I have no experience of the pickups but just thought I'd jump on the west bromich bandwagon and mention I've played a gig at The Stone Cross. In fact we are booked in to play again next year, if we have a band together that can cover it!
That pub is practically my local, not that I ever go in it though. We try not to play in West Brom at any cost and have been reasonably successful in recent years. -
If you don't think you can do it yourself then the best bet would be to get it down to Trevor at PMT Birmingham. He rewired my Dad's Hohner Precision for £15. Probably take cost more for yours if pots etc needed but give him a ring and see: 0121 359 5056.
Yes Trev is a good bloke! Thought I might try and do one on my own. He is definately plan B though! -
Mr Machines, sorry, I told you I was from West Brom. I just have the P body at the moment. It is a new build. I'm playing at the Village hotel on Saturday in Walsall if you fancy some Black Country fun

Thoughts please. I like the idea they are a British company as well.
I am stupid and would require all the pots and jack. Could some one please advise me if a Fender P wiring kit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130271270541 would supply everything else needed, or whether I shoild be looking for something else. I have never done anything like this before and Im from West Bromwich.
Cheers. -
it should comeout the other end?

no probs mate. as far as i am concerned i've got a great bridge for a great price.
-
Many thanks Jon. That really is invaluable advice. I may take a few picks for some help if needed. I am expecting a Jap P body any day now and this bridge is the first piece of the jigsaw. It's my first bass project so I am very excited and posting a lot of anal questions. It does look like a great bridge though.

Hi Si. Did warmoth do your sanding?

Thanks for the heads up. I really want skinny. Allparts say they can shave a neck to my spec, but then the warranty is lost. Looks like the 62RI is the spec for me, but they dont come with the blocks ...
There is a walnut neck on ebay at the moment.
Any thoughts ...
cheers. -
These necks look stunning.
I am interested in a J neck. All the necks at warmoth are listed as standard thin. Could anyone advise as to whether these necks are just standard jazz C. I really want a G Lee or Marcus type or a 62RI. I think all of these necks are the 7.25 rad. I just wondered how a warmoth compares to the skinny stuff. I have looked at a lot of spec, but to be honest I am non the wiser. Wondered if anyone had any experience of them.

would this fit on a fender p body without much messing about? Is it like the badass? no strings through the body job?
-
some lovely parts there ...

Great advice. I like the lightweight ideas.

I have this hunch / vision / gas / stupidity !!! to fit a skinny J neck to a P body. I have never done anything like this before. I am in no rush but would like to have a go perhaps after Xmas? These things may be cheaper and more readily available? I do find some of the warmouth necks very very sexy. I suppose a start could be to mod my standard jazz with one of these necks. It could always be used later on in another project?
If anyone on the off cnance has a Geddy, Marcus, or '74 Reissue neck they want to get rid of let me know. I imagine I would use my original Fender tuners rather than leave an unused neck "loaded" -
Very usefull reply Simon, cheers. How did you find your mighty mite? I see allparts and warmouth about too. The warmouth stuff just looked in another league, although I have no experience of any. Are they all US imports? Would my standard Fender tuners fit all three.
cheers. -
Hello all, I have some knowledge and have done some research but still unsure about a few things. In a nutshell I love the skinny '70's fender necks (as on my Marcus sig). I have a '97 standard jazz and have thought about picking up a similar neck for her. There look to be some crackers on warmouth, although pricey.
Obviously I know there are 3 bolts and 4 bolts. I am a bit confused about the radius of the neck. My marcus is 7 1/4" and standard 10". I have no clue how these measurements are made but obviously my marcus is skinnier. Would the Marcus be the same as a Geddy or '75 reissue neck?
Can these Jazz necks be bolted onto precision bodies without any major hassle???? Would my standard tuners fit any lic Fender necks.
cheers.

I heard bits of various VH solo's (I think from memory) People can slate him but I thought it was incredible and really enjoyed it. I'd say he is a great classical guitar player too.
-
Mine is simply the best bass I have ever played. Don't sell it!

Thanks for the input. I really need to get off my backside and try a few different cabs is probably a short answer. I do like the idea of adding another ashdown 2x10 to my existing 4x10 and having the flexibility of 2 rigs.
So the next question is. Will 6x10 ashdown cut the mustard in comparison with more pricey 4x10's. For example would the epifani/ zoot/ Dr Bass et al 4x10 really blow away 6x10 ashdown?
I am a believer in you get what you pay for most of the time. Is this true with higher end 4x10, or would the difference with an ashdown 6x10 negligible???
cheers. -
Had a lot of fun out of my Boss ME50 and it is a great workhorse, 100+ gigs and counting. Also makes a great guitar pedal. I've added a crybaby and a DHA fuzz and incorporated it into a board.

Don't have a P neck. Basically I bought a body only and Im adding from there. That why I having been asking anal questions for the last week or so.
