    I found this with my RCF 732.  Boomy on the floor. I surmised that this was due to the fact that as a PA cab it is optimised to be used on a stand, without floor coupling. Obvs this can be eq'd / hpf'd, but I have returned to a head and 12" cab traditional bass amp set up and to be honest I am happier. Not saying FRFR doesn't work, but for me and what I am doing, I prefer the normal amp route.

  2. Was fine on the gig. With another cab it would be enough for most sensible situations.  I was expecting the head to be pretty hot to touch but it was just a little warm and it was running at 75% I’d say.

     

    much like the orange Markbass speakers, the cone excursion was very visible……

  3. Ok so tonight is a massive room, big PA. Often I find that stage rigs can get lost in these situation. However after sound check this is fine as expected. Yes it’s turned up to about 75%, but into a single 8 ohm 12 at less than 200 watts it’s fine. I can hear it. In smaller rooms it will be plenty.

    My only complaints with this little head is I wish it had a speakon connection rather than a jack but its not a biggy but more so, I with it had a mute button. They are awesome little heads though and so loud.

    Note that I always have PA support, and would not expect a single 12" cab to dominate in a large room. The bands I work in have good musicians who play at sensible levels, so I do expect it to cover the stage for everyone, and to easily match a drummer who plays musically. Based on my findings at home, it will be fine.

     

    I will be more curious to see how this particular brand of compact head "feels" in comparison to, say, a Littlemark amp. Of course these are 300w at 8 ohms, but having owned a couple in the past I always found them to run out of steam and heft before you would expect. We shall see.  I don't expect the well of endless power that you get from an ABM 600 or the like. The only Class D that has come close to that was a LittleMArcus 1000 watter - now that was really really powerful.

  6. So I thought I would report my findings here.  I just bought the Warwick iPro - the 280/180 watt version. Went for this over the standard one for the extra power.

     

    Not gigged it yet, but gave it a full volume try yesterday with my new (to me) Ashdown RM112 cab - so 8 ohms.

     

    I have to say it is very nice.  Seems to be plenty of power and weight to the sound, and I am very pleased. Gig this weekend with it. Will report back, but honestly it will be fine.  Very will built, and nice and simple

     

    And the cab also is very nice indeed.

  7. I’ve just posted in another thread how I use a single RCF 732a with a Sansamp Q Strip. It sounds great but I’m going to return to a small bass combo. Lighter, simpler, and made for the job out of the box.

  8. This is my most recent incarnation. The Q Strip is great, although obviously no drive option. In fact this was after sound check. I got bored waiting for 3 hours for the food service to end so we could do the Xmas party thing, so packed the tuner away and just had the Sansamp there using phantom power. Was in the PA too.  The cab is an RCF Art 732a. It’s a bit too big for my liking, but that said it was a city centre gig and I was able to walk it all from the car park. See pic

  9. I am selling my BDDI V1, great condition and working perfectly with zero issues. I am simply not using it, and having a bit of a sort out.

     

    Can post it, probs cost about a fiver I would guess.

  10. My best sound in ages last night was/

     

    Stingray - Korg Pitchblack - Radial JDI 

     

    then Xlr to FOH and the “thru” output into RCF 732 a for a touch of stage sound.

     

    Thought I’d try the JDI instead of BDDI. Worked very well.

  11. This could have gone in the effects forum nut I feel it may actually be related to my choice to not use an amp...so.

     

    Infrequent visitor here these days, mainly earning my corn drumming.

     

    BUT, I have occasional bass dep work.  I am using a Sansamp BDDI with a RFC 732A cab. So, a good cab and a decent preamp.

     

    Problem is that I don't like it!  To elaborate, onstage the sound is too "big" and "boomy". I know of the limitations of the sans amp - especially since it is the one without the mid control. That said, I know how to use it, and I only put it at about 1/3 blend of the sans amp sound. I think the issue is this - the cab is too good.  By this I mean that to get a nice clear punchy stage sound, I have to cut a fair amount of the bass on the sans amp. You know the deal - small stages, boomy etc. However, this of course will also affect the FOH feed, which is not always idea.

     

    I wonder if in fact FRFR is actually a good idea for me.  The cab is quite large, and I do miss my Mini CMD 121p....rock up, set up, DI set to pre EQ, tweak on stage sound independent of the FOH feed, and tweak that on the desk...

     

     

    So, before I go back to a combo (probably mark bass...again!) could anyone recommend a preamp that is clear and warm?  I like the BDDI, but I am finding it to be not the sound I need these days.

  12. Bass - BDDI - RCF Art 732A

     

    BDDI into PA, I only use the RCF for stage sound.  If I was the bassist in my main band (I am the drummer) I would just use in-ears and not the RCF

     

    Although to be honest I might explore other pre amp options soon. The only reason I haven't so far is that I have been gigging more on drums.
