So how was your day?

I have owned approx 15-20 5 string JBs. Lets see: a Nordy, 3 Lulls (M5V and an M5), 2 Sadowsky (UV), 5 or so Fenders (tried hard to like them, never found one that was tight for me), 4 van der Ends (custom builder in Holland, great instruments), 2 de Gier (this is my second; first was Alder bodied) and maybe 1 or 2 I cannot remember. It ranks high in this list, for you to decide what you want to take from it.

The total number of basses owned is not too relevant, if they were all very bad basses the number would not say anything about the quality of the instrument.

It was not a recommendation, it was me being happy with a new bass. I will gladly make a recommendation though dependent on what you are looking for though. I see you like GBs, very good basses. A little 'hot' for my taste, but very good.

Taste and opinion are one's own, I am a happy bunny.

Hi, I had Nordstrands in my other de Gier too.

They are quite similar, i.e. reasonably "aggressive" or growly sounding when digging in, but the Lollars have more pronounced low mids. This is very handy if you have a naturally scooped tone due to wood selection (ash, maple) and want a little more balance.

I felt I needed this due to the ash giving very powerful lows mainly and I wanted to ensure the sound would cut.

An Alder body with Nordies will give a very similar tone, although I like the top end a little more in the Lollars, they seem smoother.... All this said the bass is so new, it still needs breaking in before I can really comment in full detail and for me they are both in the same general corner of the pickup spectrum and very close.

One thing I really like about the Lollars is that they are a little more even across the strings, mainly due to the staggered pole pieces. One of the reasons I chose them, but Norstrand makes staggered pickups too now I believe.

Very close call, I think in an Alder bodied bass I would probably have gone Nordies. For Ash bodies I am now a Lollar convert. Fralin and Aero (the two other options de Gier gives) I would not choose in any combo, but hey taste and all......

Same here, wouldn't be without it. Yes it is a little bulky, like any double bag is, I walk with it regularly with 2 basses and a pedaltrain, absolutely fine.

I used to own a Rockbag Double Bag, very good for the money but not close to the M80.

Wait was very doable too. De Gier builds in batches, I ordered it end of April but he did not start until early/mid June, so really just over a month to build. Over the years he has been able to automate some of the "coarse" work and that speeds things up. Paint and fine wood work is what takes the time. His full on custom one offs take more time I am sure....

Anyway, the neck is super comfortable, really thin but because it is quite wide it feels very solid. Love the banjo frets on it.

The reason I went for Lollars is because the offset the slight mid scoop the woods give. Aeros would have made it too woolly, Nordies too aggressive in the highs.

Having spent an evening with my new friend, I have made the right choices for what I want.

Another cool feature I have found and am playing around with: the tone know is push pull and selects between 2 capacitors the standard 0.47 uF (am I missing a 0?) and slightly less standard 0.22 uF. The difference is subtle, but when you roll back on treble the 0.22 is a little rounder, the 0.47 a little more muddy. Gives quite a different tone when palm muting. Cool little trick on what for all intents and purposes is a passive bass.

Very very happy.

Wow, mine was around the same. Prices clearly exploded. Still, a very good softcase on par with my Mono bags and they cost even more.

That would be a wise decision. I have owned a lot of amps and the RB series is up there with the very best of them at a much lower price point.

I am still amazed by the heft for lack of a better on these amps.

I could have saved myself a lof of money if I had bought an RB when I first started my tonal quest. Would have saved me lots of money, buying and selling Full Tube, Hybrids and SS amps.

You can buy them from most online store as well, the above will come from China (and be really cheap). They are called female to male splitter/Y cables.

So I am going a bit more modular, got myself a Novo 18 for the use always and a Nano + for the use sometimes FX array.

This means my trusty PT-3 can go to another owner.

It has definitely been used but still a lot of life left in the old bird....... The board is still perfectly fine, just some holes in the bottom where the Power Supply was fixed and the off scuff. Velcro still in perfectly working order. The soft case is used but in decent nick. All zippers are perfectly functional, so are the handles and straps. The only thing worth mentioning probably are 2 spots on the underside of the case where the material is damaged, both 5 pence sized spots. Probably good to "at some stage" have your missus, nan or mum sow on some more material.

Lots of life in it, even if you don't address the 2 wear spots.

Size is 24x16 inches, which means you have 2 Boss sized rows + a single row for a looper/switcher. Fits roughly 15 pedals.

Comes with the brackets to fit a Voodoolab PP2 and I will throw in enough velcro for a decent amount of pedals.

The PT3 SC is 80 quid new, selling for half price at 40 + 7 (shipping) = 47 quid shipped (with track and trace) anywhere in Western-Europe/UK.

Great amps, hope it works out. Fender absolutely annihilated GB within a few years.... as they did with Ovation, Hamer, Sabian and SWR. I understand GB perhaps will return under new management/ownership and Jeff Genzler (like Dan Lakin before him) apparently is working on some great stuff. Yeah to the small business model and down with corporately run "music"
