GCDGBE capo on 3rd fret anybody? This allows to play bar chords when needed and keeps the D shape in "action". I did look closely at this a few years ago as it was a bit of a holy grail for me being a big Thompson fan. I think I used the live in Austin dvd for reference as well, I could stand to be corrected though as the man in the oprthopedic shoes said.

You could probably knock it out in G C D Em or something like. If it sounds good go for it. What a great song to cover as a band. When I played in a band with paul h we did a punk version of Beeswing by Thompson. It used to go down very well. Good luck.

I used to play this in my serious guitar days. I seem to remember the E is dropped to C and A is dropped to G. I think Thompson cappos on the third. I have seen him live 20+ times. If I practiced for a month I might be able to play it again.

On a very enjoyable encounter with Norman Watt - Roy a few years back he told me that a Jazz signature for him was being considered, along with chunk missing where his thumb sits. To be honest in the long beer fuelled conversation I and a few others had with him about 4 minutes was spent talking about his bass gear. He was far to funny, interesting and charming to talk about thyat drivel.

A classic indeed. Unusual for Geddy to use his now trademark Jazz at the time. He was torn between it and his Ricky at the time. The bass sounds fantastic on the whole album. Infact it's one of the best produced sounding albums ever I think.

Scary!!! That is the bass line I just can't stop playing at the moment. That's the great thing about Rush. I forgot the line because it has been years since I last played it so I had to learn it again.

Myself and the wonderful and clinically depressed paul h who also frequents this place did provide the soundtrack to a very downmarket skiing video many years ago. To be honest I had Rush attack in the last couple of weeks, where I seem to go through their whole catalogue. I have been having these attacks since 1979.

Yeah, a bit of Rush will do you the world of good. This week I have mainly been playing along to Moving Pictures.

Get a nice Jazz. I bet a Geddy would be a great starter.

I don't know if I know exactly what country music is. I have and do enjoy people like Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Johnny Cash. One of the last albums I purchased was the best of George Jones. Some of the greats have done some superb country stuff. Have a listen to Gram Parsons and The Byrds "sweetheart of the rodeo. I not defending all the bullshit that is obviously out there though.

How do you play bass and sing .. and set God knows what midi stuff off and bass pedals with your feet?

We did a private at Bloxwich Memorial Hall. This is one of those clubs stuck in a time warp since about 1973. All those old PA rigs, the obligatory hammond organ gathering dust, the tombola barrell. I really love these places, they are microcosms of social history and I always spent half an hour just exploring backstage. A real gem of a place and a room and stage to die for. I wondered who had been on the bill years ago. And .... nice people. We were well fed, well paid and had a very pleasant evening all round.

Used to do stuff with Gavin at Magic Garden in Wolverhampton. Gavin has been in the game 20+ years at least. He is excellent and a really great bloke. He is a pretty accomplished musician, great backing singer and has a real ear for production.

Highly recommended.

PS. I Googled him and I see he has a myspace site but I cany open it at work. You should get a good idea from there.

Have to agree with a few already. Alex Lifeson a major hero for me from 1979 to 2009 and counting. (Infact with a snow day I strapped on my guitar to play along to limelight yesterday ... it's been a long time)

I still like the look of the Nordy stuff at bass direct. Isn't it strange every time you gat a new wife she ends up looking like the old one! I have been a b*****d to my original wife. I abandoned her for months to be in the arms of a marcus jazz sig. We have recently been happily reunited after |I treated her to a skinny 62RI Jap neck. I must confess however that my hands were all over the Marcus sig the other night.

Im not as bad as a lot of you lot though with all the wife swapping that goes on here. guffaw!!! guffaw!!!

When I upgraded to a markbass head I kept my Ashdown as a spare. A luxury I haven't been able to afford in the past. I am always safe in the knowledge that I have a cracking back up if needed.

+ ten million. I had to sit through them at the NIA once. ( I only went to catch the Barenaked Ladies supporting ) Twatish dufflecoat wearing dirgefest. Heaton was pissed which added a tang of interest. Happy Days.

As a footnote, I considered in the past adding another 2x10 ashdown. I would always have the option of a smaller rig in small pubs and a lot more capacity in bigger venues.
