1.
And another jam organised by the same people is on near the Barbican, very near to Islington, at The Smithfield Tavern. I usually play there and they have a shortage of bass players so you'd definitely get on at least once.
Sounds interesting, what night is that one?

    Pete.

  2. Hi James,

Many thanks for the kind comments!
You're not the first to say the toms sound naff so I need to see what I can do with this lol. I wasn't sure abour the 'spoken part' ghosting effect but the singer loves it. You mention having one of them in a far detached acoustic space. any advice on how to achieve this?

    Again, thanks for the feedback.

    Anyone else care to comment?

    Pete.

  3.
just found a pic....

Ooh I had one of them back in the 80s and the matching 2x15" 300W cab. What a pile of sh*te that setup was :)
Don't think Carlsbro designed the cab, just threw it together with odd bits of wood they found lying around. My farts have more low end

Then they had the nerve to put an XLR socket on it so they could call it pro (and charge a few more quid) and a warning about sounds levels of 115dB making you physically sick - might have got that sound level for a nanosecond before it exploded with a 10kW amp
The only sick feeling I had was the first time I heard it at rehearsal and the bottom driver failed.

Saying that, the amp itself wasn't so bad when put through a reasonable cab.

  4.
Well, I've just got my hands on this stuff and I'm pretty sure its going back in the box and then probably into the bin.
Probably won't be room due to the crap in there from the shop down stairs :)
Some good info in this thread.

    Pete.

  5. Our gig tonight has been cancelled because the landlord hasn't paid (or can't afford to pay) his electricity bill and had his power cut off yesterday

A sign of the times I'm sure, and he'll no doubt be oofed out by the brewery soon - that will mean another venue down the pan.
That's not changed .. fill a pub with a good show, get booked back; play originals (with that normal attitude originals bands seem to have), draw 20 people, no booked back...
It's always been better to book a covers band if you want to sell beer and stay in business, even more so right now ..
We play originals and so far have been booked back at our gigs :)
The gigs are getting fewer and fewer though because of venues shutting.
Perhaps you have a point

  6.
Anyone's else's first bass line Love Song, Public Image, Peaches or Warhead?
Yep to Warhead also Gotta Getaway - SLF.

What about Paul Gray from Eddie & the Hotrods? Also played in the Damned in the 80's (and UFO after that but I'm not a UFO fan :) )

  7. The first few tracks of our new album are now on last.fm.

    The Learning Curve

The tracks were recorded and mixed using a Roland VS-2400 V Studio.
Bass (MM Stingray) is straight into the VS
Guitar straight in from a Behringer V-Amp
Vocals into the VS using a Behringer B-1 mic
Drums were recorded in a studio using Pro Tools but EQd and FXd on the Roland

Have a listen and let me know what you think?
It's my first proper attempt at mixing so be gentle with me! :)

  8.
I managed to get to Nicks place last year, really nice bloke and a wonderful place. sorry to hear of his loss, if there is another bass event there next year count me in.
+1

I couldn't agree more. Nick made us all feel really welcome, a really genuine and friendly guy.
It's sad to hear about him losing his wife, I hope his music will get him through it.
Keep us posted Steve, looking forward to another bash at such a spectacular location.

    Pete.

  9.
I know it's a massive longshot but am having problems with my amp and have a gig tomorrow night.. can anyone lend me a combo or 8ohm cab for the night? Can return it sunday morning...
    Payment in beer? :)

    Thanks in advance
I've got a Yamaha 8ohm 2x12 cab you could borrow that would hopefully get you by (my 4x10 is gigging with me Sat night) but I might be a bit too far away in South Derbyshire.

    Let me know,

    Pete.

  10. The Learning Curve are playing at the Royal Oak, Market Place, Burton on Trent on Friday 1st August at 9pm and Saturday 30th August 9pm.
Would be great to see some fellow chatters turn up if there are any in the area!

    Cheers,

    Pete.
