1. It's a case of "looks better than it plays" from my experience with them, but if you were to have it professionally set up, shielded and some hi spec electronics of your choice to replace the original stuff... i'm sure you would have a very nice bass.

  2. I'll be playing hardcore, punk and funky stuff through it.

I don't use many effects, well you can see what I have in my sig.

It sounds to me like you would be most happy with a 100w Fender Bassman silverface or maybe one of the Epifani amps, what other stuff have you owned amp wise?

  3.
Is a 1001RBII not an option? mine is biblically loud ;D
Perhaps I should have mentioned that I don't want to recover the same ground, I like the GK allot but I want to try something new.

  4. Sounds good, so what do you use now then?
I dunno, probably 6/7/8 months? What do you want to know? I'm not very good at describing amps, I never had a use for the overdrive, so apart from turning it on once or twice when messing around and bored I can't tell you much like how it cuts through etc.

Sounds like a normal SWR, it wasn't modern and clean sounding enough for me in the end (like markbass are), when I started playing SWR were my dream heads, and I guess that's why I picked it up, but at the end of the day it doesn't suit what I do now.

I miss my markbass now, but my vocalist is travelling the world, so I hardly play (hence why I have a dirt cheap superfly).
What sort of stuff were you playing on the SWR?

  5. They sell for about £800-1000 on ebay here, unless they have checkered binding aka really old school 4001 which can go for allot more depending on condition.

It's worth noting that different countries have different market values for products like this, in the US for example, the 4003 tends to go for more second hand than they cost new.... because there is a 1+ year waiting list.

  6. hmmm this is not a good start to this thread, everyone seems to have had problems :)

they seem to be a relatively popular amp considering the price, but then again the sheer number available second hand could also indicate that alot of people are unsatisfied.... they can't all have gremlins... can they?

has anyone got one or knows of someone that hasn't had any problems?

    maybe john paul jones

  7.
Can only speak personally ....

Tone and power were awesome, but had reliability probs from day one.
What sort of problems and did they persist, did you keep the amp?

In the past i've read these get quite hot, but then again so does my GK when I play for extended periods.

  8. long shot... but did you sell the 8x8 because i'll take him off your hands :)

EDIT: sorry for the bump I was just searching for 750x info and I found this!

  9. So what is the general consensus on these, a powerhouse no doubt i'm sure... but how does it fair on reliability and tone...etc?

To give you an idea, I use an Aguilar GS212 and a GK 700RB-II at the moment but I crave more power.

Either a second GS212, GS410 or a 6x10 of some description will be added to my rig as well within the next few months.

    Thanks

  10.
Cheers Stu, yes its 5.3ohms. VERY loud.

I've had a few poms asking if Id sell rather than trade, I would sell but would only be able to sell if both the head and cab have buyers.

So the cab £500 and the head £400 inc Flight case.
So your not interested in the trade+cash?

I already have a couple of people who are interested in my head and another for the cab, so if you are after straight cash I could do that as well.
