Andy Fraser, he didn't even have to play to look cool. Effortless.

See here, perhaps the greatest ever "cool" performance by a rock band imho

    This.

  2. I usually stay in Walton on Thames and get the train up from there. Looks like there is going to be engineering works which will make it impossible to get the overground from Clapham Junction to Olympia! Bugger.

I'm now looking at perhaps staying in Richmond. Train from there to Wilseden Green and then overground.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else is thinking of getting the overground from Clapham Junction.

  3. So glad I got to see them last year. Status Quo were such a huge part of my teenage years. Dancing to 'Down Down' at the local rowing club disco remains one of my happiest memories. Plus seeing Rick jamming incognito at a pub in Staines some time in the eighties. What a privelage to catch that.

  4. And how the heck did that bass player from Freddie Bell and the Bell Boys manage to do all those dance moves whilst playing? It looked to me as though he really was playing, not miming.

I googled them afterwards and discovered his name was Frankie Brent. What a performer!!

  5. I usually try to talk to the bass player after a gig, just to say 'well done, wherr are you playing next' etc. I don't tend to ask if they're on BC and I never talk gear unless they do.

I've always tried to go up to at least one band member and thank them if I've enjoyed the gig, from long before I ever picked up a bass myself. I was almost put off continuing to do this after a thread on here where several individuals professed to feeling awkward when punters talked to them, or finding it tiresome in one way or another.

But eventually I thought 'sod it, life's too short, if I want to compliment someone I will' And hope that deep down inside they actually appreciate it in some way.

  6. Well done on nailing Stay with Me. That one's on my bass playing bucket list. I've attempted to learn it, but it ain't easy is it?

It's a brilliant song, and I would love to play it with an all girl band, and change the words to 'I know your name is Peter' Haha :-)

  7. Cracking gig with the Stones covers band at our usual venue. Singer/band leader had decided he wanted us to do some of the lesser known album tracks. The rest of us had misgivings, but it turned out to be a great success. The venue is a very small music club in Brum. Packed out with friends, family and regular punters who know and love their music. I don't think we could have got away with it anywhere else, but this crowd really appreciated the unusual set list.

I loved it. Got to play stuff that I probably won't have a chance to again. My favourite being Torn and Frayed off the Exile On Main St album. We had rehearsed for weeks, so I felt really confident. The atmosphere was fantastic, people dancing and cheering.

Afterwards I got loads of compliments about my playing from several of the regulars who have been watching my progress since I first started going to jams there a couple of years ago. I felt really chuffed. I've been playing for five years now, but I still have to pinch myself sometimes to believe I am actually doing it. I'm playing bass in a rock band!!!! Woo hop!!!

    Edit
That was supposed to read Woo Hoo, but I'm not going to correct it as Woo Hop has a certain charm, lol
