuer....that's coz i am!

    good day.

  2.
Can someone give me precise directions to the venue from the train station?

Also, If anyone's coming through Leeds (neer Burley Park), then I'd love a lift (petrol money included, of course)!
Get off the train at Hornbeam Park. One stop before Harrogate. Go up to the road and you want to be walking Up hill to the right. Then walk about 500-600 meters (houses on your left and grass/field on your right) and take your 4th left (hookstone ave) then abou 250m take your first left and you will see it infront of you.
    hope that helps.

A further bonus if you attend on the day is you get to see if I am as irritating in person as I am on this thread..... ;)
oh of course, i am already a marked man.

  4.
Just realised we're doing both bands tonight , inc the ZZ show , in Bradford - so when I turn up tomorrow don't be alarmed by my probable leprosy face !!

It's only the false beard glue (takes about 2 days to get off) and it's not catching!!!
smashing! i've just shaved myself a 'Geoff beard' but may trim it down to a handle bar. but at the end of the day i look the ginger fool and will prob just shave the fluff off.

*file under - grow up your too old to laugh at that.

  6.
Hey

I really need to try the Orange out. Has anyone got any soundclips? Ive heard the test demo from Orange on youtube but it doesnt really show it off.

Its between that, an Ampeg, or a Mesa 400+ if I can find one.

I used to like the hi fi sound...I still do...but it doesnt cut it for me through two massive stacks and a drummer. Gallien K sound great and precise...but I think id much prefer a traditional rock amp.
join the forum on the orange website, there's a thread with loads of souindclips on there

  7.
A visit to Godfrey & Twatt (fine ceramic ware, prints, wood and glassware) always puts a smile on my face.... ;)
it's been changed to Thaite or something, a bit gutted nothing else to enertain my southern friends on their anual vist now.

  8.
Hmmm... if it's anything like as good as the Git-arse Terror it'll sound great but break a lot...

Our guitarist has a TT and it sounds the mutt's nuts, but he's on his third head in about 8 months... Apparently Orange had a lot of trouble with transformers on the first batch out of Korea - I'd say if you're interested in one of these, give 'em a year to get the components sorted before you buy!

Having said that, everywhere we play the TT (through a Mesa 2x12) gets rave reviews from other 6-stringers and sound dudes alike, the thing is stoopid loud and sounds great. If they manage to pull off a similar trick with the bass version I'll definitely be looking into getting one.

And having read the TB thread on these, I'm reminded of just why I had given up on finding a decent bass-related forum... Those guys are all hyper-judgemental in a way that I can never understand. IME, it must be an american / 16-year-old thing...
yeah there was a product recall in the european market fo rearly batch just before xmas.

  9.
Orange amps rock!!!

All tho i'm biased in saying that as I endorse them, but seriously cool tube tone that's a little bit different to the Ampeg tube sound.

Sounds absolutely fat with a fender precision.

My rig - Orange AD200B 4X10 and 1x15 with a Lakland bob glaub or Fender jazz re-issue with quarter pounders

Going to pick up a tiny terro bass for a backup when they go into production.
so you have contacts at orange then? tell them to get a shift on as i want to try the terror bass or they'll get a dry slap. ;)

  10.
Youre not going to get a vlave head and cab for 600, you might be able to geet an amoeg v-4 for 600 but thats, it. You could get a hartke vx2x15 and a hartke lh500 for around that much. Its got a nice little tube in the preamp which is really nice.
not stictly cab and amp. i'll see what comes along first then get either a cab or head on Take It Away intrest free credit over 9 months. jobs a good un.

  11. where to start? where to finish? i think i'll just lie down till something comes along.

i'll start again. I need to shift into gear and buy some semi decent wing wang this year. not had a decent set up for about 3 years. i'm going to spend about 600clams. Need a slightly light cab, 2x15 (light? yeh right) maybe, but last week it was a 2x12. and a nice head. if i can get a nice valve head then great however im may wait till the bass terror comes along. but i really will consider most set ups.
Just about to get my bonus may aswell spend it before it's too late.
chuck up some ideas for me.

  12.
Apparently the new Orange gear will be available around mid-June. That'll include the Bass Terror.
bum snoggers i was hoping to snag one before april.
