Comfy Bass

If it wasn't for the weight I would definately go for a Thumb bass, it literally hugs your body. Seeing as we're practicing for ten hours though I would choose a Fender p-bass lyte. does what it says on the tin
2. Whenever I've de-freted a bass I've filed the frets down, flush with the fingerboard. This leaves you with nice thin silver lines. It looks really nice and you won't be altering the structural integrity of anything. File at 45 degrees to the frets, changing sides frequently so that your cuts oppose each other. Make sure that the file is plaining at least two frets at any given time. This prevents the edges of the file from grabbing and gives you a nice even cut. Start with a relatively rough file and work your way down to low gauge wet and dry paper on a block. Finish with oil and give it some mwahhhhh! You'll have no problems seeing the lines. Because they are silver they reflect stage lights. Here's one I prepared earlier ...
3. Brass is the answer ... or titanium if you particularly want to use a white metal. Titanium is as hard as brass and rings just as true. I would recommend using a bone nut on a fretless, as you don't want your open notes to sound overly bright in comparison to the fingered notes. I'm about to replace the naff plastic nut on my Thumb Bass with an old-style Warwick adjustable brass one. You can pick these up for a tenner or so. NB: if anyone else is thinking about this it's worth noting that a 1.5mm base plate is required to raise the height of the lower-set brass nut. I'm going to manufacture my own. If anyone needs help with this kind of stuff just let me know. I'm a jeweller, I have the technology.
4. I recently bought an old maple neck from a car boot sale. I'm going to refurbish it, I'll also be looking to finish a body soon so I was wondering about finishes. I don't want to go down the nitro-cellulose route. I particularly like the finish on Warwick basses Any suggestions on products and processes, their virtues and failings, generally? Thanks

9.
it's easy to get permission to buy more gear (just have to buy her a new cymbal or something first)
10. I've just added some pictures ... and a price
11. Concentrate on YOUR OWN style of playing, first and foremost. It's inevitable to be influenced by bass players who have impressed you. However, it's better to speak with your own voice as truly as possible. It's YOURS, nobody can do it better than you. That's what pushes things forward. The bass guitar wasn't dragged from the swamps by drones and clones
12. When I go to the guitar shop I play slap-bass as quickly and badly as possible. It doesn't matter which tune I play, just so long as everyone in the shop can hear me It's fashionable, or so it would seem
13. Hola all I bought this bass new in Australia 5 years ago (approx £500). I've since added a hard case, Thomastik flatwounds, and removed the frets (proper job). The wood has a nice contrasting book-cut grain, rich, deep and honey-toned, as is the sound. A nice example of this particular model, it's a good instrument in excellent condition. I'm selling it for £300 + postage. I'm also open to a trade if the right 5 string comes along. Epiphone, El Capitan *Acoustic *4 string *Fretless *Rosewood fingerboard with silver fret lines *Maple top, back, sides, and neck *piezo bridge pickup *Shadow p7 active electronics w/ 5 band eq *34" scale *Thomastik flatwound strings *Hardcase *Sexy (voluptuous!) ps, I used to post a wee bit on the last forum as Calgacus (hello again ). Peace x
