+1 Played a great gig on bass on Sunday afternoon, then spent yesterday afternoon creating some kind of dancefloor monster on my Motif XS. It doesn't have to be an either/or situation. Just enjoy yourself - that's what it's about isn't it?

Playing three sets between 4 and 7pm on Sunday at a club in Peacehaven with the Faces cover band. Can't really be doing with all the monarchical nonsense personally, but I figure the best way to celebrate the jubilee is to be given some bits of paper with the queen's face on them when I've finished playing

There's a black MIM P bass on the wall of a pub just round the corner from me which I sometimes play in. And a 50w Marshall guitar combo (also on the wall). The bass looks in perfectly good nick - wouldn't vouch for the combo.

Bought one with an identical body but R/W board off 2x18 a couple of weeks ago (it's one month older than this one). It's a seriously lovely bass - I much prefer the colour to those that are available in the current Tribute range. I'd been after an L2000 for about a year and I'm so glad that I've finally got one. Good luck with the sale, Tom - whoever gets this won't be disappointed.

Anyone up for this? Just got a press release about open auditions (in London and Liverpool) for the London production of Let It Be.

Just stumbled upon this. Great line-up on fantastic form. Interesting transitional point between the 2nd 'classic quintet' and the more aggressive approach this same line-up took a few months later (just before Wayne Shorter left). Simply wonderful.

Personally I'd be more concerned about having to spend a protracted time in US Immigration trying to persuade them that I wasn't planning to play any gigs and that was why I didn't have a work permit...

I haven't used the Wilkinson pickups, although what I've read concerning other people's experience of them would suggest that they're a decent product, certainly at that price.

I've got two pairs of Wizards - 64s and 84s - and I do think they're worth the money (which is still significantly less than other after-market pickups). They're hand wound pickups and, as you'll see from the experiences of others here, the after-sales service is great - if the pickups you ordered aren't giving you what you were after, Andy will take them back and rewind them to suit your specifications (or - like Conan says - build them to the specs you give him when you order).

Hopefully someone will be able to give you a clearer idea of what the Wilkinsons are like, but, like many others here, I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Wizards.

I do accept that appropriate onstage demeanour may vary between genres Having said that, I remember seeing Spiritualized years ago - at the time of Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space - they were back-lit for pretty much all the gig and seemed to playing to each other rather than out to the audience. Loved the material they were playing, but it was one of the dullest gigs I've been to - completely devoid of any atmosphere (a bit like space ).

Absolutely - back in the day, it took me a while to realise that ultimately when you're up there on stage your job is to entertain - to put some energy into what you're doing, throw some shapes, jump around, look like you're having a good time (I generally am), engage with the audience - essentially give the punters something to look at as well as something to dance to.

No issues with mine either, but this is evidently a fairly common problem and there's really no excuse for it. I know I'd have been mightily p***ed off if my bass had turned up with buzzing/humming as an unexpected feature.

I dropped one of their full strat assemblies into an old Squier strat - improved it no end.

You're absolutely right, Skank - I just have an abiding dislike of the Mail and it amuses me to dredge up the political leanings of its proprietor 80 years ago to use as a stick to beat it with now - let's face it, it's a snappy phrase.

If anything I think the paper's influence is more pernicious now than it was then, when - as you rightly say - there were plenty of members of the British establishment who were equally strong proponents of appeasement.
