  1. I like 410s but would the 115 compact and 210 compact be a good alternative, particularly if i want to get the most out of the amp? Does anyone have this set up? I'd love to hear your thoughts on its sound. I wish i could A/B the two set ups but sadly shops are pretty crap.

  2. For that money i would say look in the second hand market, particularly if you are looking for 'all valve.' The SVT 3Pro has valves in the pre-amp and driver tubes, but the power amp is solid state. The 450H is all SS. I'm guessing th GK is SS too.

  3. I'm considering paying a visit to the Bass Gallery at some point soon and potentially spending big bucks for a new rig (head and cab). Those of you who have shopped there, are you likely to get a good deal when spending well over a grand there? Is there any chance of finding a price i'd be content with, if you know what i mean. Their prices don't look great, to be honest. It would be cheaper online, however i like the personal approach.

    Any experience/thoughts appreciated.

  4. I'm glad i'm not alone here. Not that i thought i was.
I hate it when the promoters take the, you have to share angle. They do sod all work as it is, in my experience. They only want to to do less, as they count your audience's money come in. As someone else mentioned, if things start on time, it should all run fine. Only arrogant/inconsiderate bands put spanners in the works.

  5. I've been reading up on this head (the cased one, not the RC version), with regards to what cabs compliment it. It comes as no surprise that ABM cabs are most likely to get the nod. I have a question though. The head is 575W @ 4 ohms, yet the ABM 410 cab, for example is 600W @ 8 ohms, according to the Ash site. Am i right in thinking you won't therefore be getting the most out of the head? (with regards to power). And shouldn't the ohm rating match, seeing as they're from the same series?

Edit: i guess you can have to 8 ohm cabs running.

  6. I love cool little valve amps and boutique FX. I picked up guitar first in my teens, so i still GAS over them. I'm having serious valve bass head GAS at the moment, as i see a new rig on the horizon. I'll often get bass GAS, naturally. I do like gear.

I quite like shoes too, if i'm out and about and see a cool pair... ^_^

  7. I'd love to take it off your hands, but i don't have a car. Train would be a bit tricky, unless i had one of those 2 wheely things, which come to think of it, i ought to invest in if i get a head.
Have a bump on me in the meantime.

  8. I was just wondering what sets these two heads apart. I'm not talking cosmetically, nor the fact that one is from the SVT range and the other, from the B series.

Both are solid state and have exactly the same power rating etc (450w @ 4 Ohms). I have noticed however the B2-RE's power amp is MOSFET, while the 450's is 'Solid State'. How do the two differ? Is Mosfet less powerful?

Otherwise, they have exactly the same features. Does the price difference relate to the SVT badge and the housing alone? Is anyone able to enlighten me, as this one has bugged me for a while now. Thank you.

  9. Hello. I'm looking for some advice. On the not too distant horizon, i quite fancy getting a new bass rig, made up of a SS head and very likely, a 4x10 cab.

I currently gig with an Ampeg BA500 combo, which is essentially an SVT350H combined with a 2x10. At rehearsals however, i use a 4x10 cab and i much prefer the output. To be specific, its an Ampeg B2RE head and i think, a Bseries 4x10.
I like the Ampeg sound and vibe. I play Fenders and Gibsons and i like the tone through Ampegs. My dream rig would be a SVT Classic head with an 8x10, which i once used at a gig (hired rig). I could fork out for this set up, however the logistics put it out of the question: weight, size and too pro for my non-pro band, at this point in time.

So, my thoughts are an Ampeg head, most likely solid state and because i like the vintage vibe/look, possibly an Aguilar DB410 cab. I love the silver face/grille you see. Looks-wise, it's more interesting to me, than matching it up with a b-series or SVT cab.

I like simplicity, so the less knobs, switches and channels, the better. I'm not a fan of graphic equalisers either. 3 dial rotary eqs are just fine with me.
So, my example would be an Ampeg B1RE (300 watts @ 4 ohms) and an Aguilar DB410 (700 watts @ 4 ohms). What jumps out at me however, is the difference in wattage. Could it be too great?
Does anyone have any experience with mixing the two brands or indeed have any other combination suggestions. I'm reasonably flexible. The key is simple, loud and classic/retro essentially.

As ever, those in the know, please dispense your knowledge forthwith. :) Ta.

  10. Man, the amount of times i get bands asking to use my/our equipment on the night. At the last gig we ALL lent our gear out and we're talking expensive gear, Handmade/wired Hiwatt guitar amp, my Ampeg bass amp etc..

I asked the guy where he came from (perhaps they're from out of town, fair enough). London, was the answer. Riiiight. I thought. We don't have a van, he said. Neither do i FFS! i spend money on a cab, to and from the damn venue, to get me and my gear there!!! For what, so i can supply my gear for some "can't be arsed" idiot?!?! THIS really gets my goat.
