1. I need to add something to the above - I do not own a P at all, but do own a USA Jazz 4 string and my Stingray 5 string.

I take both to all gigs and practices, but the Stingray get the nod for a number of reasons:

1..it is a five string, whihc I need to some tunes, and can't be arsed changing basses
2..it plays like a dream, a bit better than the Jazz (although that is no slouch either)
3..being the SR5, it has a 3 position selector. In the centre position it does a reasonable J sound - not the same, but does the job. The Bridge position is classic Stingray 4, whihc is great, and the Neck position is a powerful rock sound. And the 3-band EQ gives a pretty wide variety of tones - enough for me, anyway.
4..the Ray has a tighter bottom end, whihc in the reality of most gigs, I find useful, since boominess can be tamed in the way that is not possible with the Jazz, I feel

The only thing the Ray lacks is the classic passive tones of a P or J, and at home I usually love the sound of the J bass, but in a band my Ray is the one for me, at least.

What do others reckon?

2. John - it is actually quite deep, but yes, it is very portable indeed. It is really pretty fine on its own, and only loses a litte llow end "feel" if you know what I mean. But at the end of theday, it is reall good, fine forrehearsals and PA supported large gigs.

I cannot say enough good things about thelarger cab tho - stilla one hand carry, and a brilliant all-round cab.
Cheers

3. Here is my rig. Modular, with a Littlemark 2, driving a Traveler 102p and a Standard 102HF.

For rehearsals/small gigs, the traveler is the one, and I use both when things get serious. I stand the traveler on its side to get it up close to my ears.

And it all sounds rather lovely, whilst being super light.

I will gladly answer any questions for those who want ot know more about this gear.

Both standard, both great machines.

Thanks for looking

5. and also,if I were inyour shoes, I would now be thinking that I have a bodged together cab, with the resale thus potentially affected. Just another merry thought.

Sorry I am being a bit blunt, but I am sick of poor service and workmanship these days. £800!!! bloody hell, you would want to to plated in gold...or at least or a standard higher than you could build yourself. Very disappointing - I feel for you.

6. I am absolutely amazed at this - your patience Dave, for one thing, and the total shambles that is unfolding.

What is wrong with these folk. It is FAULTY, you should not be paying to get it sorted, shipping or anything like that at all. It ia absolute B**locks, the whole thing stinks.

I would have demanded a full refund ages ago, striaght to Nick Epifani with the news of what the parties he relies upon are doing to his good name. But then I am just impatient and expect things to be right at this sort of money.

Hats off to you mate, but I think the hard line needs to be taken here. It is appalling, dreadful service. So what that it is in Germany, that is not your problem, full stop.

7. interesting. Dont know whagt you guys are listening on, but I have my PC linked to my studio monitors/headphones. Although the bass sounds a bit trebbly, I can not agree that it is badly mixed. The overall sound is very clean and clear, with plently of Mr Kings bass in there. On some of the clips (there are others up there) it is clear enough to pick out the synth patterns (eg Lessons in Love) alongside and distinct from the bass guitar.

It is just a different tone, but there is nowt wrong with the mix imho and on my full range speaker system. :-)
Might get the DVD anyway.

8. bit of a thread derail - which Havens are you doing - I did most of them last year so there is a possible heads up about some of the rooms, assuming you have not been there in the past yourself - pm me if you like.

We would always assume that there was no PA support provided by the venue, and take our own. Quite often the ents folk would have either broken the house system, or have no idea how to use it for a band. So we would either use our own totally, or sometimes back this up by taking stereo outs into their system as reinforcement. A pain really , as tjhey are all a lonh way, and the money is pretty average, and that is being kind...

Fantasy Island (Igoldmells) and Selsey are 2 notable exceptions where they do a full mix for you through their own system, but these are not Haven

9. I find that mine is just great. I used to have a P501 - the new version is the TA501 I think with the tube compressor - and that had the same EQ as the SA450. I ahve to saty I have not missed it at all sine using the LMII. The simplicity is just great. I would like a mute switch, but hey ho.

I will be amazed if you dont find it to be all you need - at the end of the day, there wil be small compromises in all gear, but fir portability and power this is fine for me, and I uaually just use a sinlge 8ohm cab in a loud ish band with 2 keys players etc, and it is never left wanting. ANd the MB bag only has holes on the bottom, so if it is on your back the rain wont get in!

Cheers

Enjoy!

10.
Actually tony and nick use 8 4x12s and three jc120 combos between them so they can fire back!!!!
I f you,d like check out our site and see what uncontrolled chronic GAS can do if left unchecked!!!
www.limeshark.com
which is all very well, and no disrespect to you, but why on earth do you need to use all that gear?

Surely the onstage volume is for too much for the PA to have a clear and meaningful sound, so it seem like carrying loads of gear for basically no reason.

Just askin', no offence meant at all

11. I may have missed something here, but why do you have to pay anything at all to get this sorted? surely all shipping costs should be picked up by the manufacturer on a brand new cab. I would no way pay a bean.

This sucks, I feel for you. Can't help thinking that a Markbass 1*12 cab would have done it for you all along.

12. Another vote for the Stingray or Sterling. I use mine to the exclusion of all others with the band (SR5 - slightly more versatile than the SR4, but similar to the Sterling, with a 3 way switch). I find that it always sits brilliantly, cuts through, grinds, is deep and dubby, honky, funky, whatever you want it to be. And I can't be aresed changing bases - it stays strapped on from start to finish, and does all I want it to do.

I never use my Jazz with the band, but on the other hand love playing it at home.

13.
Does the Digitech allow you to selct how loops end eg fade out, end after the current cycle, etc? A friend of mine uses an RC20XL and it's a nice feature. I still have the original RC20 which is pretty good but my ear/foot co-ordination is sadly lacking!

Cheers,
Alun
not totally sure to be honest. I think so, but I have not used this feature. I use it in my Spanish duo - nylon strung guitar, and I double on bass and bylon guitar. We use it to set up rhythm parts, and sometimes bass parts. All done live, we don't pre-record any loops.

14. Luke - as you know I use Shure - SLX, rackmountable - with the rack stuff included (it is extra on the Sennheiser).

I wanted the ULX, but it is very expensive, and the SLX does just dandy. Huge numbers of frequencies to use, and auto scan and all sorts.

I had a couple of Sennheiser units which were from a faulty batch (dodgy conectors - isolated problemn tho), but what I found when I got the Shure instead was in my opinion an ever so slightly clearer sound.

I cannot tell the difference in a gigging situation, but when solo at home a lead is better.

Tre www.dv247.com - for me it was the best price and LEGENDARY after sales service, the best I have ever had.

15. there is no delay at all with the jamman, you jsut need to get the hang of it.

I have owned this and he RC20XL. There is no question that the audio quality of the Jamman is better, and on the RC20XL there IS a slight delay after recording the first loop (but not with overdubs).

I cant see any areas where the boss is better at all to be honest. They are both built well.

I suppose you need to try them all out - this is why I bought both on ebay and then sold the boss after extensive testing.

I have both of these.

The Standard is bigger, but still a fairly manageable 1 hand carry. It is a superb, superb cab in my opinion. Really punchy, with solid depth to it, and seems to be indestructible - you can really push it. Projects the midrage like a spear through the room, but does lose a little low end at distance. BUT, and ideal cab for monitoring on even large stagesm and will handle large rooms without PA support. And a bargain too - easilt under £500 new.

The Traveler is really light and portable. It has the same characteristics as the larger cab, but without the really low end extension. Cuts through, and can be pushed hard also. If you have PA support, there is no need to take any other cabs to a gig. Good value too. I tend to use this one alone, as I cant be arsed with the bigger one for most occasions. There is nothing like a one-journey load in from the car - 2 bass gigbags in one hand, cab in the other, littlmark and leads/gubbins bag over one shoulder. Job well and truly done.

Hope this helps

Chris

Used together, they sound like a massive 4*10.
