1. Haha, we took that transcription and scribbled chords down on it yesterday with jazz trio, slowed it down and swung it, certainly makes for very interesting lounge-style music!
2.
here's the chart I'm working from - enjoy !
Yeah, thanks for all of the advice guys! I think that I forgot to mention that this was my first real transcription of a bass part, and I actually learned it by ear before writing it down, so the ease of reading it never really occurred to me, so I just wrote in in whatever way seemed 'neatest'. I definitely will make a stab at learning the whole thing off this chart ^, and maybe just pretend in my head to play all of those runs Thanks.
3. Yeah, I don't actually own a 5 string, so it was a little depressing playing those Eb, E, F's
4. I really like this track, and it's got some great playing on it by the big man himself. This took me an hour or two, and had to resort to slowing it down to catch those crazy runs! I wasn't sure what he was playing a one or two parts, mainly the triplet, where I just stuck in the root Please tell me any suggestions/improvements! I'll have a midi file up soon.
5. Is there any advantage in having a bridge like this?
6. I gave a friend of mine my iPod a couple of months ago to 'revamp' with some nice music. Along with some great classical stuff (he's a trumpeter bloke), I got so much great jazz! First go on shuffle, you've all heard it, Cannonball Adderly quintet with Joe Zawinul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRrFWp4DUho...feature=related And then the Birdland Big Band (featuring Tommy Kennedy!) playing 'Common Ground'. Favourite Big Band, favourite bassist!
7. Oh, and my strings are currently 45-65-80-100 gauge Super Slinky's, thanks.
8. I've just put on new strings, stupidly thinking that it'd maybe give me more string tension, but it so didn't! What gauge should I buy, so that it'll be increased, but without having to change the nut/damage the bass etc? Thanks
9. I bought Mixcraft 5 last month, love it! Great feature for slowing down tracks, without adjusting the pitch. If you've used Garageband, Logic etc, it's pretty similar, easy to get used to! Full feature 30-day free trial too!
10. Er, I played on a Behri ALU 410 (450 watt) today, and it was awful! I couldn't get a nice sound out of it after fiddling about with it for about twenty minutes, actually asked for my monitor to be turned up and the amp down because I hated it so much! Bad hiss, and just generally awful... I've heard decent guitar amps, but never played a good bass amp by them.
11. I've only ever transcribed a piece of music when doing an arrangement for school or just for fun, usually altering the style e.g. Phil Collins 'In the Air' swung for a lounge jazz style setup. But I've realised that it's really good ear training, so I've decided to tackle 'Not Yet' by Michel Camilo, with those amazing lines by Anthony Jackson!
12. Squier Jazz Musicman Sterling Fender MIM Fretless + Audere JZ3 preamp... Not a great list, but I'm young! I actually intend not to buy any others, unless the value of old bass guitar magazines increases exponentially, in which case I will buy a Fodera, Tom Kennedy Emporer II style... =D
13. I was nearly getting a gig up at the Derry Jazz Festival today... gutted!
14. I still do enjoy watching the show, because sometimes you discover something new or unexpected. But other times, I have it on just in the background, just in case I miss something good! I anxiously anticipated the jam between Jools and Bootsy Collins, which did, unfortunately end up being an anticlimax... 15. Yeah, my reading should be fine (Gareth may dispute this), and we'll have 1 or maybe two band rehearsals, and a dress rehearsal before the two nights, it should be grand
There's quite a few stings that are only one or two bars long and they can be quite tricky - blink and you'll miss 'em! Also the incidental/scene change type music is pretty short, as are the big production numbers.
You mean like, the generic scene change music is in the live show? Like a playoff? I love that stuff! The movie recording is all digital computer work, so I'll hunt down a soundtrack on Spotify somewhere, thanks!
16. I put a fresh battery in there when installing. Well, you get these metal sleeves that you cover the two ends of the wires with, crimp them with wide gauge pliers, cover in a heatshrink sleeve, and heat with a lighter or matches.
17. Yeah, I crimped and heatshrunk those wires together. It's actually not much of a big deal, as it only happens with my home practice amp and one other, no effect at all on any other, thanks anyway, I'll have a look next time I'm replacing the battery.
18. Hey, I'm pretty free to do anything, on fretted or fretless, shows music, reading gigs, anything! I'm young, and looking to get as much experience as possible! I don't expect pay... well, not much =L
19. Yeah, so last week I was asked to play for an amateur production of High School Musical in a month's time. I accepted for several reasons: 1. The guy doing MD is a close friend 2. I know some of the other guys doing it, a brilliant drummer and solid brass players (buds too) 3. It goes down as 'experience' on my University entry form for a music degree I was just curious to see if anyone else had played for a stage production of it, what I should expect the music to be like etc. I have asked for minimal pay just to cover expenses e.g. my dad's petrol money etc. I know that as it's amateur, it may be Northern Irish teen screeching out with their badly done American accents, but are there any good aspects of the show? Thanks
20. I installled an Audere JZ3 preamp in my fretless Fender MIM, and it's great! The only problem is that I get a slight crackle and hum on some amps when I touch the preamp controls? Any ideas? I took time to make sure that no wires crossed during installation, but I might have missed something. Cheers. Here's a link to a picture of the same model of JZ3 if your interested http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9619/038uf7.jpg
