I went for the Demeter Tremulator in the end, as used by Nick Valensi of the Strokes and originally built for Ry Cooder by Mr. Demeter. Very quiet pedal and it has a blue LED, cool

On it's own, or possibly combined with chorus as well. Doesn't have to be bass specific, but work well with bass.

Hello, i was changing my avatar and i noticed it doesn't update it in the posts (it does in 'my control'). What it does, is just resize my original avatar (not replace it) to the size of the newly uploaded avatar, hence why it's a bit distorted at the moment. Any ideas what's up? ta

Pedal-wise, i'd say a Sansamp Bass Driver with the 'Drive' cranked (drive on this pedal doesn't add distortion/overdrive, but it does add a bit of bite/growl) and also the 'Blend' knob bias towards the effected signal more than your original bass signal. You'd be able to get this tone with most basses, certainly with a P bass or jazz. Oh and Volume helps

Amp-wise (solid state), a Tech 21 Landmark series Bass amp can muster a good variation of sounds, from clean to Tool/King's X/Jesus Lizard type distortion.

I use the Edirol R-09. The built-in stereo mic is great for recording a band in a room for example. However, it can be a bit 'hissy' if you're recording say just a single voice, for example spoken word. I'd recommend plugging in a mic for that kind of thing. I think it's great for informal recordings though and highly portable/pocketable and very light.

The Zoom H4 has a few more pro features, like XLR inputs, but i here the pre-amps aren't that great. It's also a bit bigger. Precision wins for me, easily. I had a Geddy Lee but it was too damn quiet, i had to sell it. Just not powerful enough.

I had a very good '99 MIM Jazz, which i bought back then. It was decent. In fact, for me, it was better then the Geddy Lee. THe GL just looked better.

Perhaps give it a set up and see how it plays over time. Otherwise, go for what feels right. Alternatively sell the S1. I used to have a good few guitars. I remember having no problem selling my US Fender Stratocaster as they're a dime a dozen.
