I have said it before, I think those Rumble cabs add a lot to the sound..
I have DI'd my Rumble combo for recording but much prefer the sound I get when the cab is mic'ed up.

The sound of the bass is coming from Rumble 100 directly but not properly mic'ed up. Recorded with Zoom B1. Bass is not loud enough in the mix hence the headphones are needed to hear the sound of the bass well.

I've played through the Rumble Combo & many a MAG/ABM head (so not an exact comparison) - the Rumble is miles ahead for me; naturally good tone (of the vintagey variety) with a decent EQ, the Ashdown's have always just sounded like mush to me regardless of how many buttons/sliders are being used.

I haven't used the other two so couldn't comment.

I have an Ampeg PF350 right now which I'm enjoying, but it's not as simple to use or as quick to get a usable sound from as the Rumble 500. I really rate the Ashdown ABM500 and would use one all day long (great EQ) but it's too heavy for my liking. All in my humble opinion, of course. YMMV, etc etc.

If Fender did a Rumble preamp pedal I'd be on it like a Weightwatcher on a Greggs Steak Bake.

Same here. Given how many bassists use provided rigs nowadays to make changeovers quicker it surprises me how many manufacturers don`t have a preamp/DI pedal that sounds like their amps. Think both Fender and Ashdown are missing out on this big-time.

Seems that Ashdown has DI pedal

  3. I am glad you liked it Tim. Thanks for the kind words. Drums are missing in both covers but it is almost impossible to record drums with Zoom H1. Even though I am not a big fan of cajon (and our drummer hates it) it is still better than no drums at all. We played treasure at a gig last week with full band (drums, bass, guitars, keys, saxophones, trumpet) and it was much better. The crowd loved it.

Sounds very good. I like all of them but my favourite is the last one.
Great snare and reggae bass sound. Fat and smooth. My dream tone :)

  4. Hey Guys,

Here are a couple of cover songs from my band. It is a reggae band in Cyprus called The Healers. We mostly play roots reggae and some British Reggae/Pop. We are also working on our songs in the meantime.

We recorded two cover songs which are not reggae originally. It is not a full band as the recordings are amateur and songs are recorded via Zoom H1.

The Mk I TRBs are 34" scale. I have a sixer... but it is very wide.
    [/quote]

True. I forgot about MK 1s. It would be better choice for a small guy like me but I guess they are a bit more expensive than TRB IIs.

My personal recommendation with your budget is to look seriously at Yamaha.

Although I love Fender 4 string basses I've never been impressesd with their 5 strings. Certainly not the ones you'd get for £500. I have a Mexican Fender Jazz 5 as a passive back up, and it's miles behind by Yamaha TRB 5 at a similar 2nd hand price.

    +1

Japanese TRBs are great value for the money. I too was a bit stressed when I was switching to 5 strings but it was very easy to get used to TRB's neck. I played it at a gig with a little practice without any problem. I too have small hands but it wasn't a problem at all. Only problem I got was that it is 35'' scale and I am not a tall guy.

  7. I had compact + super compact and just sold the compact to purchase another super compact. I was thinking of getting 2X12 cabs from barefaced when I bought the SC but then I went to single 12 route just because I wanted to be able to use single 12 for smaller gigs. I am very happy with the SC and 1 is enough for most of the occasions but 2 of them will sound great.

Can some who's in contact with him now find out if they're at London show again in Feb? I'd send another email, but I doubt he needs anyone else clogging up his inbox needlessly :)

  9. Hi everybody,

The previous owner of my bass did very very bad job while installing flushmount straplocks. Screw heads are stripped and I could manage to unscrew only one. So I need help about how to unscrew the other one. There are some coventional methods but they will not work because I don't have an easy access to screw in the straplock.
Any body had a similar problem and how did they manage to unscrew?

I would like to fill the holes up as I much prefer normal straplocks over flushmount. I am thinking of using some sawdust/wood dust and glue to fill them up. Will it be strong enough? Is there any other/better methods?

Thanks in advance for all the suggestions and help.
