1.
I'm glad to here that: That it became a piece of piss. It's not the sort of thing I'd normally be interested in playing, but it seems I've got till the 8th December to learn it! My 11 year old is drumming for it in a concert put on by his drum teacher, and I've been volunteered to play bass for him. His teacher (who also teaches bass) says that its not so much difficult as relentless. From where I'm standing it sounds both difficult and relentless!!

Having cracked it, do you have any hints for someone who's still at the stage of listening to it to get the feel of it into my head?

    Clive.
I've tabbed out the main verse using a couple of possible fingerings - the way I think Chris Wostenholme (?) plays it and the way I prefer to play it.

PM your e-mail address and I'll send it over

  2. It's understandible. You've picked up a load of new skills and techniques and you're keen to show them off. I'm not being patronising when I say that I used to be just the same. In one band I used to be in, I used to overplay so much it was offensive.

I would counter that overplaying os worse than underplaying. By underplaying you're not adding anything to the song. When you verplay you detract from the song.

  3. The only bass I've played with Piezo and magnetic pickups was an Ibanez EDA900. ThePiezo makes the bass sound very 'zingy' but I don't remember it making the harmonics stand out that much more.

I don't know of any aftermarket piezo bridgesthat are a standard retro fit on a Fender. You'd also need to do some routing to the body for the preamp required by the piezo pickups. So,with all the mods required, A jazz pickup by the bridge would be an easier and more standard option.

Masked Jackal. Quality Tune. Any of you guys heard Martyr - Feeding the Abcess.

Liege of Inveracity is one of the best album openers of all time.

  5. Very good clip by the way. I thick playing a fretless suits his sounds. I remember reading an old intervew where he said he sets the EQ on his Hartke to an unhappy face - you can hear how wellit cuts through! I've never played a Warwick Thumb. Is it just me or are the necks THAT thick?

  6. The only ropey bit of his playing was the dodgy intonation on the high chorus part at the end. My problem with the performance is that it suffered from the usual Later with Jools Holland blight of being overblown and over-embellished. The original was performed by one of 'the' power trios, so the army of backing singers of percussionsts kind of ruins the feel.

  7. If you have an ebay account, then a good way to ascertain market value is to do a search for completed listings of whatever item it is you wish to sell. Items tend to go for around the same amount, give or take a few quid.

    How Long?

Anything in particular you want in trades I have quite a few drive pedals but I'd consider them worth more than 2 speaker cables

Got a Prescription Electronics Depth Charge if that is any use to you?
These aren't any old speaker cables :) . If I'd paid the going rate for them, they'd have cost me around £80 each. That said, I'd have been a total mug to pay that. I got them from Andertons a few years ago when they bought all of the distributors stock. I paid around £35 each for them.
That hole on the edge looks very much like it's been for a jack socket - I can't think of a reason why a P would have that done, other than using the original jack hole in the plate for an additional pot - perhaps because of an extra pickup. Makes me very worried what kind of nightmare excavation might be hidden under the scratchplate.

If he lets it go for under £500 then it would be a good project bass. Stick a jazz pickup in it and either go for vol/vol/tone with a side mounted jack, or go the whole hog and bung a nice Audere 3Z preamp in it.

  10.
just had this on in the background kinda thing, and i saw the intros, and one of the bands has a row of hartke cabs in front of the drummer, no joke, like 5 in a row...

    could be interesting?
One of the bands? One of the bands? That's Jack Bruce you're talking about. Actually, I caught the last few bars of Sunshine of your love and thought it was pants.
