My experience of chromes is that they become a bit more pliant as the break in - stick with them!

I think something just died inside me. God knows it was pointless enough before it got to the "solo" (those inverted commas really aren't heavy enough). Why didn't the punters just rush the stage and KILL THEM ALL????!!!!

I'd start by pointing out to your guitarists that the master volume knob can also be turned in an anti-clockwise direction

FWIW the nut width and profile of the neck on the Squier CV Jazz make it fantastically slinky. Very good basses for the money, in fact very good basses full stop. But obviously if it's a P you want then a P with a J neck would be the way to go so the Mexican P Deluxe might be worth trying, but bear in mind that it's active without an active/passive switch which may or may not be what you're after. No harm in trying one though :-)

Very glad to hear it. I went to the premiere of the DVD release at the Empire Leicester Square in 2003 and JPJ, Page and Plant were in touching distance when they delivered their introduction. I brought my mate who'd got me into Zeppelin in the first place along with me and he was suitably thrilled.

I got into them in 1975 when Physical Graffiti came out and then sought out the previous albums and became a huge fan. By the the time I saw them at Knebworth in 1979 I was pretty much over all that (oh, fickle teenager) and dug Todd Rundgren's set a lot more than Zep's.

These days, I think that all the albums through to Physical Graffiti (with the possible exclusion of Houses of the Holy) stand up very well and the 2003 DVD release made amends for the shortcomings of The Song Remains The Same.

Funnily enough my wife was selected in the lottery for tickets for the 2007 O2 concert but when she realised that it would cost £250 for the two of us to go (which we could have afforded) decided that it wasn't worth it so put them back in the lottery for some other lucky punters to get. I happened to interview Nile Rodgers the day after she made this decisions and he was i) very amused that she thought that £125 a pop was too steep and ii) very impressed that she didn't think of sticking them on Ebay. Pretty much how I felt too (Claaaang. Can't find a suitable emoticon for shameless name dropping)

I remember reading somewhere that when an interviewer asked him what strings he used, Bernard said something along the lines of 'Whatever strings Music Man put on their basses' - the implication being that he'd never changed them. I assumed this meant that he used very dead rounds. The story may of course be apocryphal.
