Personally, I wouldn't mess with a Fender but I would and have built my own FenderAlike bitzas so I didn't begger up a real one, whatever it's age.
Usually works out cheaper in the long run, too. -

I don't mind it. From what the guy says, it had been wrecked by someone who had tried to do it by sticking plastic triangles to it and wanted it done properly...
It sounds like a previous owner had tried to make it look like a Zemaitis...
Never been done before?

And how much is that Zemaitis worth, I wonder, if it's for sale? -
Any nooze yet, please?

Merci bien, Clarky.

There's Crack Converters just down from the church
Cash Creators (Which has a nice Pre-CBS Mustang bass in the window for £799 - is this a bargain?)

If it is original and in reasonable nick, yes. -
Interesting thread, but can I give another perspective and name names........................ I stress I have no affiliations or vested interests only a superb experience to relate.
In 2005 I sold off a load of my gear to invest in one really good playable guitar.
Having acrued a reasonable sum I then started to look around for what I wanted and ended up in a shop about a 2 hour drive from home.
I was left in peace whilst browsing and when I asked to try a particular guitar it was taken off the wall, checked over and cleaned off by the staff and I was installed, on my own, in the amp room with the door shut and allowed to play the guitar through any amp I wanted.
10 minutes later I had made up my mind to purchase and asked to do so.
The guitar was taken from me, thoroughly checked over again by the owner of the shop, cleaned again and to my astonishment the truss rod was tweaked to "suit my playing style" all this whilst a mug of much needed tea was produced for me along with a lot of good natured banter from the staff.
As I was about to leave I was also offered a special amp at a good price.
I tried the amp , did the deal and returned with funds the following week to collect it and subsequently bought a second much cheaper guitar at the same time.
The shop was Machine Head Music in Hitchin and the owner was Geoff Pumfritt who retired a few months later.
He is now out of retirement and running a wonderful shop in Stonehouse, Glos.
I have never experienced such amazing customer service before or since and I would recommmend anyone to try him just to prove that there are a lot of good'ns still out there. -

Will do, but give me a day or two to assemble and set up, please?
Her Highness has me decorating the hall and stairs.............. -
Just got my refinished Mustang body from TJC Guitars in Stevenage.
Superb Job, Great Price and Terry is a good bloke too!
Highly recommended - thanks Lozz. -
Welcome!
Good to hear from people in SC - bought my old Mustang Bass from a guy named Booger in Rock Hill a long time ago.
Need to get out there again to get some strings at sensible prices. -

Head down and got on with it having ensured that "Sleepy Time" was dropped from the set - I wasn't 'arf focussed, though. -
Jack Bruce at a Sunday evening pub gig out in the Suffolk sticks.
Brown trouser time as we were a typical '60s blues band. -
Yup - a long, long time ago.
-
Wonderful - brought back memories of Chemistry lessons when me and my mate used to pore over it on the back bench wondering how we could get the cash to buy a guitar AND an amp!
-
PM sent - slot saddles were on the original MIJ '51.

Thing is, my HA5000 is two separate power amps. If I only use one cab, one power amp is running with no load on it. This is the case for the majority of its life.
Perhaps the non running amp is automatically switched out of circuit, but then again, with todays technology anything could be happening.
I always err on the side of caution with amps having had one blow mid gig at a major outdoor festival because a silly sound engineer tripped over my speaker lead and disconnected it. Resulted in costly serious damage to the output stage of the amp. -
Exactly what you have done.
"Basically, the person in charge of the band is a colossal tool" is your description of him and as you feel that way I can't see how you can work positively with him on any level, I couldn't if those were my thoughts.
You are supposed to enjoy music, eh? -
"NEVER NEVER NEVER switch on an amp without speakers or a dummy load connected."
A drummer bloke who built amps in Hanwell told me that. -
Great looking bass you lucky boy - what model and age?
What is the book in the background? From what little I can read with my eyes, it looks interesting. -
Yup - that's the man.
Thank you...... -

Back before Christmas I found a recommendation on BC for a refinisher/relicer somewhere in the home counties and I've lost all details and e-mails since - can't even remember his name (Andy?) due to me catching a 'flu type bug caught in December.
What I can remember is that he came across as quite a character in the e-mail correspondance - bit like me, doesn't like the modern world and the new rules etc........
A few years ago I bought a refinished 60s bass which still looks as if it has a brand new body and as it is fitted with all its original hardware it looks daft and I would like to tone it down a bit - the guy I was in contact with said to call after Christmas.
Help - any ideas who or recommendations, please?

Probably around $50,000.
Edit: One for $40,000 here... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ebb366b5a

Ed Zachary........
because the guitar was made from scratch by master luthier Tony Zemaitis and not someone who took a an old guitar to a superb craftsman for an "upgrade".
Why didn't the client buy an original Zemaitis, Greco Zemaitis or Alden Zalike instead?
Each to his own, I suppose...............
