I really liked the Sandberg Califonia 5 (JJ pups) but found it had really terrible neck dive, other than that I was really taken with the instrument. How do you find yours?
The California I used didn't have any noticeable neck dive?

I've noticed that after listening to alot of lakland MM+J pup configs, that it doesn't cut through the mix very well... it's to soft and smooth. Perfect for slow paced blues...etc but not punk, metal and the like?

    What do you guys reckon?

I might re-visit the Sandberg stuff. I really want a nice Jazz Bass 5 string (probably in exchange for my Warwick) - and Ironically it seems as though Fender don't make the best ones!
Check out the Lakland Joe Osbourne and Daryl Jones, both in a similar price range.

  2. I've got a Peavey 2x10 i'm not using at the moment, don't mind putting a little cash with it as well.

Don't live that far from you either, i'm just outside of montgomery in powys mid-wales. I do have a Crate Power Block that I was using with it, but another dude has called dibs on that in a trade for an epi thunderbird. And it would be a step down in power unless you want the perfect practice amp as well?

  3. Anyone heard or played one, I was noodleing around on one today and it was sweeeeeeeeeeet!

I was playing the JM IV, but it was one of the smoothest mofos i've played on! Managed that P thump but with extra sustain and really smooth tone and it can do growl as well but not as well. Wind it right back to the bridge pup, mess about with the eq and it didn't sound far off a Spector!

The bass I played on was dipped in actual silver metal and had a weird yet wonderful finish, not sure if it's cool or metro-sexual yet though... :)

    Anyway here is a pic:

Anyone know much about them, the dude at the shop said they were voted bass of year or something

  4. Spectors, you check out their resale it's teh suck.

Met him in town today and we went into the music shop and they offered him about the same as he paid for the basses second hand (£600, although he would never tell me if he was loosing out lol). Their policy is you have to pay a certain percentage of the final sale (no straight swaps), and their prices are typically allot higher than online.

He is just sick trying to sell them I think, if I was of lower moral fiber I might offer him £200 for his Rebop :)

So would a USA Jazz bass be the best option, in black do you think?

  5. I was wondering what the most popular bass is at the moment?

My friend is having trouble selling a couple of guitars and won't stick them on ebay, so I suggested to him that he should trade them in at the local music store and get a bass that will sell easily.

I recommended him the US made Fenders...

  6. I've got a spare 4 Ohm 200w RMS Peavey 2x10 cab that i'm not using and a 150w RMS Crate amp, would you consider a straight trade?

My bro lives in Newcastle and I could send it up with him next time he vists?

If so I can take pics, the crate amp is brand new pretty much and perfect for carrying around... comes in it's own specially designed carry case  The Peavey had a horn that pissed me off to the extent that I removed it, i've still got it somewhere but believe me... it's better off without it, gives a really thick meaty tone now and doesn't rasp. It is in good condition, i've repaired the protective cloth myself and I did a good job so it's aesthetically in pretty good shape as well.

EDIT:I used this set up for practice until I got an Ashdown combo, it's plenty loud enough and isn't a hassle size wise... I used to actually live in Sunderland and Newcastle, and took them to practice on the metro :)

  7. It's better to be safe than sorry man, i've broken a strap on stage about two years ago and the only reason I could continue was because I had a spare on my back up, i've also had a string break before I was on stage due to some prat tech saying my bass was out of tune and trying to tune it himself...

Of course broken strings, battery packs dieing...etc are always going to happen if you gig regularly, unless your really lucky.

So just buy a cheap back up, like an SX or a Peavey.

  8. Just joined up, been playing bass for a while now.

No band at the moment, just taking a year out from uni and i've decided to either start or join a band while i'm working full time. I play mainly punk and metalcore, but I have played in Black Metal bands in the past.

Just finished selling all my old stuff so I can start fresh...etc So you will see my new rig taking shape first hand soon

Looking either at a 6x10 (SWR, Bergantino or maybe Ampeg?) or an 8x10 (Peavey, Ampeg or Orange if I can find the holy grail).
    Orange AD200
And at a later date something a bit more dirty like a jcm800 or an SVT-CL?

    Guitar wise

    Euro Spector P/J 4 string

Not sure what i'm going to add to that but i've seen another Spector for sale locally... and I would like to try out the SX basses since although i'm not a huge fan of the Fenders, i've heard that in terms of bang for your buck... they are pretty damn good!

Always wanted a ric 4001 as well :) but i've had a 4003 in the past and I didn't get on with it at all even though I loved the sounds it made. But realistically I need a 5 string of some sort so i'll see if I can get myself one of those 5 String Music Man SUB's although they are out of production, I do see them around.
