    He was absolutely inspiration at the London Bass Guitar Show a couple of years ago. I felt I had really learned something from his Masterclass. I was rembering it only this week, when I found myself playing a reggae bass line at a local jam, and I was thinking 'What can I drop out to make this more effective? What happens if I just play on the one and the three? How about just on the one?' Just dropped it back until I was barely playing at all.

    Got loads of compliments afterwards. All thanks to Mr Wobble.

    I stopped off in Cleethorpes last February , en route to Scarborough. It was so bloody freezing I had to buy some extra clothing. It was also pretty deserted. I loved it.

    I sat in a really nice fish restaurant and had fish n chips completely on my own. All the funfairs etc were closed. It had a wonderful ghostly atmosphere.

    I love English seaside towns in winter.

    Where Is Skegness?

    I went there for the first time last April. Skegness itself is a bit scummy. But only a short walk down the coast and you have beautiful deserted beaches, sand dunes, wildlife parks, all sorts of birds.

    I really loved it. It's great if you like tramping along windswept beaches, listening to birds and watching clouds scudding overhead. But I suppose it might be a bit grim if it was pouring with rain.

    It seems like a perfectly valid question to me, and doesn't come across as some sort of value judgement. There may be all sorts of reasons why people choose not to gig. Maybe they just love the instruments themselves, or the technology. Maybe they just like playing along to music they really love, but would be a bit shy about performing.

    Maybe they write their own stuff and put it online, but don't actually perform it live.

    Would it be any use to find out? Probably not, but it would be interesting. This is a chat forum after all. Think of it as chatting to people, finding out what motivate them, why they wouldn't want to perform and, yes, what life challenges might prevent them from performing (should anyone wish to share)

    Don't feel upset Brig. I thought this would be an interesting thread to read and felt sad you were getting flak so soon :-(

    Do we play bass guitars the wrong way round?

    Thus is why I decided to play a right handed bass, even though I'm left handed.You have to do complex stuff with both hands, so I reckoned I might as well be rubbish with my picking hand rather than rubbish with my fretting hand.
    Still can't use a pick though, and I reckon I never will. Just not dextrous enough with my right hand.

    Lessons with a fantastic tutor. He taught me from scratch. Five years in and I still have a lesson every 2 to 3 weeks. I'm currently playing in a Stones covers band, and I learn all the songs from sheet music (if available) or by listening to the CD. But my teacher shows me things I wouldn't play with the band - jazz and soul for example.

    I love my lessons. I find them really inspiring. If ever I'm in a rut, or feeling a bit bad about my playing, a lesson with Mark always gives me a little boost and a return to practising with more enthusiasm

    I don't think I'll ever stop going for lessons. There's always something new to learn. Even if Mark stopped teaching (or got out a restraining order, lol), I think I'd find another teacher. I love the personal interaction.

    I do realise I am lucky to have the time and the money for them though.

    Edited to read 'Covers band' rather than 'Tribute Band'. I don't dress up as Bill Wyman, lol :-)

    Only this morning a somewhat embarrassing video appeared on Facebook, featuring glimpses of me dancing enthusiastically to a friend's band's rendition of'You Never Can Tell'. At least I didn't attempt a stage invasion.

    Amazing. I had to pinch myself to believe I was seeing that in a School hall in Addlestone on a Saturday afternoon. Herbie Flowers is a total one off. What an incredible character.

    It was a great day. As others have said, best one yet.

    Croatian Music

    I'm here on holiday in Croatia and watching CMC TV in my room. So far, it's all been clean cut young men singing Eurovision type songs on beaches, or 80's style 'rawk'.

    Each genre entertaining enough in its own right. But I was wondering if there are any crucial Croatian bands I should be seeking out.

    I think we might have at least one Croatian BCer. Is CMC TV a fair reflection of the Croatian Music scene? Or is there more to it than that?
